MWC 2008: Sony Ericsson drop in on the Windows Mobile Scene! [Update 1!]

Just to confuse things some more...

SOURCE

Both sources are SE!

My money's on microSD - the press release should be the most accurate source, the product page is just something knocked up by some poor guy that's already typed "Memory Stick Micro" a hundred times for every other phone on the site, and gotten confused. That site also lists a whole pile of compatible accessories for the X1, most of which require the standard Sony Ericsson Fastport connector - which the X1 very clearly doesn't have! Trust me, you'd see it in the pictures if it was there (it's a lot bigger than the mini-USB which definitely is present).

SE have relaxed a little on the Memory Stick front in recent times - their latest camera phone, the K850, has a slot for both Memory Stick Micro and MicroSD. It may be that Sony are recognising there's more important things in life...

It better be a MicroSD!

It all looks pretty perfect so far to me, which is never true for WinMo devices, I'm still waiting to hear some downsides (apart from the price of course!)

So does the Xperia have an iphone type orientation sensor or is the last bit of the video on their website a bit of marketing spin? (To see what I mean look at the bit that shows the panels view switching from portrait to landscape as the phone is rotated)

At last a WinMo devide with not only a good spec but an amazing spec :)

I am most definitely coming back to the fold. Orange - if you don't get this on launch day I am switching networks after 9 years.

To answer an earlier question, it does appear to have a tilt sensor in a Barcelona demo vid I saw on YouTube.

Xperia "END OF STORY"

Real "KAISER KILLER"

Move over Iphone

Woah woah woah...hold on there a minute buddy.

The so far the xperia "looks" good.

The Kaiser IS good.

Lets reserve final judgement until we have had some proper reviews and some of us get some hands on impressions up.

I agree though, it does look freakin' hot doesnt it!! :)

If you carefully listen to one of the video, you should heard that the battery is 1500 mAH ...

See the video here

The OS is Windows Mobile 6.5 (go figure!) ... and It uses MicroSD (not memory stick) :

SOURCE

According to PDADB, the CPU is Philips Nexperia PNX4008

XPeria at PDADB.net

And (from the video above) it is 520 MHz CPU.

Do you reckon this device might have WM 7.0? I've noticed that it seems to have a tilt-sensor-like thing on the panel screen which is a feature in WM7?

The tilt thing is not really an OS feature. It's just a hardware sensor.

WM6 could achieve the same functionality on a device with the appropriate hardware quite easily.

I really think you guys are going to hate this phone.

SE look like they have put a pretty heavy front end on it which means that all those custom home screens and extra software will be tricky to install.

It's the same problem as the iPhone where it is not designed for the tech savy user who is not just satisfied to run something as it comes out of the box.

Having said all of this, this is pure porn and I like all of you, I am thinking this is the replacement for my S710.
