Watching live BBC News 24

I've got a persistent issue when streaming live video from the BBC news site... (same for 5live audio)

over WiFi

1) go to http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_66...p=wm&news=1

2) click "launch in standalone player"....

starts playing in WMP - great.

when mobile using HSDPA/3G, WMP launches but just shows "connecting" and the content never starts playing. However i have a workaround that also works.... I go back to IE and launching the "Sports News Bulletin" - which is VoD content rather than live content - once this has started playing, which it always does, i can then go back to the news 24 player and try again, whereupon it always works.

can anyone explain what is happening....

You could try these links - copy them into Pocket IE and they will launch the video in WMP

PS I think the forum displays the links with shortcuts (..) in them - you'll need to right click and "copy shortcut" to see them properly...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsa/n5ctrl/tvseq/n2...o/news24_bb.asx

is the full broadband stream - works over WIFI really well (and

sometimes over 3G)

and

http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsa/n5ctrl/tvseq/n2...o/news24_nb.asx

is the narrowband stream, might be more suitable for general mobile use.

Oh, this is the weather

Niice. Thanks for those links :)

Would be nice if there was some way to store these in media player

After playing I find they are in 'My Playlists' in Windows Media Player . I did copy them to a PC first and then transferred them to my Smartphone. Really good. I don't know if this helps at all..looby :)

Worked great at home but not on the move I don't seem to see why media player could not handle this stream as its not in the megabit bandwidth range ? :)

Copied these to my documents will give them a try on the way home tonight.

Couple from me.

LBC which worked but Nick Ferrari is in OZ this week so I turned off this morning.

Haven't tried their 1152AM version but again very easy to rip out of the HTML.
