The 'I got my Vario III' thread

thats w&w plus, i had normal one in mind.

And while on that, do you know what really is the difference? How do they block instant messaging on normal w&w ?

Ah right!

I think you get 1gb allowance on the normal wnw, 3gb on plus and 10gb on max. Not sure about blocking on the lower wnw tariffs - from what I've read so far its seems you are not meant to use the instant messaging services but they are not actually blocking it - you are just going against the user policy so if they find out you might or might not get rapped – is that right?.

they really do seem to be getting worse. Just came off the phone to their Customer Relations (apparantly higher than the normal people on 150) and they said that they couldnt do anything. I couldnt keep my discount and that i'd have to pay £42.50 for a £37.50 contract and that i'd have to pay £80 for the phone. They can go ...... ;)

I wonder who to move over to?

Three.co.uk seem quite good

o2 should have the XDA equivalent soon (probably).

IMO thats unlikely as they're busy with all that iPhone.

They may have something similar but not this year. We would already hear rumors about it...

I just got PAC for my o2 payg - wow that was quick- 4 minutes of conversation. I had to wait 2 days on contract to get it.

It's the O2 Stellar and is coming "by December", according to the XDA department of O2...

well with the amount of information available I'd be surprised if they would release it by December although someone on xda-dev said mid-October which is impossible I think.

even if, o2 is not attractive in anyway just now not having good data tariffs.

Friends, Romans, Countrymen and Geeks, Good afternoon! ;)

This is my first post. I am very happy that I have stumbled across modaco.com as I believe it is a MUST forums site.

I've been on t-mobile for 18months on the employee call, FLEXT35 (@£17.50) a month. The lady said it will cost me £279.99 (this is because of employee call she said, and would be £80 otherwise) to have VIII. I would not take that as an answer so I told her I cannot afford it, - she would not budge so I threatened to leave. She put me on hold and then came back and said, 'this time only, we will do it for £100' so I went for it. She added web and walk for free for the first month. I added the insurance too at £8.99. I opted to collect it from a store, but none of the stores seem to have it or know when it will be avail, so I rang back today and opted to have it delivered tommorow for £6.

When I rang back, I asked the guy, about the buttons because they dont look as tough and good as the TYTN II ones. I asked him who modifies the handset, he said HTC manufactured it like that for t-mob because they requested it.

The question I have for Paul and those of you who are lucky to have both the VIII and the TYTN; Which one do you think is better? Do you believe the buttons are 'cheap' on the VIII as compared to the lovely TYTN? And what other things to you prefer on the TYTN as compared to the VIII and vice-versa?

If anyone lives in or around Bradford/Leeds and has a TYTN II and wants to check and compare with my vario I would love to invite you for a geeky discussion over a cuppa.

Right... I've had my VIII for a few hours now and i'm absolutely loving it! I installed the windows live cab file that was on the xda forums and it works a treat! When i rang t-mob to ask them why the apps were missing the dude on the phone aid "HTC manufacturs the handset and the control what software goes on it" i just laughed and said "ok, cheers".

T-mob are the fools who change the software... bloomin punks!

Anyways this phone is sweet, i've changed a few bits n bobs 2 make it suit my needs but it's running stable except for this twitchy moment when i tried surfing to youtube after installing the adobe flash plugin. Whenever i go on that website my phone grinds to a halt! Oh well! No major loss! Also something cool i didn't realise until i hooked it up 2 my pc was the fact you can surf the next via the connection on your pc! This is handy if you've shared your broadband over wi-fi on your pc but useless if using the cable lol

Anyways... Day 1... So far so good! My number gets ported in a few days so it's game on! WAMP WAMP! lol

Thanks Phil. Even after that tutorial it wasnt as easy as it looked. Now I can see why the Tytn has the rubber back - easier to grip. I can see some complaints coming about the Vario having a slippery rear (ooooh eerrrrrrr!!!!) ;) When people use it with the slider out and tilted on a table the thing'll just slip slide everywhere.

Reeeesult!

Just spoke to them again. Apparantly even though i've been told a few times by the guys at 150 and the people at customer relations that there is nothing they can do they're giving me the 25% discount, a vario 3 for £80 and next day delivery. Schweeeeet

i also was a little confused about the door then i read the quickstart quide and read the manual. then ust gave it a good shove.

ok i have had it on hour.

Things i like

Web and walk and getting hdspa on my balcony.

The huge clock on today screen! lovin it.

The whole today screen launcher. awsome no need for software.

Being able to use the click wheel with the keyboard out. very ingenious!

Things i dont like

cant get it to work with active sync. accidently plugged it in before installing acitve sync ( i know rookie mistake) tried reinstalling no dice though.

ThIS IS a big one. ok so i try and go to facebook. and a18 plus filter pops up his annoys me it says i can bypass it by entering credit card info. so does this but still doesent work and know says i have to go into a store or call 150 to say i want the filter lifted!!! very annoying.

Things im going to have to get used to.

the slide that goes the wrong way.

on my wizard i had the top to buttons as msgs and ok/close which worked real well. now i keep reaching for the top corners but no buttons!

the keyboard especially numbers positioning. very diff.

Ok going to set up GPS then head into town to get food. and i will be using google maps to get to my local super market. lol

The over 18 verification takes a while. It took almost an hour for mine to get verified after i turned the phone off and then on again.

Keep trying the site and it'll work but don't keep entering your card details.

Mmm, I had to call 1818 to get the kiddie filter lifted while trying to access Facebook.com :| Odd that they should deem that site over 18 only!?!? Still, popped in my CC details when asked, and the ban was lifted immediately, and there was no need to reboot the phone either.

Any of you lucky guys have the means of testing the compatability of the Vario III with the bluetooth in a BMW?

cheers in advance

The Sept offer was free weekend calls only but i have a feeling it was a web offer only.
