Guest Sideburnt
Please don't take this personally, because it is isn't intended to be... This post typifies the problem with Orange. Here we have a someone who is clearly an Orange employee, he is in the 5-10% or so of orange employees who actually know what a pocket pc is (the vast majority clearly dont have a clue about these devices), he claims to have an orange branded kaiser so is clearly involved in some way with its testing ect... YET he clearly doesnt have a bloody clue what the corporate plan is with this phone. Where is the direction with Orange?. A senior executive from O makes an official press release about one of the most important phone releases this year (probably second only to the iphone), yet someone clearly involved with this device on the ground is still talking about whether it is released !?!! Again, not a personal flame, but just typifies the misinformation and confusion at orange... which presumably stems from the top. Orange - sort out your affairs. summed it up nicely, its not that the release day is delayed for me, its all about the confusion surrounding a basic piece of information, is it going to be released, and when. Nothing sketchy, nothing assumed, nothing made during a press statement which doesn't stand true, just simple facts, and not speculation. Mobiles are Orange's business, they should be more up to scratch than we are right?, if not I question the companies general enthusiasm and research within the field, they didn't win the iPhone contract, no big deal, they've released a great little touchFlo phone, also commendable, but the iPhone beater is still shrouded in mystery. Not a great way forward to inspire confidence and forward thinking, I dont care that some senior executive got his feathers ruffled up at the prospect of releasing a damn fine device but to not back it up with corrections and updates is unprofessional. Do they really think that most people dont follow any kind of news on the internet, you just arn't going to persuade Johnny Councilflat and his wife to buy a Tytn II, its surplus to needs. But the large volume of high end, business and specialist sectors PPC users are going to be 99% of the time looking for news on the Internet, thats just human nature, and all we find are conflicting reports and a customer helpline that doesnt recognise its arse end from its elbow, thats going to turn these people off from Orange right there. And Im one of them. sorry for not being one of the cattle Orange seem to cater to, Im looking for a provider with a little vision and clarity. ...im on my man-period okay... Guest rickyburke
Which is why I've left Orange, they don't know what their consumer base is. They announce a 3G-HSDPA Pocket PC and refuse to provide a data plan to utilise the network connectivity. £8 for 30MB, with streaming rates of 1Mbit/s, not hard to do the math on that. Amateurs! Guest Confucious
I'd love to switch to T-Mobile but Im just not sure if they're any good, ~I've been with Orange for an age and they've been sound as a pound with me, but thier list of recent PPC's are pissy. Why spend money on a sub range when there's new releases that customers would snatch up and make them a fortune. Rant over, Im going to try and speak to the retention team again. but only once more. Not sure if T are any good? If you have reception in your area (which is most of the country but not quite as good as O) then they knock spots off O. Their CS is excellent, their Flext price plans suit me and their data prices allow you to use your PPC properly. No problems with T and would thoroughly recomend them! ;)
Guest rickyburke
I've been wanting to hear that for a while, I don't really know anyone who uses T-Mobile for 3g/HSDPA so couldn't really ask. But I've used the Streetcheck, and emailed them to give me confirmation that HSDPA is available in my area, so as long as this is the case, I'll be very satisfied! Guest zippy172
Ooh, just had a play with that streetcheck, my area seems pretty well covered for 2&3G ;) More ammo to hit O with on the 1st Oct...

Jason, I also looked at the coverage maps for T verus O and frankly didnt believe the 3G coverage could be so much better by T than O where I live. I therefore ordered a free Sim card from T (http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-phones/sim-card/pay-as-you-go/) and unlocked my m3100 Hermes - the 3g coverage is much better with T, where I live. I dont get a 3G signal with O.
Guest zippy172
Cool, thanks for the link Tony, I've just ordered myself some T sims, see what the craic is for real around here ;)
Guest rand
I've just spoken to Orange Business Retentions. Without prompting (I was asking what deal they could offer to stay with Orange) they told me a new model was to be announced on October 1st. - the HTC Kaiser. They said it would be branded HTC (not Orange SPV) but wouldn't be called Kaiser. They also said the business centre shops have more information. Sounds hopefull. The deal they were offering makes it difficult for me to change suppliers. Only problem is with data. The best data offering was 80mb per month (shared between the 4 phones in our group) for £5. I'd really prefer something like Web'n'Walk but shared between our phones. ChrisW72 - do you know how your rep is going to match WnW ? Lol, Orange really are still rubish... I was going to look at moving back to them in the new year.. but i think i will stay with T-mobile. I have been with orange so long my account no was 7750, i was one of the first to sign up way back when analogue phones were the rage and they had the first digital nokia ;) but when i went to leave them they really could not care less. They charged me extra for leaving outside the new 12 month contract and then refunded me a check for twice more than i paid 30 days after. I have been with T-mobile for just over 12 months and cannot sing their praises any loudly as they have always been great and now i have three contracts with them, i would dump Orange and go T-mobile as i never care what data i use... i have the data for tomtom running in the background all them time to keep me aware of traffic issues. Guest rickyburke
Do you have to top up regularly with the T-Mobile Sim? I'd like one to check coverage in my area, but not if they are going to cancel it if i dont ever top it up.
