... Specs mention TouchFLO interface on TYTN II, doesn't that mean that the touchscreen system will be as on the Touch, where the touch sensor exceed the screen's limits, and the screen is not sunk in the device?

And BTW, first time posting here, so... A big hello to everyone...

I wonder why the specs/build sheet doesn't mention HSUPA? Anyone have a clue?

if tytn II will include the touchflo 3d feature then i think that explains the delayed (compared to what?) release of the device.

But if the device in a final state so ready to manufacture and will be out in the first week of Sept. then HTC should announce it on the next week. But if not and the device will be out (and will do an announcement) on the first week of Sept. then this will be also a good marketing course.

I think we can expect a mid-sept release but an official announcement between 5th-15th (i'm expecting on 10th Sept according to FCC) from HTC.

If there would be a reaction about the final rom then it'd be easier to speculate. There is a working device since june (and we know about the device since mid-spring) and i don't think that they're rewriting the whole OS so i don't understand why they are testing so much. Maybe there will be many special features that non of other PDAs have? Or what? Okay the chipset not so regular and this can explain the release dates.

But i think that's funny that we know most (almost all) of the information about the device since it isn't announced yet officially. Okay we don't know many of the bugs, i think this device isn't flawless. Okay no final release and then why flame people. And this is also a very good, a cheap PRing ;)

BTW i will check back twice a day here maybe we can expect a release on the next two weeks.

Can we really say that there is a delay? I mean, we never got an official release date, so as far as HTC knows, they are on schedule. And since nobody from the competition seems to be catching up, I can't see a reason for HTC to speed up the process and leave TYTN I in stock... (Actually I see several reasons, but not from HTC’s standpoint).

As has been noted dozens of times, the TouchFLO implementation in the Kaiser is the modified Today screen and the slide-scrolling only. It will not include the 3D cube thing with the extra part below.

Not sure how many times I have to post that I do NOT expect it to have the HTC Touch hardened screen, just the 'finger scrolling' aspects of the TouchFlo UI for sure, maybe the cube if they drop it in a late build, but all with a regular screen technology.

RE: cheap PR, let's hope HTC remember to invite me to the launch this time (unlike the Touch where I had to 'remind them'), lol!

I've just seen that you can order the Kaiser now on amazon.de

Shipment will be within the next 4-6 weeks. Says Amazon ;)

I've ordered one because i can wait a little bit longer when i can buy the kaiser on a trusted shop like amazon.

Hi Paul,

Would it be possible to see a couple of pics of the web browser in use on the Kaiser please?

Cheers,

Tom

Paul,

Once again, thank you very, very much for this EXCELENT review and thread.

In this address of the msmobiles.com (http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6616.html) there is a review of TouchFLO where it is possible to see the difference with and without TouchFLO technology.

The guy say that without a REAL TouchFLO screen (hardware) is not possible to scroll in a web page because finger tend to select text.

The new screen technology distinguish between finger and stylus.

Can you test if you can do this only with the TouchFLO UI (software) of the Kaiser (sorry TyTN II ;) ) ?

I think you're misunderstanding what that article says. It says HTC's TouchFLO reads the difference, nowhere does it mention that the hardware is an integral part of the system. It's just a software thing that reads whether the pressure area is large or small and reacts accordingly. The only reason the glass is needed on the HTC Touch is they wanted to have the part underneath the main screen so you could "fling" it up, and to make it appear more durable when you touch it (ie to copy the iPhone ;) ).

Maybe because so many people are TOOO ******* LAZY to RTFA (or thread) from end-to-end, maybe the very first post of this thread can have a summary section answering the FAQs. It's not really going to stop the questions, but at least there's something to point to besides the entire thread. That, or a page on Wikibooks.

Well, read that review on TouchFLO too... It was the same day that I got to have the Kaiser (or TyTN II) in my hands, so that were of cause one of the things I had to check out...

I can say, that the screen was an ordinary touchscreen (softy) and the thing about scrolling with finger worked (almost) perfect. I think 9 of 10 times I got to work, and the scrolling fades out (slows down) well, too... When touching with your nail, you can still mark text as usual...

I can use my finger or stylus to scroll in Opera, all on an MDA PRO which has no special hardware or software to detect which I'm using.

But you talking about using "TouchFLO way" or using scroll bars?

On-screen scrolling by finger predates iPhone and TouchFLO. Besides Opera, I remember Avantgo also. Sony's scrolling by jog-wheel is very refined also.

Are there any problems with using a screen protector on the Kaiser screen with regard to how well the touch screen works?

Nothing particularly outstanding, but my ventures this weekend tell me this:

T-Mobile Camden think the release date will be announced in the next week or two (so a week or two after that for the phone itself?...)

T-Mobile High Wycombe claim to have the display kit, dummy phone etc. in store, but they won't put it out until a date's confirmed. Again they thought they would know in a week or two.

Does HTC read any of these Forums they should know to release the darn thing already... Some people need this device for work like me.... Come on sop messing with ours minds.... ;)

If you've been reading HoFo, you've probably already seen this for the USA guys:

E-Gadget Depot: $795.00 USD + 2 accessories (screen protector, car charger) 2007/9/17.

MobilePlanet (2007.09.14) seems to have stepped up and dropped their TyTn II price >$150USD to match Elite Electronix's (2007.09.06) price $799.95USD although MB still charges tax for some US states. This seems to be the final price point for most of the retailers now.

Negri Electronics (2007.09.12) $829.50USD is the highest web price at this point for either a Kaiser or 8925. Ironically, their 2007.06 price was $666.50.

Also, MB seems to be the only site whose pre-order price varies every few weeks, and their order confirmation/tracking does not list a final price in writing nor actual ship date so good luck.

The "TouchFlo" way, as NuShrike already stated grabbing information on screen an moving it about with you finger arrived before touchflo (or indeed the iPhone). All that "TouchFlo" has changed is bringing support to all(?) applications, not just those with the feature built in. Now that the conversation has drifted this way, how does the touchflo interface work with applications like Opera installed that already do similar things, do they interfere with each other?

2 new articles on the german Expansys Website:

HTC TyTN II + 1GB microSD Card: 709,95 Euro and shipment within the next 2 days

HTC TyTN II Value Pack: 724,95 Euro and shipment within the next 2 days

Strange: It seems to be sheeper with the 1 GB microSD Card.
