App Unlocking Question (NOT how to)

So I just recently got a BJII and have been playing with it a little, getting it set up before I totally migrate to it. I was able to install Google Maps on it (which works way better than on my V3XX, it even found my location, I assume based on cell tower??). Since I was able to install that, does it mean my phone is already app unlocked? Would it have blocked me if it was locked still?

I'm still waiting for it to "acquire satellites" so maybe the GPS still needs to be unlocked. I'm afraid of applying the MoDaCo GPS/app unlocker though if it's already unlocked, I don't want to break functionality.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
