Guest Neil5459
Windows Mobile 5 and 6 has separate memory types for Program and Storage Memory, whereas previous versions used a sharing process which dynamically allocated memory as needed. The change came about so that they could use ROM to ensure programs were not lost if the battery went flat, and the more expensive RAM to use for program and services execution. So, Storage Memory is analagous to the Hard Drive in your PC- your installed programs and user data are simply stored there . Program Memory is analagous to the RAM in your PC- when a program is executed, it runs in this memory, and changes to user data are stored there until saved- once saved they are stored in Storage Memory. At startup, and number of processes like Today Applets, Timers etc are loaded into Program Memory, which is why you rarely see the theoretical maximum available. When you do a soft reset, the contents of Program Memory are erased, but not the Storage Memory. A hard reset erases both and reloads the default factory startup settings.