Guest zippy172
Good question, the link above, and the link you click on the page to register for the free sim is remarkably lacking in the terms and conditions department... I'm sure however the sim will come with all the blurb necessary in the next couple of days ;)
Guest rickyburke
Yeah I've beent trying to find out, and all I can find out is that you have to activate the Sim with £5 of credit.
Guest inspectorgadjet
Has anyone else noticed that Power Up Mobile have changed their release date for the Vario III to OCTOBER 30th?
Guest zippy172
If you're still an Orange customer, waiting patiently for them to release this god damned sought after phone, perhaps you might want to join others jumping ship to T-Mobile (if you're able to)... Here's where all the action is taking place: http://www.modaco.com/Mobile-28th-t259710.html Enjoy ;)
Guest oliie
I called Orange to get my PAC number and there was no knowledge of a Kaiser (M3100 replacement). So I joined T-mobile an hour later and will have the Kaiser (Vario 3) tomorrow morning. And all this time Orange still won't know what on earth that phone is or if they are getting it. Poor show! Guest ct12
Cust Serv still saying not in review this morning. I'm hoping the 'Oct 1st' may yeild something useful. Moving our small firms account of 5 phones and 3 data cards just seems too painful to contemplate.
Guest Sideburnt
Im still waiting, although im beginning to wonder why, Im hoping that October 1st-15th might bring some good news, but somehow I think Orange will still be ignorantly poking around in the dirty hole with a spoon, and expecting to get butter. Once again with feeling....no...not the HTC touch, no, no I dont want to try a Samsung, yes I need a PPC....a PPC is like a handheld PC/Mobile....yes they're very useful....yes its called the Kaiser or Tytn II... your Senior Executive released a press statement...you havent?....I see...I think im going to throw up. Guest GadgetBoyNick
I thought this was significant enough news to warrant me registering and posting. A rare thing for me. I just popped in to my local Orange Shop in Hemel Hempstead, in hope rather than expectation. I asked the assistant if she knew when the HTC replacement for the SPV M3100 would be coming out. She looked puzzled for a second and then said "hold on a second", turned around a pulled something out of a box, and then said "Do you mean this?" In her hand was a dummy phone, with an HTC logo on it. She hand it to me. I slid back the screen and then tilted it. I turned it over and on the back was a GPS bump, and a 3MP label under the camera. She told me that she had just got it in today, but didn't have a launch day yet, but if she had been sent a dummy it should be in the next few weeks, possibly as early as Monday. She seemed pretty knowledgeable about it. She knew it had GPS and business card scanning software. However the tilting screen was a revelation when I showed it to her. She didn't know what Orange would be calling it. It had no SPV branding on it. The box it came in said "HTC Kaiser Dummy". So there you go.....hope this is of interest. Guest Helix
Well what did it look like? Was it similar to the unbranded HTC one or was it grey fronted and looked more like the T-Mobile release?
Guest GadgetBoyNick
Well what did it look like? Was it similar to the unbranded HTC one or was it grey fronted and looked more like the T-Mobile release? Hmmm.... Good question....this is slightly from memory so apologies if it is not spot on. I would say it was more like the unbranded one. It was definitely black, and had an HTC logo top right. If memory serves it had an orange logo on too. Guest Chrissssssss
Also the M3100 is no longer available from Orange's website so I assume they are preparing the release of the Kaiser. If only Orange would introduce some better data packages I wouldn't be changing over to T-Mobile in a month.
Guest Sten2005
If only Orange would introduce some better data packages I wouldn't be changing over to T-Mobile in a month. I wish I could understand Oranges' data packages. Orange World Access Max (unlimited, 1gb fair usage) £75.00 Flexible Data 45 Plan (1000mb) £43.43 But to share data between users the price jumps: Flexible Data 90 Plan (1000mb) £86.85 +£12 per sharer None seems as attractive as T-mobile Edited September 29, 2007 by Sten2005

Orange World Access Max (unlimited, 1gb fair usage) £75.00 not sure if i am reading this right. 10 TIMES THE PRICE OF T-MOBILE!? how can they believe this is a fair price? Guest chilledatthebottom
Fair to say, Orange management clearly have rocks in their heads... Though, it would be really really nice for O customers to get a useful data tariff to exploit the TyTN II to the fullest.
