Guest Webreaper Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Still awaiting the deets... Well, I suppose you didn't say which Thursday.... :) :P
Guest Yuri Wuensch Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Paul, any chance of your installing the Resco recorder on the Kaiser to see if it can double as a digital recorder through the propietary mic line in. This is my stumbling block towards taking the plunge.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I installed Resco Recorder and tried recording with the inbuilt mic which was OK, what do you mean the proprietary mic line in? All I have is a regular headset... P

This is my stumbling block towards taking the plunge. Might be a bit OT, but: Oh, yeah... Does a program exsist which can record for unlimited time, but just memory... And it would be great if it could do it through a Bluetooth headset... I think I'm going to need it when my fancy new phone is coming... some day... gregersdk
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I think Resco Recorder is only limited by storage space? P
Guest mcq3000 Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I think Resco Recorder is only limited by storage space? P does resco record phone calls with both sides of the conversation or it is like all other pocketpc phones that you need to set to speakerphone so the mic can pick it up? also how thick is the phone compared to trinity. Dimensions seem to indicate the kaiser is actually thinner but in the picture on the first page it doesnt look that way. Are the dimensions on like pdadb.net wrong then? and have you tried any cpu intensive apps like morphgear or pocketgba or any of the cpu intensive emulators?
Guest gregersdk Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I think Resco Recorder is only limited by storage space? P Is it free? And can record from a wireless headset? Or is possible to buy an actual table placed microphone driven by batteries and sending over Bluetooth?
Guest Yuri Wuensch Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 posted to another/few forums: Hello. I am new to the forum, so I hope this particular topic hasn't already been covered before. I did some looking and couldn't find anything. I am looking to jump into an HTC smart phone (or a PDA phone of some kind), but the one feature I would most like to see addressed is whether the phone can also double as a digital recorder. I know there's a voice record microphone built directly into the phone itself, but I'm after something more along the lines of an external jack. A bit of background: I'm a writer and often find myself recording either a) in person interviews or :) telephone interviews. I am currently using a Sony MD to record both by way of a microphone that plugs in directly to the MD or a jack system that allows me to plug into a normal land-line phone. It usually works fine, but my MD is getting to be of age and is, as such, increasingly less reliable. I don't want to record phone conversations that I'm having on my HTC itself (though that would also be beneficial), but rather as an option to simply plug into it (via a straight microphone or USB jack) and record. Is this possible? That's the question. I've been doing a lot of research and haven't found anything conclusive and would appreciate some feedback to that end. And if not, why not? Between a smart phone's capacity to write word documents, take pictures and, hopefully, record (from phone, microphone, etc.) this would be the tool many journalists would undoubtedly want to have. I gather there is a range of third-party software and shareware that can be used for recording, but is there a mic line in - that's the question. Please hit me back. If this is possible, the Kaiser has my name all over it.

