Vodafone UK Pricing

Hey - just got off the phone to Vodafone UK business support as I'd heard the Kaiser (v1615) was due out on the 13th...

a) she confirmed that 13th was the previous date but that now they aren't getting the handsets in until 17th

;) she was able to give me a bunch of pricing illustrations -

Anytime 500 £35 pm. 18m contract - 750m + 250 texts (using 50% extra + extra texts) - £102+vat

Anytime 500 £35 pm. 12m contract - 500m + 100 texts - £146+vat

Anytime 200 £30 pm. 18m contract - 300m + 250 texts (using 50% extra + extra texts) - £127 + vat

Anytime 200 £30 pm. 12m contract - 200m + 100 texts- £166+ vat

I forgot to ask to include the data plan in with this, so that may make it cheaper, but these give a good idea - bottom line - bargain. Yay...

These were off the cuff with no haggling at all from me, which made quite a difference last time i tried...

Data will be 120MB/month with a £7.50 bolt-on.

So based on that pricing, I could get the handset for £30 less than I paid for my HTC one from Expansys, and for £5/month less on the contract. Question is, do I take up the 7-day distance selling clause and send the Expansys one back in favour of a Voda handset......?

OF COURSE NOT! ;)

Thanks for posting that, I'm gonna be getting out of my o2 contract soon and this looks like it could be a winner. what do you think are the chances of getting a anytime 200 12month contract with more texts and a decent data plan for around £35 mark? Or is there pretty much no hope in hell of getting a deal like that.

actually pretty good i reckon - I've just been looking on the vodafone business website and I think she didn't calculate the options properly - as you still get one free "bonus" on the 12mth contract which you can use to get 250 texts with the 200 minutes (and apparently you get another free bonus if you buy on line). So that's £37.5 for everything you wanted....

I just had a look myself and I seen the anytime 200 deal with 'stop the clock' and the 250 texts. but I couldn't find anything to select a data plan. what kind of data plans would i be able to get for that kinda money?

it is the 128mb per month plan for £7.50 inc vat referred to by Webreaper above... according to the T&C the "monthly web browsing pack cannot be used for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services such as Skype or Peer-to-Peer services (such as instant messenger services, text messaging clients or file sharing). These services will not count towards the £1 per day charge or monthly pack, and are charged separately at £2 per MB, with a 5p minimum charge for each data session"

which means it could get a bit restrictive... and potentially a bit expensive. however it isn't clear if vodafone are actually following through on their threats, and there is some debate that they can actually tell if breaking some of those conditions in the first place...

;)

Since when has Messenger been 'peer-to-peer'?

I suspect they they probably put that clause in as a 'just in case' if they get somebody taking the mickey, but for most users it won't be relevant (i.e., it's a framework to enforce their FUP but won't be applied in most cases). I can't see how they can claim that a couple of MB/month on MSN is heavy peer-to-peer usage.

EDIT: Just read the T&C's - the above clause applies to the £1/day charge, not the 120MB clause. So if you buy the £7.50 bolt-on you're fine, but what they're saying is that you can't pay your £1 and then have unlimited data on that day (which, IMO, is fair enough).

ummm - i'm afraid it is for the 120mb pack too... ..and i quote, as last time...but this time with extra bold formatting ;) "The £1 per day charge and monthly web browsing pack cannot be used for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services such as Skype or Peer-to-Peer services (such as instant messenger services, text messaging clients or file sharing)."

but i agree with you that it is prob more just-in-case... or does anyone have experience of being charged for this sort of thing by vodafone?

 You're right.

At the risk of poking my head above the radar, I might clarify this with Vodafone. If I'm paying £7.50/month for 120MB of data, of which maybe 2MB/month might be MSN (which is very data-light), I'm going to be pretty miffed if it increases my data cost by £2/MB (so about 30%). ;)

Skype is peer to peer, MSN IM is peer to peer for the transfer of files but other wise is client/server.

Any news on cheaper monthly contracts? According to my O2 bills, I never go above £25 a month, and that includes their rip-off insurance that I took out...

Skype is peer to peer, MSN IM is peer to peer for the transfer of files but other wise is client/server.

So... if you're not transferring files over it, it's not P2P and thus doesn't break their T&Cs?

Also, since it's on their business page, is there any limits on who can do that? Or is it just a way of distinguishing the "young and trendy" phones from the "serious work" phones?

How about some perspective from abroad (Netherlands)? ;)

I bought the Kaiser with a 24 months contract, giving me either 720 minutes or 1440 text messages (i.e. 2 txt messages equal 1 minute) and unlimited 3G internet access for 90 euros per month (62 pounds). This deal enabled me to take my brand new Kaiser home for 170 euros (117 pounds).

For £60/month on a 2-year contract I'd expect a free device, free unlimited 3G access, my house & car to be cleaned and an all-expenses paid weekend away with Girls Aloud. ;)

I phoned Vodafone this morning expecting to be able to order the v1615. They say they have not yet got these in stock despite putting them back for release to today.

Looks like I'm going to have to sit it out a bit longer before getting my hands on one of these! They don't yet have a new date for release!

After my disappointed response to the bloke on the other end, can you believe the upgrades guy tried to sell me a v1605 instead?!!

"No, it's the v1615 I definetly want," I replied.

"Are you sure? The v1605 is a very good alternative you know?!!"

I felt like putting the phone down on him!

This is what I got back from our business Vodafone contact yesterday after submitting an order to them:

Hello Jonny,

The V1615 is due into stock on 1.10.07

Regards,

Sarah Digby

Customer Service Advisor - CIS 2

Looks like we'll have to wait a little while longer, unless anyone's managed to order one yet?

This confirms what I saw on screen in store, looks like we'll have to wait till the 1st then. the one good thing is it looks like the v1615 and VarioIII will be out within days of each other and as the "consumer" we can play them off against each other and bag ourselves a great deal :D

  • 2 weeks later...
Vodafone have delayed again until 5th October.

They said "end of the week" to me, and won't give a price until they're in stock.

2 down, Orange to go...

I heard from them today the 4th October. Let us hope we are not kept waiting with 'revised' dates after this weekend!

I would also be highly interested in the deals you manage to strike. I am currently on Vodafone Anytime 500 with 120MB Data Pack for £35/mo. I will only renew on a 12-month contract, so hoping to get a decent deal but I think this will be a sticking point for many of us.

It's HERE !!!!

I'm pleased to finally announce that the day is well and truly here. Vodafone called me about an hour ago to tell me the stock is finally in and the v1615 can now be ordered from Vodafone. About bloody time!!

I bartered my way down from £100 to £20 for the phone, which I'm happy to pay... Afterall, getting a £500 for £20 is quite cool. Alas, I could not get the 12 month contract, they just won't do it... So, bad news on that score, had to sign up for the 18 month...

It's £7.50 extra per month for the 120MB per month deal. After you use that, it's £2 per MB I think he said. I too am on the Anytime 500 minute per month.. So works out £37.50 per month now including VAT. (Because I travel a lot so I have the Vodafone Passport too)...

My bright new shiny v1615 will arrive tomorrow... I won't sleep tonight!

Chris
