Omnia Combined car charger / audio out?- Solved!!!

I have seen many reviews that are unhappy with this bluetooth receiver because it makes you reconnect every time power is cycled. Can you comment on your experience with this and the Omnia? I am looking at the Sonorix C3 so that it can also be used away from the car with my battery powered speakers. Has anyone else used this model or something similar?

I have started a seperate thread about this, asking if there was a shortcut to connect to a bluetooth device, instead of going to connections - > bluetooth -> select device - > connect. Because it does get annoying to go through those steps everytime you want to pair....

Other than that, its probably the best bet. It plugs into the cigarette lighter, so you dont have to worry about charging it(unlike the sonroix c3).

Aside from the hassle of pairing, another thing is that you can hear some interferance(when the music is at a low volume) But i play my music loud most of the time, so i barely notice it.

Overall i would give it a 3.5/5.

Maybe this would work with the splitter? Has 3 rings instead of the 2 rings that seem to trigger the repeated auto dial. Just wonder if the 3.5mm part is for stereo headphones or stereo+mic headset.

Just my 2 pence, the standard mini jack is called a trs jack, tip, ring, sleeve. This is used for stereo connections as you need three different pins: left, right, ground. This one:

http://www.antonline.com/p_AETS43CSEB-STD-NX_240438.htm

looks like it has an extra ring, so three pins used for the stereo output and one for the mic connection sending a signal the other way. Hope this helps.

you can use 2 of the objects that came in the box... the data splitter and the mic/headphone jack.. thats what i use in my car... here is a picture. the splitter is in the middle. the cable plugged in on the right is the car charger. the cable plugged in the left is the mic/3.5 headphone jack... the jack goes in to the back of my stereo. when i get a call i can use the mic on there have it as a hands free device. the call comes in and they talk to me threw the car speakers and the mic on the adapter picks me up perfectly...

i love it, much better than the radio or cds or a bluetooth headset

Hi hi,

Am very very pleased with my Omnia 16gb (coming from eten x500). However have one issue/question... :)

I'm using my Omnia also as navigation device in the car (works very good with iGo8 - using tweaks found in other forums), and want to connect audio out with my car stereo. Of course that works with provided cable but then I can't connect the charger so my battery is gone within 2-3 hours. I'm doing a lot of travelling so need to have the phone on the charger all the time.

Since the Omnia only has one connection port <_< , I need a cable that includes both charger as well as audio out. Does something like that exist? Maybe from a compatible older phone from samsung?

I've considered getting a stereo bluetooth receiver but then I can't use my car bluetooth handsfree kit anymore. At least I don't think so???

Or maybe a combined usb/audio out - then I could get a special car charger with a usb connection.

Does someone have a solution or idea?

Thanks...

Your phone came with an adapter that will solve the problem. it is a short four way plug that you can plug your car charger, 2.5mm jack and usb or headphone/mike jack into.

Hi davejim,

Nope, when I bought my Omnia (august 2008) there wasn't such an adapter included. I think Samsung started to include those later (or potentially only in certain countries).

But I bought one from www.fommy.co.uk, which I've been using till recently. Now with the TMC program from Beamrider I had a new challenge.... car charger + audio out + antenna connection.

This is what solved my problem (same story as posted in TMC thread)...

For those of you, still searching for a cable that can charge, have audio out and functions as antenna here is the result of my home tweaked version.

I started with this cable: http://www.mobilefun.de/18478-erweitertes-...-i900-omnia.htm

or for the UK : http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/samsung-omnia-t...able-p18478.htm

Nice thing about this cable is that the plug at Omnia side can easily be opened. Also the little box with all connections can easily be opened as it has 4 screws if you take the sticker off.

Then you need to get you solder iron out and do a few changes:

- remove the big cable with the video out connectors (we only want audio through the 3.5 mm connector)

- with a little screwdriver or knife cut the connection on the board from connector 10 of the omnia plug (so your Omnia doesn't think anymore you have a video cable connected)

- the video cable in the omnia plug should be removed and soldered to pin 1 (antenna)

- now the omnia plug can be closed again

- on the connection box side I took the video cable (coming from the omnia plug) also of the board and soldered two wires directly to that wire (these two wires are the actual antenna - both roughly 60 cm long). You could also leave the video cable on the board and solder the antenna wires at the other end of the board. I tested a bit and a direct connection gave a better signal.

- The antenna wires are then routed through the original hole in the connection box for the video cable

- close the connection box and put the sticker back on

!!!Ready!!!

- Reception with this solution is very good. Similar or better as with standard Omnia audio out cable.

Of course you need a car charger with a mini usb plug (I still had one from a previous phone).

I have pictures of the whole operation, but haven't figured out how to add/upload those. The whole thing is not that difficult, but if you want them send me a pm.

Finally I don't have to mess around with cables anymore in the car. Just plug the adapter in and when using my Omnia as navigator (with TMC) it works and when I want to listen to my mp3 files it works as well.

Just the solution I've been looking for, could you tell me if the original microphone lead still works and the button functions to recieve and make calls.

I use my Omnia in car for listening to the radio, MP3's, Garmin xt sat nav and I have MS voice commander installed, all works great as a hands free system just need to sort the charging out, hopefully the above is the solution. I've tried the Samsung multi adapter but loose the Fm reception.

Thanks Tim-H.

It works!!! I got myself a 3 ring 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter, and it solved the "call-triggering" issue. :D

Great advice.

Could you just enhance this cable and add some wire to pin1 for the aerial? We have an in-dash monitor but it doesn't support divX so i figure video and audio out is still of some use to us. This would then make it a 4 in one cable as we have a mini-usb cable already present from the old sat-nav.

they talk to me threw the car speakers and the mic on the adapter

Mic on what adapter? I have the same setup you do, and from what I can tell the mic on the Omnia is what is picking up my voice. Is there something somewhere I should be talking into?

Also, have you been able to get this setup to trigger G-Profile or spb Suite properly by any chance? It doesn't seem to recognize it as a "car kit" or "headphones". Best I've been able to do is have it recognize the AC power.

Thanks!