Guest ipgenie Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Hi All. New to posting here but not new to the forum. I've quite enjoyed reading along on this thread and (like the rest of you) I am also looking forward to getting my hands on a Kaiser of my own. I thought I'd spend a few minutes with google and see if I can help out on the recording question. Expansis sells an adaptor that might work for what you are trying to do: http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?partner=modaco&i=151762&asource=TYTN It works with the TyTN and I would expect it will work with the Kaiser. I have no idea how good the built in mic is. If your a bit more adventurous (like me) you may be able to start with this: http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/index....ne_adapter_hack Either use only a mic jack, or connect seperate jacks for the mic and earphones. This way you can get exactly what you are asking for. The writer used to offer a modding service and could possibly be persuaded to make you a custom dongle if you're not able/willing to build your own. I don't know him or anything about him, so you'd have to ask him. posted to another/few forums: Hello. I am new to the forum, so I hope this particular topic hasn't already been covered before. Guest Yuri Wuensch Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I just know that if you go onto pdadb.net and do a smart phone comparison, none of them (to my knowledge) show a dedicated mic line in. And there's nothing specific about running a mic jack set up from a landline phone to, say, the HTC just to double as a digital recorder using something like Resco as a program. I know the Kaiser will record, but I'm a little foggy about how it records - from the built-in mic on the body or would it also work through the jack. I've been told i'd need to solder my own mic line together as nobody makes anything quite for this function - which seems silly to me (it seems natural).
Guest juiceppc Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Hey Paul great thread. I have a question I notice your P4550 tweak pack has a "battery backlight booster". Does the Kaiser have the low lit backlight(even when on max) like the Tytn or is it nice and bright like the Wizard and Herald? Also does it delay when turning on like the Tytn sometimes does. Like a 1 or 2 second delay when coming out of sleep mode. Thanks!
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Nah, it just changes the default level of the backlight when on battery. I like it brighter, and it does go nice and bright. No delay on turn on. P
Guest robertlewisca Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to this based on pictures and information I've found, so here goes... It looks as though there is not a standard 1/8" headphone plug on this? I think I read something about an adapter that's out there to adapt the USB interface to the standard headphone jack, but then my question would be whether or not you can connect headphones and a charger at the same time? Anyone know? Thanks for the help.

Not sure if you're in the UK, I know Paul said he was ordering a few extra, you might be lucky! Gordon
Guest FC_ Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Expansys also has these: http://www.expansys.nl/p.aspx?i=145071
Guest robertlewisca Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 That's perfect! Thanks! I'm here in the US, so I just ordered mine in anticipation of the AT&T release of this thing.
Guest xricex Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 would the gps mount for the tytn be the same for the kaiser? or is the power of the charger differnet?
Guest juiceppc Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 (edited) This looks much better for pocketability. http://cgi.ebay.com/Audio-Adapter-HTC-P330...1QQcmdZViewItem Back to Kaiser. Thanks for the info Paul. You are seriously a gentleman and a scholar. I thought I read you have a kid. I have a 1.5 yr old. Man how the hell do you do it? Is there a keyboard locking mechanism? I already know the answer to that. Duct tape. Seriously whats the hold up on a nice keyboard locking mechanism? Anyway, there are so many sweet devices out(Shift/Kaiser/Advantage/Touch/Cavalier) it ain't helping my addict..., I mean my hobby. :) Edited August 15, 2007 by juiceppc
Guest clarkster Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 Hey Paul, With the new ROM's now out, can we can get some sort of an update on the software side of things. Thanks
Guest Chrome Blade Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 (edited) Btw Paul, What happened to the deal you where working on with Expansys? It would be sweet if we could get a discount off the phone if we get so many people to sign up. Like a group buy where the more people that sign up the more they take off the phone or the more accessories you get with the phone. I'm sure we could get 30 people to sign up for the group buy. If it doesn't happen with expansys I'm sure we can find someone else that willing to do it. I'm sure most places will give a discount if you buy in large quantities. So I'll start a new topic to keep track of people who want to be on the list. This should make it easier for a deal to happen. Guest clarkster Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 Probably Monday :) P Hi Paul, I know you're busy chasing the Kaiser news, but just wondering if we could get that G900 review soon or a comparison between the 2 devices (or both). Thanks
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 Back to Kaiser. Thanks for the info Paul. You are seriously a gentleman and a scholar. I thought I read you have a kid. I have a 1.5 yr old. Man how the hell do you do it? Well, I do MoDaCo / WinMo / Mobility related stuff at home as my day job, and the other half is a stay at home mum. My little one (Lucie) is 3 so it's fun :) Is there a keyboard locking mechanism? I already know the answer to that. Duct tape. Seriously whats the hold up on a nice keyboard locking mechanism? The lack of demand / need? I honestly haven't ever felt like I need that functionality. P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 I'm currently playing with the G900 (which I don't actually like much) prior to doing a comparison :) P Hi Paul, I know you're busy chasing the Kaiser news, but just wondering if we could get that G900 review soon or a comparison between the 2 devices (or both).
