Hi, I've posted this on XDA-Developers already but haven't got anywhere so hoping someone here might be able to help.

I've updated the ROM and radio on my Vario 3 a couple of times and have now discovered that my GPS isn't working. To try to fix this, I've reverted to old ROMs and radios, and also hard reset a few times but nothing seems to get the GPS going again. When I load up the GPS Tool and click open, no messages appear in the window at all. I seem to recall that when my GPS was working, messages would appear as soon as I clicked open, even if I was indoors and there was no chance of a signal getting through.

Radios I've tried are: 1.27.12.11 (my original radio), 1.27.12.17 and 1.27.12.32.

So it seems as if the GPS hardware is dead at the moment. Can someone suggest something that I can do to fix this? I can't believe flashing roms and radios could have killed it completely.

Many thanks in advance!

To begin with, I have no answers for such a technical pocket pc question.

I am wondering whether or not you do have insurance or are still within your warranty for your phone? Also, did you buy the Kaiser or get a branded version from a network? If so, the last thing you should attempt, if all else fails, is to be quite cunning with your warranty officials, so as to have a new handset sent out to you.

I flashed my ROM on my MDA Vario III (T mobile branded) and I had issues. In addition to this, I had some scratches on the exterior which negated the attractiveness of my phone. With a bit of manipulation and exaggerating non software issues I had with my phone (keep in mind that in some cases, flashing invalidates your warranty so you may have to lie), I had a new handset sent to me, with current updates, and no hideous scratches on the exterior. And I didn't even have to utilise my insurance for it. Isn't warranty great?

try sim unlocking the device and then re-flash the 1.27.2.32 radio back to it, hard reset, then try just the gps test utility to see if it works. you know the gps is active if you see the LED on the right hand side flash orange. if that fails i think your SOL and probable need to see about warranty exchange.

I've tried flashing different radios but no joy. Interestingly, the LED does flash orange but software doesn't seem to be able to connect to the GPS hardware.

Just in case anyone else has the same problem, it does seem as if the problem was updating my phone with Schapp's 6.1 ROM. I updated the phone again, this time with Sleuth's 6.1 which also included a 6.1-only radio. This solved the problem and the GPS started working again.
