Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 $200? Not quite! http://www.semsons.com/gtksiiiibtgp.html Oh, and a league table of my referrers is a good idea :) P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Current leader is fozza closely followed by wjat123 :) P
Guest tsutton Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 I did a google search and found some Bluetooth gps systems, but does the carrier charge me for use of the gps unit that costs like 200 dollars? Your carrier will not charge you for using GPS. All you need is a GPS device, that's all.
Guest Fozza Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Current leader is fozza closely followed by wjat123 :) P Eak!!! Grabs keys and goes to drive aimlessly around
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Hope they fix the stats table soon, i'm at about 200,000 for this month now I think :) P
Guest Monolithix Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Eak!!! Grabs keys and goes to drive aimlessly around Is that really worth it with the current insane price of petrol? :)
Guest Fozza Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Is that really worth it with the current insane price of petrol? :D It is if the company pays for your fuel :)
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Yay! I'm back in the stats! 1 paulatmodaco 191606 2 jra 138010 3 bob 115076 w00t :) P
Guest Fozza Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Yay! I'm back in the stats! w00t :) P Whats the prize again?
Guest Shuflie Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Whats the prize again? A t-shirt, mug and coaster with Navizon.com printed on them, or something like that, they're basically giving the top prize as $50 to spend in their shop. Trouble is that their shop is just what used to be referred to as marketing materials that got given away free at trade shows, and now is called merchandising, its the same junk but you now have to pay for it. (sorry for sounding so cynical, I do realise that lots of places do it now)
Guest tsutton Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 For anyone wanting to share GPS from your MDA Vario III (aka Kaiser) with other phones, see this post Getting GPSGate to work with MDA Vario III and share your GPS!
Guest colin d Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 $200? Not quite! http://www.semsons.com/gtksiiiibtgp.html Oh awesome Paul! Thanks alot! Two last questions. 1. Will my service (AT&T / CINGULAR) charge me for the usage of the GPS? 2. Do I need Mobile Internet to use the GPS? Thanks for all your help you guys! -Colin.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 1. No 2. Depends what you plan to do with it! P
Guest colin d Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 (edited) I plan to just track my route, and do the points thing and the basic GPS stuff, like turn by turn. If that is able to work, I'd be able to just sync to my computer to get my points and stuff, right? Edited January 23, 2008 by colin d
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Ummm, you can do the points thing and sync via your PC later using Navizon, yeah. Turn by turn routing will need another app? P

Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 New points allocations from Navizon: - 15 points for each Wi-Fi access point - 3 points for each cellular tower if they are discovered by you (or in other words if you are the first one to map them) - 1 point for each Wi-Fi access point - 2 points for each cellular tower if they have already been mapped by someone else P
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 I notice the reward amount has gone from $19.99 to $20 :) P

Also, I'm a tad peeved by this because I bought it yesterday, I'm gonna ask for my money back, had I known they would change it so that you only got 1 or 2 points for already discovered places I'd not have bought it. Anyhoo, it was to open to problems/abuse you could very easlily see where there were very dense populations of AP by looking at the maps on Navizon, then you could go there and collect easy points and again if you had another sim, perhaps we were being too clever and open on Modaco and they saw some flaws. Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 We just found that mistake too - listen to our podcast tomorrow and you'll hear us discover it live on air :) P

I'm pretty sure that you can double up your point (at least for Cell towers) by using another sim still if you're in a relatively uncharted region. I only seem to find t-mobile towers when I drive home on my t-mobile sim, no Vodafone, Orange, O2 or 3 ones. Will test the theory some time with a PAYG inserted.

That's right, whatever SIM card you have is only tracked to your mobile's mast. Use another sim card to pick up other cells.
Guest OzzMosiz Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) Am I being a dumbass, I get Phone and Wifi on Green, GPS isn't showing up. But Tracker Status is disabled. So I stop it, start it, and it disconnects Wifi (goes orange) and switches to GPRS. Edit: Sorted it - power management! Edited January 24, 2008 by OzzMosiz
Guest cleandemon Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Is it possible to get Tom Tom accessing my bluetooth GPS unit at the same time as this? After much fiddling I've managed to get Navizon to see the GPS unit, but if I then start Tom Tom it says "No GPS device".
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Which device? You need to point both this and TomTom at the port configured with the 'intermediary driver'. P
