You guys in the UK are a bit slow. It's been Thursday for over 18hrs down here in Australia. I guess I should get used to your timezone soon though, seeing as though I'll be over in a few years!

On topic though, I am interested in how PocketPC's handle voice tagging on contacts. My Nokia N73 automatically tags them based off the name I give them. Do PocketPC's do something similar, or do I have to record a voice tag in my own voice before I can call someone using it?

just had a look again on the swedish Qtek site and the TyTN II has been pulled from it now, its nowhere to be found.

This always depends on the software you are using - if it is MS Voice Command 1.6, there is no need to tag people - it is automatic as is other commands (such as "What is my next appointment?") - you can find out more here - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/voi...d/features.mspx

You have choices. Depending on which app you use, voice dialing varies. HTC has Cyberion Voicedialer, a simple voice tagger that you record per contact, and Cyberion Voice Commander which is a voice recognition prog that works so-so I've read. Microsoft makes Voice Commander v1.6 which is a very good speaker independant voice recognition prog. It has had some issues with the TyTn (Kaiser predecessor) but hopefully it will work better with Kaiser.

Even though they may be 'a bit slow', it means they technically get the new 'baby' before us. :P

This is in no way meant to upset anyone. Sorry if it does. All in good fun.

Sorry about being off topic.

Joe

PS Thanks Paul and all who are contributing. :)

hello paul,

Just wondering if p4550 runs out of battery for a few days.. does it automatically do a hard reset?

I ask this as most of the ppc phone i have handled does this apart from the ipaq hw6915 that i have now.. it doesnt hard reset even if you have run out of battery for a long period of time.. it sorts of save the settings and installed program and you dont need to reinstall them again if the device hard reset on its own.

No, Pocket PCs don't do that any more... that was eradicated with the advent of persistent storage in WM5.

The Wm5 devices aren't doing this even my Axim x50v won't do this using WM5, because of the ROM-usage.

This thursday seems not to be as good as we thought (hoped). No new news til now. :)

Paul, is it possible for you to test the Navigon Mobile Navigator 6? I would like to know how long this program needs for the start.

Hi, this is my first post here, although I am not at all a newbie on PDA phones. I have had many different devices, including Magician, Tytn, and many iterations of Treos, and Symbian devices.

I have a question for Paul and the other WM6 experts.

What has always bothered me of Windows Mobile 5 (and earlier) in comparison to Symbian phones is the implementation of WiFi. What I mean is that in Symbian you can create various access points, and they can be GPRS/3G or WiFi with no difference in usage. Hence, an email program or any other program can be configured to use a WiFi access point, or a 3G access point, all automatically. And in many cases, apps can try WiFi first and then go with 3G if that fails.

With WM on the other hand, it always comes to having to switch WiFi on "MANUALLY", and the really irritating thing is that WiFi always switches itself off when the device goes in standby. By doing so, email checks will automatically use 3G (as WiFi won't be ready), and VoIP use is impossible, as WiFi is disconnected when the phone goes in standby, hence it cannot receive calls.

On Nokia smartphones, on the other hand, VoIP can be left always on (using WiFi). And the interesting thing is that a Nokia phone can have VoIP active on WiFi for the whole day, and still be very good on battery levels at the end of the day. While with WM devices, WiFi wil completely drain the battery after an hour or two.

:)

Now the question is: has all this changed with WM6? Meaning, can WiFi work in standby, and can Outlook Mobile perform email checks using WiFi (waking up from standby)? And can the device automatically try your WiFi access point, and then fall back to 3G if that is missing?

Thanks! :P

Hi Paul,

This is also my first post here... and also waiting with tension when the tytn II is released in Holland...

Also hoped that the release was today… <_<

But anyhow thanks for making this review and threat…

My only question: as described above, do you have an answer about the Wifi?

WiFi is still disconnected when device is in standby.

Isn't it strange that http://gcf.gsm.org where we found that filing about tytn ii is down now? Paul, do you still think that something will happen today?

That's the impression I got, but, well, we'll see! :)

www.smartmobile.se has also taken away all links to HTC P4550. Something is happening?

This is my first post in Modaco... i landed at Modaco when searching for the Kaiser on Google... First of all.... Kudos to the amazing work by Paul and Team on such a great thread. I have been following this religiously for any and all tidbits on the p4550/kaiser/tytn II. Thanks for your efforts.

I have a question... one of the previous posts provided a link to t-mobile.de where it was mentioned that Kaiser did not feature Office Mobile or Outlook Mobile. Does that mean, we would be able to view the docs, edit them.. but do not have the full fledged Office Mobile suite?
