I am on my second phone now (the screen cracked) and it has this sams problem and a friend also has the same problem. The green light still flashes as if it's on, but pressing the standby button does nothing. The only solution is a battery pull. It sounds like this is what you are saying is happening to yours too. I think it may be related to having a picture on the desktop. When I leave the screen as standard it does not have this porblem. I could be wrong of course.
