Guest W0lveRine Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 So unbelievably moth** f*****g GREAT §§! I finally get to play the best game ever - Monkey Island 2 - and even better, on my MOBILE § Thanks alot !
Guest Emad Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 meaks - just go to the forum thread indicated in the original post and follow the instructions there ;)
Guest TheDillyYo Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 Help needed please.. I have installed scummVM in my games folder and it launches fine... However I am unable to load any games??? I have created a folder in the same directory as scummVM and named it the same as the game but get nothing when I select the play menu?? Can some1 please post step by step instructions... CHEERS
Guest Gorskar Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 I must say, extremely impressive! Got it working with Monkey Island1, it was a doddle! Copied the game exe to a folder in my SD card, and made a shortcut, and made a subfolder for MI1, with the monkey island1 .000 and .001 files in it (from my monkey Island BP CD). Game then loaded up fine. After re-reading the tutorial carefully, managed to get the music working also - altough the music is using up 20Mb of my SD card. It's very well done, I like how you can map the keys, and the landscape view takes best advantage of the screen. Only issues are that the backlight doesn't stay on, and the sound sometimes has slight pauses (although its cool that you can get the sound at all - its nice to have a bit of background music!) Hats off to you - great job!
Guest Emad Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 TheDillyYo - make sure you have them in the appropriate directory - eg /tentacle for day of the tentacle or samnmax for Sam and Max (see forum thread in first post). Then hit the scan button to scan for games, after that it'll populate the list.
Guest dodgybob Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 Er.... For sam n max try changing the files samnmax.SM1 and samnmax.SM0 to smanmax.001 and samnmax.000 respectively... You only need 3 files in the samnmax directory... ... the above 2 files and Monster.sou For monkeyvga and monkey2 I havn't deleted any files from my origianl floppy disk version... I just striaght copied to me phone! Question: How do I disable sound... I have done it in Sam n Max where the speech is removed {removed the monster.*** file}... this makes the game slightly more playable... the only way i could do it fully was to set the SoundThreadPriority in the .ini file to 6 and reduce the volume of the ADlib to 0 in all the settings in the ini file... With this... all the games work smoothly but without sound... I want the nice animation ;) Sound isn't important... but would be nice when the software has been optimised !!
Guest Arisme Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 disabling the sound this way is actually a good idea, because you'll still keep the sound-synchronization needed for some iMUSE games such as Monkey Island 2  and one more time we see that this is more a thread support problem than an optimization problem ... just hope that WinCE will implement a proper thread support one day
Guest Croccy22 Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 Ok first off I would like to say this is brilliant. I mean Day of the Tentacle on a mobile phone!!!!! Anyway I know this is in alpha (I really hope this gets optomised to run full speed). But has anyone had any problems with the sound on day of the tentacle. It works all the way though the intro sequence but as soon as the game actually starts and you get your pointer the speech seems to stop. And the wrting sometimes seem to have the bottom chopped of it (Seems to mainly do it on white text) Anyway just wondered if other people are having this or if it is something to do with my config. Thanx Matt Just out of interest what language is all this stuff programmed in. c++? I really wanna start developing for the phone but havn't had time to mess arounf yet. I've written a couple of games for the gameboy but I think this will be much more fun.
Guest Arisme Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 It's normal to have some lines of the text cut off, as I'm removing 1 line out of 8 to make the image fit on the screen ... and I think you have the floppy version of Day of the Tentacle, that's why you only have speech in the introduction sequence. ScummVM/PocketScumm is written in C++ (my contribution is more ugly C-ish) - the full source, including the SPV port, is available at http://www.scummvm.org if you want to check it out Now for the good news ! I played a bit with the AdLib generator parameters, and it's running faster, with a slightly less good sound (especially on long sound durations) ... give it a try ! http://arisme.free.fr/SPV/PocketScumm_SPV_030129.zip
Guest Croccy22 Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Hmm weird, played Day of the tentacle a bit further in and the sound and speech comes back fine. It works for the intro, then when you get your mouse pointer it doesn't work until you go down to the secret lab and the the sound and speech work again fine. Dunno if anyone else has experienced this. if not then I might try using the sound converter and re-doing the sound file.
