I guess this threads intended more for the noobs who've just got their first PPC/phone device or those like myself who are returning back to the scene after a long time.

I've currently got a vanila Vario3 and want to start playing around, tinkering etc...

Be nice to see what apps and little gems everyone else has found and is using.

I'd be looking especially for an MSN messenger client (can't beleive there isn't one bundled!), preferably a better e-mail client too as the integrated solution seems very limited (once an accounts set up, you cant modify it it seems, I'd like to have it so it automatically checks for new mail ever 10 minutes during 'peak' hours and not at all after say 8pm)

Lets see what you've got then! ;)

xda-developers has a thread with some useful cabs for the Kaiser.

Ive got Google Maps and Slingplayer Mobile so far.

Resco, TCPMP, BTCrawler and a few others will be going on this weekend though.

I actually like the Email Client on WM6, so ill be sticking to that. ;)

I cant believe t-mobile took out windows live from the default program list. you could probably find someone at xda-developers to get you a .cab for it though.

as for programs, if got Resco explorer (a must), Resco photo viewer, Resco radio, Resco audio notes, TCPMP player, google maps, Microsoft live search, Netfront browser, photo contacts pro, pocket informant, sprite backup and sprite terminator, tomtom, and virgo which is an RSS application.

as for games if got Darxide EMP, Argentum, Amazine world, Atomic cannon, Lemonade inc. microsoft links, skyforce reloded, PMG golf 2, Tetris, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour golf

Has anyone found an MSN Messenger client for it? It seems really stupid that I'm paying extra for the privilege of being able to use Instant Messaging (on top of web n walk) and it's not even installed!!

As well as all the obvious things like Resco and SPB diary (which I've just discovered and think is absolutely fabulous - to do lists have to be on the today page or they get ignored) Newsgator is a great way of reading RSS and synchronising with my desktop.

But the program which has really suprised me is Pressreader - £8 per month and you get the whole content of your newspaper downloaded every day - it works out at about 4meg per issue of the times which is fine by wifi - and now I prefer to read it on the kaiser than on the desktop - it runs at an entirely reasonable speed.

Friendly suggestion: Check forum rules before you post links like this, the policy on software is very different to the one at XDA ;)

After one full day of using my Vario III, I have installed the following

  1. Modaco de-Brand
  2. Windows Live (the dodgy cab from t'other site)
  3. Total Commander
  4. PocketCM Contacts 0.15
  5. Picsel Browser ( another dodgy cab)
The version of PIE on the Vario III is sluggish compared to my original Vario even without over clocking. So I am looking at alternative browsers, Picsel while very nice doesn't do file downloads and takes too long to initially render the page.

I've got the following installed on my TyTN2:

- PhoneAlarm (beta ;)) for profiles

- Resco Explorer

- GPRS Monitor

- Calendar+

- WM6 Remote desktop

- Mortplayer

- PocketMusic free

- TomTom 6 + UK maps

- SynchroTime (to update my time from Internet Servers)

- TCPMP

- Google Maps (only use this when the search in TT6 lets me down)

Other installed bits (not apps but tweaks etc)

- Softkey mapper (to have 'new SMS' on the today screen)

- Inbox extender (gives 'Delete all' and 'Mark all as read' in PO)

- Macromedia Flashplayer

- Mortscript, used to auto-switch to PhoneAlarm's car profile when I start up TomTom.

Quite like the fact that a lot of the grips of WM5 have been sorted by HTC's WM6 ROM (either as part of WM6 or by HTC) so you don't need to install vBar (or equivalent), Smartskey, etc.

I'm still deciding on which music player is best; I've got some Shure SE210s and the sound quality is fantastic. PocketMusic is good, but not free, Mortplayer seems the best choice so far - only caveat being that when I get a call, it unpauses playback even if it wasn't playing previously! Its power-management seems superior over everything else. Still looking for the right skin though.

I believe Vijay555 mentioned possibly writing a hacked driver to allow the HTC W100 remote to work with non-WMP music players, which would be fantastic. He needs a W100 to test with first though - anyone near him could lend him one? :D

Where are you guys getting these apps from? Is there 1 specific site? Or are you trawling through the net? Just thought I'd check before I go and do the wrong thing.

Also, Resco radio - how exactly does it work? Can I pick up Virgin radio on it? ;)

Got my Vario 3 this morning (ordered it at 7pm last night and it arrived at 8am this morning!!) Got a new T-Mobile contract, Flext with WnW (normal £7.50/month version), if I install the windows live messenger will this be part of my inclusive browsing or will I get charged extra? Can T-Mobile tell this difference?

Also, which of the below software is free and which do you have to buy? I really like the google maps on the iPhone, I want it on my Vario3!

I have installed right now:
