All you need is the Phone_i900XXHI2 file, start GrandPrix 1.8, select LV Image from the dropdown box, click PHONE (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT - IF YOU PUT THE PHONE FILE IN THE PDA SECTION YOU WILL, I REPEAT, YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!!!), and browse for the Phone_i900XXHI2 file.

Leave everything else as is, then hit detect. Power off your phone (or soft reset), and GrandPrix will detect the phone. Hit 'start downloading' and sit back. Once the log bar at the top right has turned blue and says 'waiting for the bootloading process' (or something like that) and your Omnia has restarted, disconnect from PC.

Check radio version has been updated by *#1234# from the dial pad or check Version in Settings/Personal/Version - if all is well it should say XXHI2.

Grabbing it now and will try. And in the meantime will charge up the phone - was testing how long batt would last but that can wait hehe.

XXHI2 seems to get a stronger 3G and HSPDA signal. With the HI1 radio, i could only manage 3 bars on Edge in my study, now i get 2 bars of 3G loveliness!! So i guess the answer is yes.

Read post #522 or #528 - goto the link in the thread and on the first post you will find links to the file in question. As stated, it is not an .exe file so you will need GrandPrix 1.8.1 and you will only need the Phone_XXHI2 part of the download.

Finally ------- SUCCESS

updated to HI1 and HI2 phone and all is fine.

Thanks datafaker for taking the time to explain the procedure. Initially did not work, so went to another xp sp2 machine and everything went flawlessly.

Previously on ZHHH3 and since I needed the chinese SIP (hate seeing white blocks instead of proper characters - though I don' read or write Chinese but do get Chinese sms once in a while), applied a spb clone of the previous version. Hung on the first attempt, restarted and let it run again - this time worked. Then applied a backup. Phone back to what it was before the rom upgrade and the Chinese sip has returned. lol

A brief report on gps - fixes are much quicker. But the camera thing with gps on and needing to cancel is an annoyance but if it gets a fix the cancel button disappears. Will test that further. GPS fixes with IGO and Garmin were pretty speedy.

btw - thx again df for your assistance.

One strange issue that has been with me all along - fm radio, can play out the phone speaker but has never done it through the headsets. Used a couple of different ones with same result could be a dud connector ??
