Guest damianbyrne Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Hi Everyone After talking to Vodafone, and talking to someone who seems to know the difference between a SIM, 3G and a phone, I have ordered a NEW SIM which will be in the post. As someone mentioned, it was free of charge. Thanks to whoever told me this. The "G" indicates its WAP enabled and does use GPRS - When the new SIM arrives, I have to activate for 3G Interestingly, they could not tell me what their price plans are for this... told me to goto vodafone.co.uk - does anyone have the actual link for 3G costs? Sonic Glad you got the Sim free of charge, however EVERY time I have set PDAs up, you either have a 3G SIM or you don't, as far as I am aware the only activation they do is to enable the sim, they normally ship them in a "barred" state to avoid, light fingers stealing and using them. I would double check they are sending you a 3G sim. The Prices for Vodafone as far as I remember are something like PAYG - 50p - £1 per Mb £7.50 - 120Mb £25.00 - Unlimited (Fair Usage Policy) I think these are correct but you might need to check, they are the same as the Datacard tariffs, although you ill need to "bolt on" voice to data or vice versa. I'll see if I can get the actual costs for you Damo
Guest damianbyrne Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 apparantly the usb is in a different place so no... not 100% on this though. I can confirm that my Kaiser/Tytn II fits into the carcomm car cradle and charges, its not a 100% fit (more like 95%), but good enough so as not to do a complete re-install.
Guest magic_peanuts Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Both I would say. Roll on some radio updates then. My office is borderline 3G. A good phone (M3100) will pick up a 3G signal (albeit weak) all the time. My Ameo doesn't get 3G at all there and I'm guessing neither will this. As for the GPS...I still cant seem to get google maps to connect. It doesnt do anything!! It's almost as if Google Maps times out too quickly while waiting for the GPS to pick up satellites. IS there a way of testing the GPS unit itself and just viewing lat/long data etc? I dont know whats going on...it doesnt seem to work at all for me at the moment. I guess I will have to wait until I can get tomtom or something installed to test it properly.... I've never had Google Maps working properly on a Qualcomm chipped device. My M3100 with a Sirf III BT receiver worked fine but on my Ameo it times out. Tomtom works fine although although TTTF is a little slow. Try some other 3rd party demo software
Guest Pepeto Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 wowwwwwwwww, please, more photos with the kaiser camera at maximum quality settings!!

I never managed to get it working on my M3100 in conjunction with a Bluetooth CoPilot either though...
Guest teamyrv Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Always in one take and most of the time I havent seen the stuff until the video. Some say it's dirty but it's my raw style! ;) i had seen the vid and did you mention HSDPA & HSUPA during the unboxing? According to the spec it only shows HSDPA....there any one knows for sure whether is there HSUPA in the Kaiser?
Guest steveoidm Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 you do know my photos were of the kaiser and not with a kaiser? will do some with it now though..
Guest Pepeto Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 you do know my photos were of the kaiser and not with a kaiser? will do some with it now though.. I think that none of them... is it true?
Guest steveoidm Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 (edited) I think the problem is with Google maps rather than the kaiser like you say... Initially it didnt work, then i setup tomtom and let it get a fix and google maps worked perfectly. Google just doesnt wait long enough for a fix. Trying to think of a way of activating gps if you dont have tomtom.... HSPDA is fast! Edited September 5, 2007 by steveoidm
Guest wi11 Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 (edited) Love my new TyTn II, hate the fact it won't activesync anymore. ;) Edit: Ignore me, it was fine when not going through the USB hub. FWIW, I'm not very happy with the camera quality. There seems to be little dynamic range and a lot of contrast blow-out losing detail. I'd use the camera for taking a snap shot of something unimportant I just wanted to record visually, but for holiday snaps etc. where I want quality I can print from, I'll carry my compact fuji digicam I think. Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 There are some GPS weirdnesses, i'm playing with tweaking it now. P
Guest leoiden Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 HOW about usa residents how many got one already I envy you european bastards in a positive way !!! EXCUSE my french!!!!!!!!!! ;)
Guest Sonicr360 Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Just had an email to confirm its been shipped (purchased this morning). Will wait and see - /vodafone should be sending the 3G SIM today, how long that takes remains to be seen. But not in too much of a rush, then I will propably opt for the largest data bundle they do (business user) Hope the device lives up to the hype ! I own an Samsung D900 and over the moon with this - its a great phone - and as a backup it will still be put to good use. Simon
Guest J273 Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 (edited) Just got chance to have a look at mine....Looks very nice.....well pleased. Just one thing .....when the device is closed the two halfs on the right hand side move ever so slightly apart.....Is this normal or not? I know it may sound a little petty but when i had my wizard ages ago it was the same,i thought it was normal until i got another and the 2 half's where alot more solid. Guest FlangeArtist Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Mine arrived today! Yay! Dissapointed though, on the delivery box it had a "Guaranteed before 1pm", and not 9am as I expected!?!?! Did I pay the eXpansys MoDaCo offer for before 9?
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Er, what made you think it was for before 9? P

Guest Hightech Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Said so on the Royal Mail tracking service by using the link from eXpansys!!! Be happy you got one who care if it is before 9 or after 1pm you still have one today...

Trying to think of a way of activating gps if you dont have tomtom.... Exactly - same thing I've figured on my way home. Google Maps' timeout is too short for GPS to fix position, so Google thinks GPS is broken/not present. I've started TT, got the fix and now it started working in both TT and GM with no problems at all...
Guest Mind_Rx Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 (edited) Can anyone pls clarify if the TYTN II supports SDHC? Edited September 5, 2007 by Mind_Rx
Guest forrestk Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 There are some GPS weirdnesses, i'm playing with tweaking it now. P QUESTION - speaking of GPS weirdness and getting tomtom setup... Now that you have your production release devices - have you (or anyone) discovered what exactly it takes to upgrade the "TomTom Taster Edition"? I'm curious if you have to buy a full separate version of tomtom - ie. the whole software package and install it along with the maps usind the dvd's OR if you can just use the TomTom software that comes with the TyTN II and order/download additional maps via the web.
Guest NuShrike Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 (edited) Can anyone pls clarify if the TYTN II supports SDHC?http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/HTC_Kaiser#Hardware http://www.htc.com/support/pdf/htctytnII/K..._Manual_web.pdf page 261 (SD 2.0 = SDHC) It is weird HTC doesn't label it explicitly as SDHC, but calling it "compatible".
