Power usage when used as USB modem vs a Huawei USB stick

I'm using my TYTN II as a USB modem with my laptop and noticed the power usage goes up from around .50A to around .90A when the phone is connected via USB.

If I set the phone to not charge when plugged in, it's still around .70A.

Does anyone use a Huawei 3G USB stick and know if they'd use less power?

There is a power management app included on the Thinkpad, that shows the power usage in real time.
