Guest malikms Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Depends on your mobile habits I guess  Since you know what steps to do to reproduce the heat problem you're experiencing, you're in the position to say whether the HJ1 rom produces more/less heat. All I can is I listen to the radio/mp3 for hours and my unit can get quite hot regardless of the firmware version I'm using. well, first thing first if you read my post correctly, i haven't flash DXHJ1 yet, that's why i asked, wether it is still hot or not? ;) i'm gonna do it tomorrow anyway (flash to DXHJ1 from DXHI3), i'm just wondering, if any 1 (who has flashed their rom to DXHJ1 today) still experiencing the back heat issue. Then again, the step is not really complicated or need that long of usage at all (i.e hours of radio and mp3) to produce the heat. that's why i asked specifically when someone turn on their GPS or using the internet via 3,5G,3G,or gprs, etc (in 5 minutes or more, not hours). i'm sure others are experiencing this aswell when they first upgraded their rom form DXHI1 to DXHI3 (the return of the back heat :D ) oh well, i guess since i'm one of them, i'll give a report regarding the back heat issue after i upgrade mine from DXHI3 to DXHJ1. thanks for the respond dude (u were the only one :o ). have a good one!.. Cheers!
Guest malikms Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 DX roms are English only, right? correct, all DX's ROM are in English
Guest jonboyuk Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 My goodness, it seems like the whole Omnia world has been ripped apart for our Kitcheny goodness, I'm looking forward to seeing what's going to transpire over the coming months! Ken's regular updates are far too good! Thanks Ken. Okay 4 questions: I have gone from DX4-5, HH1 unoff, HH1, HH1 official, HI1, HI2, HI3. HI2 was the only one I did a hard reset on and it's the only rom that DIDN'T overheat. That to me suggests that a hard reset is essential. I drove to Weymouth using just GPS (about 1½ hours) and it took 90% off the battery! Rubbish. HI2 would have taken around 40%. So, it must be that then. This leads me on to my questions: 1. When flashing, do you hard reset BEFORE, or AFTER the flash, or both? 2. Must I clear the large drive? I fill it with MP3's and it means every time I have to reload them (painful) 3. Does SPB shell really knock the battery life as bad as Secany says? I love it, but if it really takes a lot of battery, I won't bother with it. 4. I do a back up with the Samsung software prior to reflash, but it just can't do the threaded text messages properly. Is there just not a hidden file on the phone that stores the texts that I can just cut and repaste with explorer, or something that does it properly? PHEW Thanks for reading  Hope you can help!!
Guest Massive Attack Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 any other improvements? i was planning to camp on my current rom HI3, cause I see no problem with it, but the screen sensitivity improvement is a great improvement to pass. with all the tweaks and improvements ive done with my omnia, i dont think i can remember it all
Guest Yunabeco Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Upgraded without problems from (FR)XHHH6/XHHH4/Ph.XXHH9 to DXHJ1/DXHJ1/Ph.DXHJ1. About time, I was getting tired of X's and H's. Downloaded the 3-parts archive on Windows Vista, extracted it, rebooted on Windows XP, and made sure nothing bad was up and running (stuff like antiviruses always kick in at the worst time). After that, I Hard Reset the old ROM and let it reboot before attempting to update. Phone recognized, clicked START, everything went smoothly. Haven't noticed improvements yet apart from the increased sensitivity (very welcomed); then again, I'm still reinstalling my programs at the time.
Guest Kendle Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Top man Secany. My phone has definitely become much improved over the last few weeks, keep up the good work.
Guest jonboyuk Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 One more fix (for me anyway). The XTRA Gps data actually downloads in 2/3 seconds, not 2/3 mins and hangs!
Guest L.P Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Successful flash here, Not had chance to fully test the latest ROM but memory as follows: Program- Free: 58.86 Total: 96.70 Storage Free: 54.93 Total: 88.66 Doesnt seem like its changed from previous for me?

