Guest amo Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Wow, a truly great application for WM! :( I've been using my Vario 3 for my primary internet connection at home and this means that there's one less wire to connect! Now that it works in ad-hoc mode, how difficult would it be to use more than one client to connect to the WM device? It's already assigning IPs, so can't be too difficult to include? Now that'd be awesome!!
Guest BrownSource Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Couple of (poss daft) questions: - 1. Can you still receive incoming calls whilst this app is runnig on your device? 2. What sort of speed is the client getting? is it 1.8Mbps or as near as? Thx
Guest xorangefirex Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 I downloaded it and couldn't exactly get it working. My phone wont let me uninstall it, and for some reason my basic "internet sharing" program doesn't work now. I'm going to have to reset my phone if I cant fix this. Anyone have any ideas for my kaiser?
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 So does this get round the "Your not allowed to use your phone as a modem" issue on Tmobile? Am I right with the understanding that this issue is only for "Web n Walk" since the Terms and Conditions of the Web n Walk Plus or Max plans do not detail this clause, whereas the standard version does.
Guest dr_nick Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 for some reason i cannot install this application on my orange m600 (standard rom) - is it only for WM6 sorry i am so out of date! :( (currently debating between htc touch/dual or switching to tmobile for wnw)
Guest Monolithix Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 You may have to install the .NET Compact Framework first: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
Guest jimbouk Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 With the latest roms and advanced config apps, you can set your ICS to share over wifi quite easily too. Those people posting "its one less wire to plug in" - I don't follow. You either plug your Wm device into your pc via USB (and use ICS) or you have to plug it in to the mains (when using WMwifirouter)? Otherwise the battery runs flat in three hours...
Guest madferret Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Am I right with the understanding that this issue is only for "Web n Walk" since the Terms and Conditions of the Web n Walk Plus or Max plans do not detail this clause, whereas the standard version does. AFAIK that's right but they do have 'fair use' policies. Last time I checked with T-Mobile - when I added the Plus pack to extend my old WnW tariff from 40MB a month to 'unlimited' - they told me that you get a warning and service slowdown the first time you go over the limit then a request to upgrade your package. Sounds a lot better than the Vodafone approach!

Anyone have any ideas for my kaiser? It's still a 'beta' product... May need some tinkering to get to work. Try running WMWifiRouter again and using "Crash Cleanup" option to fix internet sharing again. Don't know where this uninstall issue comes from though, more people have seen it. Just uninstall the program through your control panel, remove the item from the programs list, then remove the files manually if you have that problem. is this only for PPC? cant install on my Vox Somebody has gotten it to work on Vox, but it's still a bit tricky. Working on it. Wow, a truly great application for WM! :( I've been using my Vario 3 for my primary internet connection at home and this means that there's one less wire to connect! What sort of speed is the client getting? is it 1.8Mbps or as near as? Thx 1 - This seems to depend on phone. My phone disconnects the sharing when a call comes in. Others say the caller gets voicemail. 2 - As fast as your data plan allows. You may have to install the .NET Compact Framework first: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en .NET CF is not used or required. Guest jimbouk Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 I have Dutty's Dualtouch V3 rom on my kaiser and Shaps Advanced Config Tool V1. On the latter, on the connection TAB, there is a drop down box called "Private Interface for Internet Sharring" and in the box is: BTPAN1, T1ACXWLN1, TNETW12511 etc etc etc (ie all the different possible web connections on the device). I dont think you need the rom - just the advanced config tool.

Guest jimbouk Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Are you saying that ICS over wifi doesnt work? Only its been working on my device for about a month.
Guest Chainfire Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Are you saying that ICS over wifi doesnt work? Only its been working on my device for about a month. It may work for you but changing just those settings is not enough for a lot of devices, and configs needs to be changed to use WiFi differently. This is totally not to bash schaps tool btw, I love that too, it's just a lot different in the functionality it provides. And yeah ofcourse you can do all those things manually, but that's not very handy now is it. But hey to each their own - it's nothing to me if you prefer to use schaps for it. NB WMWifiRouter has been working on my device for almost three months.
Guest Transform Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 (edited) I have installed the latest version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357152 but after it installs and the icon goes green, I can't see the wireless network on my PC. I'm justing a Vario 3 but when I go into the WLAN settings, the WMWifiRouter is always on Connecting and never actually connected. Can anyone help? Just after posting I have got it working. But it would seem that it doesn't connect unless I go into the WLAN settings and hit connect on the WMWifiRouter connection. It seems to say 'Connecting' for ages. I have just quit the program and tried it again and it doesn't seem to connect to it now :( Edited January 11, 2008 by Transform
Guest deadphill Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 has anyone got this working with a psp? I tried entering the details manually but no joy. Any ideas?
Guest Transform Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 im still having problems making it connect in my connections list under wifi settings on my phone. anyone else got this problem?
Guest WearTheFoxHat Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 im still having problems making it connect in my connections list under wifi settings on my phone. anyone else got this problem? Yup ... earlier this week I had a three hour train journey to London ... so I thought "oooh I can setup WMWifiRouter and use my laptop to surf!" When I set it up .. the one with network settings, the only thing is seems to do is lock onto my home wifi network. So on the status screen it says "Connected ... WearthefoxhatNET". Then when it is away from home it says "Connected WMWifiRouter" but the laptop wont connect to it. Then when I disable it, and exit the application it seems to stop the phone from connecting to my home wifi. I got rather frustrated at this point and uninstalled it ... and it still appears as a network on the phones list of available networks! Now it seems its totally gone ... so I sent my g/f out to get a bluetooth dongle for my laptop ... then I can ICS over bluetooth and continue surfing! It looked such a promising app too, and I know Chainfire resides on here ... but I just found it a little unpredictable in its actions. Although I would still try later versions of it, especially when WPA is working properly and I can be certain that I am the only one using it!

I had it working on my laptop, but not without some effort. I had the same issue with my home network being preferred, but then had to tell it to connect to adhoc networks only. Also think I had to use a specific IP address on the wifi adapter. Cant remember.

Yup that sounds about right. For me personally, thats too much messing about with an app. Id like it to connect at home via the home wifi. Then if im out and about, and I enable the wmwifirouter, then it just comes on and connects. (I dont mind initial configuration work, but not every time I use an app). Edit: Chainfire, I hope you see this as proactive feedback, rather than criticism, as it is a great app. Edited January 18, 2008 by WearTheFoxHat
Guest dmr54 Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Went to look for this app and the website advises downloads are not currently available :)
Guest mwright Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Does anyone have the latest (0.91) version of this? The website is still saying downloads disabled at the moment.
Guest deadphill Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 has anyone found any way of connecting this to a psp? Sorry to be a pain but this is something I think would be awesome, short of either sony making a psphone or a usb sim card mount !! Thanks Phill
Guest mwright Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Over on XDA I found this posting from Crossfire "Due to legal issues the download is currently offline and I don't know when or even if it will be available again at this time. It's going to be a couple of weeks at least, though." Looks a bit worrying doesn't it
Guest deadphill Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 I wonder what the legal issues could be. this is just a program which makes it easier to make a router of a ppc as there was already a guide on how to do this on XDA. The mind boggles! Phill
