Does Brodit Kaiser/TyTN II mount fit Vario III perfectly?

Looking at the larger pictures, I'm still confident this will work. It looks like the USB cable is held in place by a top plate that looks to be glued in place. Remove that, replace the USB cable, and re-glue the top plate.

Once I receive mine later this week I'll get it apart and replaced and post a tutorial with pictures.

You have it right. The block that holds the usb plug is glued to the holder and the front plate of the block is glued in place to hold the plug itself in position. Whilst fitting mine, I did stick a screwdriver blade into the gap by the plug and gave it a little tweak to see if there was any sign of give from the front plate, but I'll admit to being a bit of a wimp and not really giving it any force, so no conclusions.

Im gonna let you go for it and see how you get on first! Good luck, I really want to do this mod. In the meantime, Im going to email the suppliers and see if they have any comments or help, and if a replacement mounting block is available.

Proclipusa is the Brodit distributor in the US, so I'm kinda stuck ;)

I used an Xacto knife to trim the rubber moulding. It only needs one slice down the side parallel the metal part, then you can pull it off from there. I was precise enough that I was able to reattach the rubber moulding when I switched to another device and it's hard to tell it was ever removed.

LMK how it goes. Wish I had one here to try it out on!

My brodit holder came in the post also today, got it installed already. Lovley piece of kit, works well with TomTom and the horizontal display.

At first I was a little concerned about blocking a vent, but the position of the device is perfect to see without taking your eyes off the road for too long.

I have to take my phone in and out of the car holder about 50 times a day.

Are the parts of this holder that touch the phone made of plastic? How easliy does the phone go in and out of this holder? I'm worried it may damage my phone!

I'm currently using the holder I got from the O2 shop for my XDA Mini S which has soft foam on the plastic bits that close around the phone, it works fine and won't damage my phone at all no matter now many times it take it on and off.

The only things I don't like about it..... you can't open the keyboard or rotate the phone in the holder AND unfortunately it presses the buttons on the side of the device, like the camera one. I've unbound the button with AEB so it doesn't load the camera, but it still constantly presses the button. I'm not sure if this will be caining my battery. Anyone any idea if constantly holding down a button will drain the battery?

Yeah, the quality is amazing. It takes a little practice to get the phone into the slider, but once you've got it then it's dead easy.

So i take it you normally just screw it to the pro-clip? I can get a proclip for my daily driver (fiat panda!) but not for my toy (VX220) so was hoping to reuse the back part of the mount i already have for my M3100 and screw the new Brodit onto it.

Also for those of you using TomTom how loud is is? I've got a active mount with speaker from GPSforless but i've not been that impressed with it. Thing is my toy car is so fooking loud i'm nto sure i'll be able to hear tomtom without the amplification. <_<

Ah but the existing mount for the M3100 isn't a brodit one, it's a cheapy active mount from gpsforless - i guess so long as the new bordit swivel has the ability to screws onto a non-brodit mount then there shouldn't be a problem.

(btw is the loudspeaker any louder on the Kaiser?)

I got one of these brodit holders for my Vario III from morpeth mobiles last week. It is an active holder, however, unlike my vario II active brodit holder, which allowed the vario II to slide in perfectly into the charger, the new one doesn't. The phone quite in line and I have to move the phone around (thus stressing the holder) before it goes in. Does anyone else have this problem or could I have a faulty holder?

Does anyone reckon i could screw one of these straight onto my fascia adapter in my stilo.

Instead of buying the clip I was thinking it might be good if I could attach it to my fascia adapter just above or below my headunit.

It's not perfectly flat however, so would that cause a problem?

its not my headunit but same adapter as i've used to fit into my dash which is where i intend to screw the brodit onto.

Yeah it should screw on fine I would say, though it would over lap your headunit.

There are 4 mounting screws, so it should be fine. You could also buy longer ones if the ones provided don't reach down into the plastic if on a curve.

Guys, sorry to ask what may be a very silly question - to which there may be an abvious answer - but what is the difference between an "Active" brodit holder and a "Passive" Brodit holder? I've done some research and just can't seem to get the answer!

An active holder has a charger attached to it so that when you put the phone in the holder, it's "actively" charging. A passive holder just holds the phone without charging it.
