Guest bananas78 Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Just tried and get no issues. o2 XDA Graphite, WM6 Rom UK_v3.40_XB_070711 Would try on SPV C600 but Orange seems to have major network issues in Nottingham area at the moment, no network coverage for around 2 hours. I remember a post somewhere on here where you could get msn messenger 2002 installed and running fine its involved the 2002 cab and then an upgrade. Both available to download from MS. Anyone remember this
Guest chazdent Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 I'm running MSN Messenger on a wizard on o2 and no message. So I guess this is only a Windows Live Messenger, not MSN Messenger issue. So the question is, can you rollback to MSNM or is it easier to just use the competition (if that'll still work!)?
Guest hotphil Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 I'm already liking Palringo as an alternative :-)
Guest KevinAlbrecht Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 No message (in Microsofts backyard) running WM6 ATT Tilt WLM 10.6.0033.0600. But when I signed in this morning, I was not watching. Just flipped back to my today screen.
Guest Syphon Filter Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Before we panic and shun MS, lets see what they have to say about it. Paul is already on the case and hopefully we will know more soon(ish). I must admit, it's quite worrying and I for one would be quite unhappy (mainly out of principle) if we had to start paying for this service. But we should reserve final judgement until we know what exactly is going on.
Guest Noger Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Isn't it a bit odd that this is almost exactly like the MS/Nokia tie up ? That charges for a 30 day period ? http://europe.nokia.com/A4487158
Guest dolbe666 Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 (edited) ok ive checked the microsoft connect site to see if there is any mention of the windows live going subscription and there is no sign of anything like a subscription coming soon or even mentioned. microsoft windows mobiloe site has nothing about it either http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windowsmobile/...indowslive.mspx I beta test windows live messenger for microsoft and nothing has been mentioned. that leads me to believe its a mistake. Ive got the uks rep for windows mobile in my contacts so I'll give her an email to see whats going on Edited January 9, 2008 by dolbe666
Guest hotphil Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Kind of a big mistake to make - accidentally put in a splash screen for Mobile users only advising of a specific change to services and then accidentally activate it? Could well be wrong, but would have to be some kind of massive blunder to do that.
Guest dolbe666 Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Well the email has gone out so hopefully she is in her office and will reply asap
Guest dolbe666 Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 (edited) just to add something. I got the message on mine also but didnt click ok, the login times out because I was sending that email. when I went back and signed in again it didnt show the message and hasnt since. this was without me logging in the first time or selecting ok. I have a feeling this message was not meant for windows mobile devices but was meant for none windows devices such as nokias and symbian devices that use windows live, those phones may be subscription only for windows live. the message may have been sent to all devices instead of just none microsoft mobile devices Edited January 9, 2008 by dolbe666
Guest deadphill Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 This seems to be other peoples experience too. I certainly got the message when I saw this thread and then tried it. I just closed the app after that point. I will wait and see what happens with this.. I shall not be paying to use this service, thats for sure.
Guest welshmikie Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 HI I use a MDA Vario 3 and recieved the message earliar today :(
Guest ToneBank Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 I have the same problem on my S730. I have email microsoft and they told me that Messenger IS free but my license have expired (?) and it should be HTC that should give me a new one. And i have spoken to HTC and they are aware of this (the guy I talked to spoke to his boss whom had heard this some few times). But they couldn´t do anything for now. My "licens" expired only 3 days after I bought the phone. Btw HTC guy told me to do a Hardreset but it´s not worth it, then I have to reinstall all of my apps.
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 A hard reset won't help, it's tied to your live account it seems. P

That sucks :( Did you try my workaround here: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=869119 I know it's not very usefull if you wanna connect via gprs but it works fine with wifi for me...
Guest hotphil Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 I'm finding Palringo to be a better workaround :( Need to be sure though that it's the client that requires the subscription and not the service otherwise in 30 days me and all my mates will have to switch to Yahoo! or ICQ etc for our chatting!
Guest Phil_UK Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Hi Just signed in now after reading these threads and yes got the warning. The whole message looks rather amateur. I can't believe it's a mistake as it takes some planning to show a message like that. I wonder how the charge is made, perhaps Messenger tells our phones to send out some premium rate texts each month! I will not be paying to use Messenger on my phone, Microsoft have enough of my money already and let's face it, they're not exactly cash strapped as a company. Regards Phil

That charges for a 30 day period ? http://europe.nokia.com/A4487158 They've always warned that they MIGHT start at some point, but you'd get a 30 day notice before the charge comes in - that started today for us Nokia users too.
Guest whatmeworry Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Hmmm, got the same thing on my T-mob VIII which is no surprise. Seems a strange thing to do if it is deliberate, especially as there are so many alternatives.
Guest doctormetal Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 hmm, nothing wrong here in holland. Could sign in without getting any message.
Guest KevinAlbrecht Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 (edited) Is it possible that this is some sort of malicious attack? To cause a stir in the community? Seems very strange that MS is so mum on it, and that not every user is affected? EDIT: Funny when you Google this, all reference MoDaCo Edited January 9, 2008 by KevinAlbrecht
Guest McHale Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Using AT&T on a Kaiser (HTC P4550) using the stock FW. I do not get prompts and it works fine. Maybe it's a regional thing? -Mc
Guest unknown-singh Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 yep i recieved the message yesterday on my HTC TYTN II (standard rom) Orange network. how can they do this. :(
