Motorola Q9H (AT&T) GPS... ACTIVATED! [updated]

Are you not tethering using IntShrUI.exe?

*slaps forehead*. I was not. IntShrUI is not affected, of course, by the patch. My comment applied to the alternative, non-preferred method of connection through manual setup of the modem, or use of AT&T's Communication software.

Thanks for the reminder / clarification.

The gps settings fix worked for me no problem on my Q9 global. I will try installing tomtom next week once I get a micro SD card for this baby.

Hi dear,

is there someone can help me to activate the GPS on my Q9 Global by At&T?

Which version of Tomtom I need? Mobile, navigator? What else? Do I need some patch or fix?

Thanks a lot and regards

Daniele

Good luck with TomTom, it does not work with the keyboard. You need to use fakecursor to use it. I have changed to Route 66, it is designed to work with the non-touchscreen WM6 phones.

Thanks

Hi,

has anyone been able to activate GPS on a Motorola Q9h in Australia running on TELSTRA?

I've tried all the methods suggested here without any success. I dont see the LCAService entry in my registry.

Cheers from DownUnder!

Hi

Do you have a Motorola Q9h or Motorola Q9h Global?

The Australian version of the Motorola Q9h does not have gps chip installed, so no fix will work.

Hello all. I downloaded and installed Pauls updated com3 cab and the gpsid cab for my Moto q9h then used gpstest to dial in the gps and I am on the dance floor! so a quick breakdown;

1. gps test works it locked in (be patient it takes a while)

2. I have no gps logo and can still see the the vibrate icon

3. I then tried google maps and it locked on my location

4. I rebooted my phone

5. Could not use google maps straight away.

6. rerunning gps test got a lock.

7. ran google maps and I am back in business

So here is the question..can I make a change to get google maps to run straight away?

Will report back regarding battery drain.

BTW...Thanks Paul for a great site and all your hard work with these cab files. Truly awesome!!

It just says Q9h so I guess its not the Global version. I understood the gps chip was in all models, just not enabled in some. Apparently not.

Thanks for the reply.

I have the Candian version of the Q9h on Rogers and the GPS worked from day one, without any modifications.

The short answer to your question would appear to be "no".

There are two GSM versions of the Q 9h... the one you describe (with 2100 band 3G); and the one distributed in North America (with 850/1900 band 3G.)

It appears that GPS function is available only on the North American version.

hi guys,

read throught the post. first of all, this is one of the best place i have seen, people are creative and responsive. thanks for all the hard work.

after reading this, i want to clear out something. the ATT Q9H never has any problem working with GMM and Live map, both of those programs works with Q out of the box if you download the current version.

the real problem or question is that how can we get the Q GPS to work with 3rd party map software such as Nav4all, Smart2go, etc. also Q GPS does not work with GPS test or Efficasoft GPS without changing the ports out of the original setting within Q. because it lacks of the setting in the OS to change ports or switch ports to work with other software. so can someone explain how to get ATT Q to work with the above software??

Has anyone gotten this to work with the Sprint Version of this phone, the Moto Q9c? I'd like to get it running with the Garmin maps.

I have the Q9C, and out of the box, Google Maps and Windows Live Search works just by using the default Intermediate Driver or standard settings.

My goal is to get Garmin Mobile XT working, but so far I've tried the following without any luck. I cannot seem to kickstart my GPS to use within Garmin Mobile XT. It just gets stuck at "Searching for GPS Device" when trying to View Map.

1. Unlocked my Q9C phone to install all applications.

2. I've installed the following first...

GPS Test: http://classic.pocketgear.com/software_det...p;associateid=9

Modaco GPS Activator: http://www.modaco.com/content-page/262137/...dated-/page/60/

3. Then installed Garmin GPS 10 Software: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3413

4. Then installed Garmin GPS 20 Sottware: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3389

5. Got my Device ID within the About screen in Garmin.

6. Installed the Maps from my official Garmin DVD.

7. Transfer a few states over from my PC to my storage card.

8. Using the Keygen 1.3, I create the two needed files, SW.UNL and GMAPSUPP.UNL and place it in the folder \Storage Card\Garmin, and also delete the Base Map.

9. Now that everything is installed, I run GPS Test but it keeps scanning for the GPS device. I try to set it manually to Com3 and baud 9600 and it still does not find GPS device.

10. Going into Garmin to find the GPS device either by choosing Com3 or Intermediate Driver, and neither finds the GPS Device.

11. I never even get to the point where it's searching for Satellite.

Any help would be appreciated!

are you using the right GPS test??? The GPStest app that's built into say the BJII doesnt have any settings....it's run from a shortcut pasted into the start menu folder. It's designed to work with the intermediate driver.

Well I've had it. I think I've done just about everything mentioned on here in an attempt to get nav4all to work on my AT&T Q 9h, and it's just not happening. I did the COM5 cab, the COM3 cab, the GPSID settings cab, the smartphone GPS activator, GPS test.....nothing works. I really had hopes for nav4all, but it looks like I'm just going to uninstall it and forget about it, unless anyone has any relevant suggestions. Hopefully I didn't screw up my phone too badly with all of this. :D

Ok, I just ordered my Q9h and it will be here in about 2 days. I have read all these posts and it seems that no definate solution has come in to play. Now just for a little back ground on me, I am a previous chef on XDA-Developers which includes the building of the NTS series of roms. After some hardware issues I have decided that it is time to move to the Q9H Global. Im really excited about getting this device. I have just on thing to ask, does the SmartPhone version of WM6 have a CommManager like the PPC version? If so, has anyone tried to figure out if there is a hidden button to disable or enable the aGPS chip at will? Just an idea.

Ok.. what am I doing wrong.. (Q9h) (Phone signal and bluetooth are turned off at the moment)

I installed the modaco com 3 utility...

I installed the GPSTest program..

I Installed Google Maps

I think it seems to find port 3 because eventually the GPStest screen will show me "GPS Off" and I can flip through the other screens.

What should the speed settings be 9600 or 19200?

Bah!

Thanks for any help.

Hi there - I also an a newbie and have been struggling with the GPS. From what I've experienced (if you have the Moto Q9h) uninstall all COM apps that you downloaded (both Com3 and Com5) - they may or may not work but they both cause excessive battery drain!!!

Install the GPSID app and move it into the application directory. Launch this and set the Program Port to COM3, Hardware Port should be (None), and click the check box to Manage Automatically the baud rate.

I use MS Live Search - so Google Maps might be different, but go into settings and set the GPS to COM3. My GPS takes about 2-5 minutes to initially fire up, but once on it works like a charm!! I;ve not had any excessive batery drain once I exit Live Search, so I'm very please that the GPS issue is finally settled - at least on my Moto Q9h.

Hope this helps!

But now it seems my gprs won't dial out

I dont seem to understand the need to unlock the GPS. I just installed a google maps cab I got that was bundled in with a homescreen I downloaded. My GPS works fine without any registry hacks. It finds satellites with no problems (most of the time). I figured out that it needs a clear line of site when searching for satellites. So if your in a car try to aim your phone towards the windshield or windows. Sometimes it takes several trys and sometimes I get it within 30secs. Not sure if it made a difference wether I got the GM cab directly from Google or not. But ill upload the cab and you can give it a go.

Google Maps and MS Live Search (both work on my Q9h; im assuming will work on wm5 and wm6)

GoogleMaps.CAB

LiveSearch.cab