Guest Arisme Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 give me the size of your sound file - and don't forget to try the newest release as it'll run much faster
Guest DJHope Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Ok its MUCH faster now, the only thing is is their no way you could make the mouse scroll smoother? Maybe up its priority or use other other tricks ;) Well done mate, keep it up! DJ Hope
Guest Croccy22 Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 My current sound file for DOTT is 1,439,740 Will try the new version as soon as i get home. well done!!!
Guest Arisme Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 then you don't have the full Talkie version, which should be around 120 Mb uncompressed and 45 Mb compressed  don't worry DJHope the mouse scroll isn't smooth just because I did something very simple ... it's not a speed issue and can be fixed by using a better method
Guest Croccy22 Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Are you sure it is meant to be that big? the sound seems to work ok when i play it on the pc. I think maybe the sound in the version i got maybe already compressed so this could be a problem I have got the original cd (silver cd with green and purple graphics if you want proof) but if got shoved in a box with all my old 286 stuff and does not look as good as it used to! Maybe time to invest in one of them funky looking cd repair kits ;) Just looking again and the version I have got was uploaded for use with pocket scumm for ce so I think they may have decreased the size significantly to make it fit.
Guest Croccy22 Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Ok I see what they have done. All of the main sequences in the game seem to have the speech but not the actual 'in game' speech. So looks like I am gonna need to try and repair my cd. Anyway congrats on the new version. runs brilliant on my phone now. If you can make moving the cursor a bit easier/faster/smoother then this will be Puuurfect!!!! Carry on! Matt
Guest conradg Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 I am trying to run Monkey Island 1 floppy version and placed all the files in a folder called monkeyvga in the PocketSCUMM directory on the storage card, but when i run the pocketSCUMM exe file i just get a screen with the PocketScumm logo at the top. Can anyone give me the paths needed to get the game to work or tell me what i've done wrong.
Guest Arisme Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 there may be a problem with this version of PocketScumm and Monkey Island 1 floppy ... I'll recheck
Guest tony_spv_2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 ummm i have sam and max on cd and i downloaded pocketscumm, i also have an unlocked phone. now how do i get sam and max working?
Guest youngerpants Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 tony, go to the linkat the start of this thread. The pocket scumm web site has full instructions... worked for me
Guest tony_spv_2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 i need to know who to use the soul program to convert the monster.sou to mp3 please. i have downloaded the zip from the website. but there are no instructions
Guest Croccy22 Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Erm, have you even tried to use the program. It is really not that difficult. Open the program. go to file open. open the monster.sou file. Automatically converts and saves into the same directory as orignal file was in.
Guest tony_spv_2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 i run the program and it just gives an error windows cannot acces specified path etc. im assuming u run it on ur pc and not ur spv?
Guest DJ WATTS Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 How cool is it that all the classic adventure games work on Smartphone. Ive got loads of old classic games including: Day of the Tentacle Police Quest 1 Police Quest 2 Police Quest 3 Leisure Suit Larry 1 Leisure Suit Larry 2 Leisure Suit Larry 3 Leisure Suit Larry 4 Leisure Suit Larry 5 Leisure Suit Larry 6 Leisure Suit Larry 7 Just missing Sam & Max, Indianna Jones and Monkey Island series So will these games just run straight off the emulator thingie if i transfer them across to the phone and install or do i need to alter the files somewhat. Sorry for being a bit of a newbie here but i kinda would like to know cheers.;)
Guest Gorskar Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 The game files should run straight off, just by copying them to a folder on the spv. You might need to do some messing around to get sound or music though. The link Arisme gave on the first post tells you what you need to do.
