XDA Stellar review out on 4Winmobile

The reviews from Daron are generally some of the best around, and the reason why I purchased an XDAII many moons ago! Take a look if you're wavering at all, as a lot of the comments can appy to any of the Kaiser variants! ;)

Wow, I'm glad I didn't wait 3 months for that. Just slightly jealous they get the headset remote thing and worldcard mobile. I probably wouldn't ever use the latter, but maybe the former.

Love all the stuff about how O2 have "created" this phone "based on the design" of the Kaiser, to add to all the other XDA's they've handcrafted themselves. Isn't it about time they dropped all this branding nonsense and just came clean about what these phones are? Eg, an HTC product from the ground up, which just happens to have an O2 logo stamped on the front..

Not quite correct, but o2 have proven with devices such as the Orbit and Touch series that they have some sway in the design of the devices they sell. Orange pretend that they offer the HTC device, but one that's feature limited. Even the v1615 you own doesn't refer to the HTC brand. There are subtle differences in the offering of the XDA Stellar, however you could also post your comments on the 4Winmobile site to get the visibilty of o2 who will no doubt be looking at the comments of the review.

Actually Vodafone seem quite confused about the "V1615" - the people on the phones sold me it as the "HTC V1616", but then its referred to elsewhere as the "Vodafone V1615".. but not listed as a Vodafone device in most of the lists I've seen.

I'm not saying O2 are any better or worse than anyone else, I'm sure they have some cosmetic influence just as the others do - T Mobile use a different button design on their "Vario 3" for example, Vodafone have a glossy black finish compared to the rubberised original, or the silver of O2 and T Mobile etc etc - but all this essentially just boils down to branding. Underneath, they're all the same phone - conceived, designed, and offered in a range of styles and package options by HTC - not the network.

It's ironic that the only network not to change the Tytn II's name - Orange - are also the only company to have actually made substantial changes to the phone's software and functionality!

It just seems odd for O2 to be making a big deal about the "XDA Stellar" when the "Stellar" is instantly recognisable as one that has already been in the market for a few months now. At the end of the day, you'll pick up the "Stellar" if you want a Kaiser and are upgrading/interested in a new O2 contract. If you're not interested in O2 you'll already have a Vario 3/V1615/Tytn II, and all of this will be academic.

well they would be making a big deal of the stellar...the iphone was almost entirely a flop so now they need to make back all of the money that apple will inevitably have sucked out of them

the stellar has taken so long to get to market due to o2's conservative and thorough testing from my experience. the vodafone issue stems from them originally selling qtek kit prior to branding them their own. even now the devices are effectively htc equipment with a slight vodafone branding
