i-mate™ and Telstra announce exclusive partnership to deliver two high-speed i-mate™ Ultimate mobile devices

Partnership to deliver superior mobile solution to Telstra customers, and further enhance i-mate™’s position as Australia’s leading provider of Windows Mobile® devices.

Barcelona, 12 February 2008 – i-mate™, the global specialist in Microsoft® devices and software applications, today teamed with Telstra Corporation Limited, Australia’s leading telecommunications company, to launch the i-mate™ Ultimate 8502 and i-mate™ Ultimate 9502. Telstra is the first operator to deploy these devices globally and both devices will be exclusive in Australia to Telstra customers.

Building on a five-year partnership which has seen the successful launch of 10 world leading i-mate™ devices on the Telstra network, Telstra has teamed up with i-mate™ again to release the highly acclaimed Ultimate mobile devices.

Discussing what makes i-mate™ the smarter choice, CEO and Founder of i-mate™ Mr. Jim Morrison said: “We don’t believe that one size fits all. We offer a full range of superior Windows Mobile® powered devices. We then customise these devices to suit the unique requirements of individual customers. Add to that our range of innovative and free i-Q solutions, together with our extensive support and you have an exceptional total solution that’s hard to beat.”

Powered by Windows Mobile® software, both the Ultimate 8502 and Ultimate 9502 house a very similar advanced feature set including Direct Video Out so you can connect to a digital projector or TV to run presentations and video calls, Custom i-Q so you can define your personal settings quickly and easily, and Secure i-Q to remotely lock and wipe the Ultimate device if it’s ever lost or stolen. Fine tuned to run at optimal performance on the Telstra Next G™ network - Australia’s largest mobile broadband network with speeds unsurpassed by any other national mobile network in the world - the Ultimate devices from i-mate™ are the first mobile handsets on the Next G™ network to offer high speed data uploading via HSUPA as well as high speed data downloading via HSDPA. This feature is expected to be popular with customers needing to send emails, documents, and data fast. Each Ultimate device also offers access to the full range of Telstra information and services which are now free to browse from the Home tab of BigPond mobile services. Ms. Holly Kramer, Group Managing Director, Telstra Product Management said: “We’re excited to be the first mobile operator in the world to offer these new i-mate™ Ultimate devices. “These advanced devices from i-mate™ are rated at uplink speeds of up to 7.2Mbps and downlink speeds of 1.9Mbps, making them the fastest PDAs available on the Next G™ network. “The devices were chosen for their ability to showcase the power of Telstra’s Next G™ network, the world’s largest and most advanced national 3GSM wireless broadband network,” she said.

The i-mate™ Ultimate 8502 (RRP = AUD$999) and i-mate™ Ultimate 9502 (RRP = AUD$1099) will be available from Telstra and Telstra Licensed Shops in Australia from early March 08.

I didn't really like it myself, but i'll reserve proper judgement until such time as i-mate see fit to let me have a proper go at a device (assuming they reply to my mails) :)
