have you tried other gps enhancing programs like portsplitter or gpsproxy?

Posted
Anyone else had any better progress than me?

Not much more luck here. Even tried the latest TT I could find on the net - 7.451 (9033) and upgraded to the XXHI1 firmware, but still the same problems, just never gets a fix without GPSGate or similar programs.

Does anyone else notice that the time is wrong in TT? It starts out ok, but then jumps forward (always forward) with a couple of steps and seems to steady itself about 45 mins ahead of actual time.

Can anyone give me a definate answer on whether Tom Tom 6 works on the Omnia, the best i can get is, it installs, i select the language, then the phone goes back to today screen. I need Tom Tom for my job and am currently carrying both my Omnia and my Vario 3, it works perfectly on my Vario 3. If i cant get it to work, i think i may have to send my Omnia back and wait for the Vario 4, which i dont really want to.......

Thanks

Still having no joy with Tom Tom 6, anyone who has got it to work, could you possibly point out where im going wrong?

Otherwise its time to price up an alternative sat nav system for the Omnia which i dont want to do, as i like TT6

Thanks for any help.

I've personally been trying to get TT7 to work for what seems like forever.... No difference in firmware now on DXHI1 and still no change. Same old 5 years to find a sattelite and never a descent signal to do any navigating.

So thought id give Garmin Mobile XT a try, let me tell you simple isn't the word! Install the mobile software, add whatever maps you want/need and away you go. 4/5 bars just sitting by a window and within about 10secs of running the program too.

Just when i thought it doesn't get any better i spotted this post that lets you upgrade from version 4 to 5 for free ;) much improved interface and it can even check the status of flights arriving/departing from your local airport

Hey Guys

There is a solution on the Samsung Mobile Forumns to get TTN6 working

It works

Although only in landscape mode and you need gpsgate

Some of the text from the forum:

Hey there.

I've just managed to get TomTom v6 working on my Samsung Omnia.

Go to your settings and click on 'External GPS'. Make sure that GPS program port is set to 'com 2', hardware is set to 'com 9' and '9600' baud rate, and access is set to 'Manage GPS automatically'.

I downloaded an application called GPSGate. You can download a 14 trial version to see if it works, and then it cost me about £6 to buy.

So, install GPSGate onto you Omnia and run it. A litlle sqaure icon appears on the Today screen (at the bottom on mine). Press the icon and choose settings.

On the imput tab, choose 'com port', choose 'com 2' then 'settings'. Choose 9600 Baud rate. Click the 'Open' button if it doesn't do it automatically.

On the output tab press the drop down box at the top and choose 'Virtual Com 6 / (All NMEA......' and click 'Add'.

Click back on the input tab and there should be a green or yellow square. If it's green it means it has got a position, if it's yellow it is still looking. Red means it not active.

Go into TomTom and choose 'change preferences'. Then click on 'Show GPS status'. Click 'Configure' and then choose 'Other NMEA GPS receiver'. Set baud rate to '9600'. You should then get the option to choose which com port to use. Choose 'Franson Com 6'. Give it a few minutes and it should get a GPS signal and you're good to go.

To avoid any conflicts I always start GPSGate before I use TomTom and turn it off afterwards.

Hope this helps

i had a similar problem when I first installed it. I was trying to run it in portrait mode (holding the phone normally).

I have found that you need to turn the phone and get it into landscape mode (before you start TomTom or while it is loading) for TomTom to work.

-------------

Well I'll be!! Yes it does work but only if the mouse button is to the right. Really weird. Now I've got it working I still need to get it to find the satellites. What a frustrating program Tom Tom is.

-----------

Now I am off to TomTom to get my maps re-assigned

I have been looking for this ages - it's good to see light at the end of the tunnel at last

Maps re-assigned and all working

It only works landscape and the left 25% is repeated again on the right

Fix working fine, infact it all does.

It's version 6.02 I thing

Ask if you want any more details

I finally managed to install TomTom 7 and australia 7.25 maps - and I set it up as com 3 baud 4800 and it works great, and im inside my living room, high signal and accurate - i went for a run up the street ;)

I am not using any third party programs either!

FInally a phone that works!

PS. just restarted the phone, opened the program and locked onto signal again in about 10 seconds.

Fantastic phone - everything finally works.

Well all I can put it down to is the version of TomTom you're using (ie where you obtained it, not the version number). With someone who has it working without any third party software share it with me? This might be why.

I dont believe it is possible to have TT (7) working without a virtual portsplitter application like gpsgate etc.

I had numerous attempts at trying to get it to work and could get a lock 'sometimes' but it was never reliable enough. I installed gpsgate with a handy script (which I found on here) which automatically stops and starts gpsgate with the opening of TT. Works fine and gets a lock extremely quickly.

Have you tried Googlemaps? I discovered that googlemaps worked fine for me without gpsgate. Googlemaps would get a lock in seconds. So it must be something concerned with TT and how TT interacts with the com ports.

Helix, yes in theory that's what I'd do too. I did just do a reset and ran TomTom immediately - it locked perfectly. Tried another restart and no lock! Grr.

The reason I don't like port splitter/gps gate is they lose they drop the signal for me randomly. All perfectly fine, quick locks, but then it will drop out and take a few seconds to come back. Slightly annoying because in TomTom it loses where you are (not what you want before a junction).

Funnily enough Igo8 works perfectly, I just can't get used to it. I wonder what is going on :-/

Yes... I was wondering what this little helper would do... would it allow to use TT7 without a GPSGate kind of program? And without the hickups in reception?

I have TT v6.0 running in portrait mode with Port Splitter on the storage card.

Port Splitter takes in Com3 and routes to COM 1, 9600 and the default GPS settings in Omnia

I need to run Port splitter first and then close afterwards other wise the machine gets warm and the battery starts to drop.

Get a signal pretty fast and good signal signal all bars bar one. after a soft reset it takes a bit longer to get a lock. This morning I could not get a lock and using a Royaltek GPS demo as my signal tester, jut two bars, yet I was going at about 150mph some how, a quick soft reset and all was well again.

Royaltek can be downloaded here, I think its the same as mine...

http://www.ppccool.com/index.php?showtopic...mode=linearplus

The screen updates slowly ( as does windows media player playing videos)

I can get a signal on TT without PS(com 3) but the signal seems to be frozen and no updating.