Im noob in this things, after downloading the 3 files ( the DXHJ1), and extract them , whats the next step to flash? Is out there any tutorial? My phone is locked to an operator an the ROM is actually i900XCHG5/BBHG6. Appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. teixeira.vh
Guest Yunabeco Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 [snip] Words of warning first (bold, italic and dark red; I can hardly make it any more obvious). This is but how I proceeded; you might want to wait for the advice of someone wiser than me - or leave it to a professional - if you're scared to brick your Omnia. I don't know how operator-locked phones behave either, as mine was unlocked. Well, if you still want to try... First, you need to be on Windows XP, as Windows Vista cannot use the upgrade file properly (at least, not right now). Second, you need both ActiveSync and the Samsung Modem driver installed. If you don't have it already, grab ActiveSync 4.5 here. The Samsung modem driver for Windows XP can be downloaded here. To install it, extract it somewhere, browse to Setup.exe and execute it. Note that updating the ROM will wipe everything from your Omnia (except, of course, your Storage Card or SIM card). If you haven't backed up your valuable data, do so. Next, once you extracted the three-parts ROM, browse to it and open i900DXHJ1.exe. Then, connect your i900 to the PC and soft-reset it (take the stylus and plug it in the Reset button). Once the drivers are correctly detected and set up, the "START" button should become available and the i900 should stay still on the boot screen. You can also check the checkbox; this will format "My Memory". I always check it just in case. Breathe once, twice, ensure your Omnia is fully charged, and the computer updating it is plugged in the AC (if it's a laptop). Press START. Now, depending on your setup, things can go wrong, though I'm not sure why; this isn't a risk-free process. Anyway, it should load the EBOOT, the PDA rom, then will switch to the PHONE and update it (if a New Device window comes up, choose Install automatically), then will take care of everything else. When it's over, it will show Job Finished. You can leave it plugged in until it restarts. I know I had a problem when the update was switching to PHONE; the drivers were not installed in time and it timed out. I soft-reset and tried again, it worked. Some people recommend to hard-reset the device before and/or after the update, and that's what I do too (forgot to mention). To hard-reset, do a soft-reset (press the reset button with the stylus) then press and hold the Call/Left Green Phone key and the Hang up/End/Right Red phone key. You should see a screen asking you if you want to format, press the Call key to confirm or the End key to restart. If I somehow messed up somewhere, feel free to correct.
Guest X-t-r-e-m-e Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Is it still needed to update the camere like written below? After upgrade, input *#2470# with Sim card inside, it will upgrade the camera firmware too. MAKE SURE YOU LET THE PHONE RUN BEFORE TURNING OFF AT LEAST 5 MINS. I tried the number and it indeed does update the firmware of the camera, just wondering if it's needed after a flash.

If you sync your omnia w/ outlook, your contact list & calendar notes will be saved but not SMS/MMS(?). "My storage" will not be formatted unless you selected it while flashing the new rom or performed a full hard reset. I'm afraid you'll have to reinstall all your applications and redo all your settings after flashing since some info may be stored in the registry. But if you're patient enough and know where the individual program settings are stored, you can copy from your omnia to your comp or to \my storage and copy them back after updating. As for backing up your SMS/MMS I use SPB backup for that (also saves contacts, emails, etc) But when I do a restore, I only select messages/contacts as doing a full restore may overwrite some important system files.
Guest Omnia_1 Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 HJ1 is second best ROM so far. No heat issues at the back! GPS connecting no problems! Scrolling is definately smoother Battery life is 100% better! flashed last night installed all apps inc M2D, made 3 phone calls this morn and listened music 2 hours via A2DP 80% battery now after 12hrs. Thanks for the ROM Secany.
Guest lazylilsnoop Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 was wondering did they solve the clock issue? because in australia, now is day light saving. n the widget clock is 1 hr behind the actual clock.

I guess doing it doesn't hurt... but is it necessary at all?
Guest tropolite Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Hey Secany - Thanx for the upload - ur a man among men! If you are anywhere near Adelaide let me know and I'd be happy to buy you a beer or two as a small token of my appreciation and time you spend doing this for the Omnian community! Cheers (the usual disclaimer here - drink in moderation)
Guest somerz82 Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Hi peeps, i got my omnia 2 weeks ago from vodafone and for the first couple of days felt really let down by it. Was considering taking it back when stumbled upon modaco.com. Started reading and made the decision to update my rom to DXHI1, not even sure why or which rom my omnia was running beforehand, just got caught up in the excitement of being able to modify my phone to how i like it.I DEFINATELY dont want to return it now (probably cant anyway if my warranty has been voided ha ha) as i have really began to see all the positives of this remarkable pocket pc instead of the few negatives i saw to begin with (camera, unable to fully lock screen and the error403's while on internet, whatever they were?). So my question to whomever is able and willing to help is should i or shouldn't i have? And if not, what shouldnt i do next!? I mean should, what should i do next? I'm running - pda :i900DXH1/DXHI1 phone :i900BUHH2. I'm also trying out S2U2, SPB Shell and Batti-2.4 Looking forward to getting some much needed advice, yours truly Novice. PS-I LOVE THIS SITE!!! I'm downloading DXHJ1 as i type.
Guest Andy Q Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 You need to use the GrandPrix file from the sticky ROM post... P Do you have the latest GrandPrix version for download? I've seen a v1.8.1 been mentioned somewhere before.
Guest mynullvoid Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 copy your contacts to your phone, Then set 'show phone contacts only' or download the Hide_Sim_Conacts.cab or something. this has nothing to do with new roms?
