Guest Jonne70 Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 I found a mitigation plan: MicroSD wifi card... (http://www.spectec.com.tw/sdw823.htm) unfortunately it is still expensive (around 160 US $) and will limit our additional memory use. Yes, but be aware that the card at the moment doesn't exist. It was announced a year ago, and still it cannot be purchased anywhere. So, at the moment, the MicroSD wifi card is just vaporware ;) What a bad, bad, bad idea of HTC to not include wi-fi. For example when travelling abroad, using 3G or EDGE can cost 5 euros per gigabyte, and wi-fi is the only sensible option.
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 Creamhackered: my internet fell over last night! All updated now. Its a real shame about the wifi, i use the Treo 750v a lot but my current digs has crap all signal (3G or otherwise!) and its lack of wifi is really starting to grate. I think the Dual has now moved to my "would be nice" list rather than the definate next phone i get!
Guest creamhackered Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 If we can get the S730's GPS working then that looks like the best option right now for an all round phone. Shame it's smartphone though.
Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 And fugly. The Vox is a good looking handset, the Wings is just a little chunky, boring grey too...

Shame it's smartphone though. That's highly unlikely- there was an extensive thread on XDA-Devs about getting the GPS to work on the TyTnI (which has GPS in the chipset) but it eventually came to nought as there was no antenna and no physical implementation of the chipset features.

Guest ror100 Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 HTC Touch Dual without Wifi = No deal. My opinion too Jakob, what a let down from HTC. Kaiser it is.
Guest paholman Posted October 5, 2007 Report Posted October 5, 2007 And fugly. The Vox is a good looking handset, the Wings is just a little chunky, boring grey too... S710 VOX (Kelly Brook) - A curvy fine looking piece you just love to get your hands on, but a little slow in the brains department S730 Wings (Carol Vorderman) - More intelligence, less attractive but you could do a lot worse ;)

Guest Tanek Posted October 6, 2007 Report Posted October 6, 2007 (edited) HTC Touch Dual without Wifi = No deal. I agree. I was just about to order it when I began wondering why WiFi wasnt in the tech specs on htctouch.com, but was on reseller sites such as proshop (probably cause they cited HTC touch ie not dual). With WiFi it would have been the perfect new pda/phone for me - pending how mp3 audio output connects, and whether it would be possible to connect with a minijack plug, perhaps by way of an adapter. But at €1 per MB of traffic over HSPDA makes this phone expensive in the long run, hence why WiFi is essential IMHO. WinMobiles6's many LAN friendly functions also makes a lack of WiFi seem illogical. Like waving a laptop computer at a bonfire making smoke signals cause WiFi was disabled on that too. I skipped the S710 too cause of numerous reasons that I wont list here. Perhaps the next time HTC will have combined the best from the two phones. Until then I'll keep plugging away on my SonyEricsson W850i w/Opera. Edit: Oh, my dream smartphone also has individual mp3/avi ringtones AND mp3/avi message/SMS notifications for each contact. ;) That would rock! Edited October 7, 2007 by Tanek
Guest Tanek Posted October 7, 2007 Report Posted October 7, 2007 Just ordered Kaiser (HTC P4550) - Great phone, looks like it will be the top PDA/phone for a while, and remain among the best for years to come.

Guest Monolithix (MVP) Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 Is VGa really that important at the moment? It certainly would be nice but in terms of screen viewing QVGA with cleartype isn't much worse is it?
Guest Tanek Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 (edited) Oh, my dream smartphone also has individual mp3/avi ringtones AND mp3/avi message/SMS notifications for each contact. ;) That would rock! So, my dreamphone = HTC Kaiser + Group SMS (for SMS forwarding to lists) + Photo Contacts Pro (for customizable ringtones/SMS tones per contact/category/profile) <3 Response to the above: Screen resolution is the least of things right now. I focus on functionality.. And I would rather that the Kaiser can do a lot, and has lots of support, than having larger resolution but you tap your wang waiting for community made stuff to appear.
