Guest 246810 Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) I am soon to buy TomTom for my pocket PC. I was wondering if you knew if the Tom Tom DVD is the best software format for my TyTN II. I was also wondering which TomTom software is the latest and most suitable software for my HTC TyTNII. Here are the links from Amazon.co.uk: This one is TomTom 1T90.010 Navigator 6 Software & Maps Of Western Europe On DVD: cost is £87.99 http://www.amazon.co.uk/TomTom-1T90-010-Na...6763&sr=8-1 This one is TT NAVIGATOR 6 SOFTWARE + MAPWESTERN EUROPE DVD IN: cost is £84.14 http://www.amazon.co.uk/NAVIGATOR-SOFTWARE...6763&sr=8-1 Edited December 20, 2007 by 246810

Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 How about this? http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/...escription.html P
Guest tsutton Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 That's a good price. I paid more a while back. :/
Guest Subliminal Aura Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Tomtom navigator 3 the best tomtom ever, More configuration options than the later tomtoms. Very disappointed with versions 5 and 6. Version 6 even has the same mapping errors that version 3 had ! I thought they could have at least updated the maps. rant over. ps Nice link Paul - didn't know it could be had that cheap :(
Guest Swampie Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 I have TomTom Navigator 5 working on my Vario III - in fact, it works better with fewer lockups than on my old Vario I. I think I've only had 1 lockup in a few months, whereas I might get one every couple of weeks before.
Guest 246810 Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 How about this? http://www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/...escription.html Thanks for this link. However, I don't quite understand how a mini SD version of TomTom will work on my TyTNII? I would have thought I would have to buy the DVD version Also, here is another link from amazon with software simmilar to the one you've posted, what do you think? TomTom 1T90.060 Navigator 6 Software & Map On MiniSD Great Britain - £65.98 http://www.amazon.co.uk/TomTom-1T90-060-Na...0027&sr=1-1 Tomtom navigator 3 the best tomtom ever, More configuration options than the later tomtoms. Thanks, but I still prefer the latest version of TomTom on pocket pc I posted a simmilar question on the xda developers website and I was told: "I believe the latest Official release for PPC is Tomtom version 6.03.8320 although there was a version 6.032.8351 which was distributed with HTC P3600i phones. Make sure that you get as a minimum version 6.030.8320 as it is faster...more stable and recognises the built-in GPS. Of the earlier versions only version 6.00 and 6.01 were official releases...6.1 and 6.2 were not "Official" release" I am interested in purchasing the latest TomTom 6.03.8320 or 6.032.8351
Guest 246810 Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 (edited) Hi all. Update: I've just got off the phone with a TomTom adviser from TomTom company (www.tomtom.com). They have told me the following. I was told by by the advisor that I have to create account with TomTom. I then have to select navigator 6 model on the website and select the map types I want to purchase. They told me that the latest updated maps for the UK cost £29.95 and maps for western europe cost £39.95. I signed up with them and gave them email. Here is what they sent me by email: Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support. To install Navigator 6 onto your PDA, please do the following:- Step 1 - Uninstall any previous version of Navigator from your PDA - Make sure you have a minimum of a 1GB SD card - Format the card using a card reader. - Remove the SD card from the card reader. Step 2 - Open TomTom Home - Click on File -> Login, enter your account details - Click on Install to TomTom, press control + F8 keys together on your keyboard - TomTom Home will download your updates Step 3 - In TomTom Home, click on File -> Login -> Logout - Connect your card to a card reader and connect the card reader to your PC - In TomTom Home, click on Device -> Change Device - Click on 'Change Target Device' - Select the target device as 'Pocket PC' if you use a Windows based Pocket PC - Select the target device as ‘Palm OS’ if you use a Palm PDA Step 4 - Click on Install to TomTom - Select the map and the zip code files, press install. The map and the zip codes are now installed, we now need to install the application, to do this please follow these instructions:- Step 5 - Download the attached file to your PC - Unzip it to your Desktop - Copy the extracted files and folders directly onto the SD card using the card reader. Once you have done this, insert the SD card into your PDA. Navigator 6 will now auto install onto your PDA. Please do not activate your product until you are prompted to do so on your PDA. To activate your product, please visit http://www.ttcode.com Your product code for your downloadable map can be found on your TomTom account login under the PLUS Service section of the website. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I was also told that I can update my maps daily with a function called 'mapshare'. This tool allows users to download the latest maps from other users. I was also told that the maximum memory card size I can use to put my maps on is 2 GB. I was told if I was to purchase an 8GB memory card, that I won't be able to put the maps on there, and that I would have to switch memory cards to access the maps if I was using an 8GB memory card Edited December 20, 2007 by 246810

I'm running a 6gb MicroSD and tomtom works fine.
Guest 246810 Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 That's bollocks. I'm running a 6gb MicroSD and tomtom works fine. Thanks for that straight to the point clarification. Looks like I won't be carrying around two memory cards
Guest lozzd Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 Heh, it was a little blunt, sorry! :(
Guest 246810 Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 Heh, it was a little blunt, sorry! :( Thats cool. I can be pretty blunt myself at times but minus foul language
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 Gah, my brain obviously read it as microSD :D Buying the maps direct, cheaper, is a MUCH better option then! And I use TT on my 8GB microSD no problem :( P

The navigator software I was given was the navigator 6.030 version, so all seems well. I havn't installed or actiivated anything yet for the simple reason I'm looking to have more device replaced. And yes Paul, it does seem the TomTom advisor was mistaken when he told me the maps could not be installed on memory cards with a greater capacity than 2GB
