Guest gavzter Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 would be interesting to know if William does get back to you. I haven't had this issue since flashing to HI1. From what we know, it's very very random as to what causes the Omnia's BSOD. Now isolated to device.exe (at least on your's) but something or somethings must trigger device.exe to go nuts? <_< oh, and peanuts taste of crap, chicken tastes like whatever sauce you put on it ;) Gavin
Guest stuzathegreat Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 "William" didn't phone me back but I did speak to Micheal and he gave me lots of info but was unable to help specificaly with our black screen of death issue. Anyway, check this thread for more info.

Guest James(UK) Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 (edited) Update !! I have found two functions which definately cause this problem... 1 - The Ettiquette Mode, switching this on causes my to crash regularly 2 - Wi-Fi...Switching this on MAY cause it to crash. I've had the phone 8 weeks and until I started using these functions I never got the crash... So if you don't need wi-fi ( I have a 3GB data allowance over HSPDA ) then switch off ettiquette and all will be ok. about time Samsung got a patch/fix/update for this . Guest FarleyCZ Posted October 12, 2008 Report Posted October 12, 2008 (edited) Hi guys. I'll get Omnia for my 18th birthday and ... Im reading this topic. :-D Ironic. So, there are, I think, some programmers. It could be easy. Just write application which restart device.exe or whole phone when CPU is took up so much. :-) Edited October 12, 2008 by FarleyCZ
Guest Feet Maestro Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) I rarely get the blank screen of death from the phone just not waking up but from impact on my table, i set my phone down and it turns off!!! Is there a protection mechanism in it to switch off on heavy impact? I thought the onboard memory was solid state, i dunno but its so annoying, its not like im throwing it from a great height. Try it out for me please see if im not the only one, literally bout 3cm from solid surface and itll turn off!!! GRRR! Edited October 13, 2008 by Feet Maestro
Guest RodolfoG Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 I rarely get the blank screen of death from the phone just not waking up but from impact on my table, i set my phone down and it turns off!!! Is there a protection mechanism in it to switch off on heavy impact? I thought the onboard memory was solid state, i dunno but its so annoying, its not like im throwing it from a great height. Try it out for me please see if im not the only one, literally bout 3cm from solid surface and itll turn off!!! GRRR! Today for me was the dreaded 1st time I dropped my Omnia (have had it a couple of weeks)... from about a height of two feet it fell directly on a tile floor... nothing happened... it didn't shut off nor stop working. I though it was cool, as my last SE phone, every time I dropped it, it did a reset... On the BSOD subject, I randomly get it once in a while (have GXHI2 rom, SPB Mobile Shell + S2U2 and to "soft reset" I actually must take the battery off the phone as it doesn't respond to anything else)... I recently installed Paul's OmniaSIP and things got worst because the SIPset.exe file ket randomly crashing apparently when S2U2 was on suspend mode... I sometimes got the BSOD and sometimes was able to see the CF message saying that the executable had made an exception... Since uninstalling OmniaSIP yesterday I have only gotten the BSOD only once and after the soft reset I haven't got it again... Btw I do have Wifi power save off as it actually makes Wifi painfully slow if its on... I'm getting tired of SPB Shell confilcting with S2U2 regarding the Now screen (it pops up randomly and I want it never to appear), so when GXHJ1 comes out I'll try Winterface instead as I see it does have a Slide 2 Unlock function integrated... Lets see if the GXHJ1 + Winterface combo doesn't make the BSOD come back!!
Guest FarleyCZ Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 (edited) So, local programers, write a watchdog! :-) Application wich would be monitoring how much CPU Device.exe takes and if it will go over 90% just restart the phone! :-) Similar mechanisms are on SonyEricsson phones. That's the reason why they restart when falls to the floor. :-D Just a little monitoring program which would be monitoring Device.exe and restarting phone. :-) Edited October 15, 2008 by FarleyCZ
Guest saznpins Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Has anyone using J1 had the BSOD? Trying to decide if I should flash it and install all my programs again... If there is a fix in there it would be worth it  Otherwise I'll probably wait.
Guest longbrian Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 I also face problem with BSOD when i am using WIFI turn by uncheck wifi power saving. switch ON ettiquette may not the couse for real i think. So first of all you guys should try with check wifi power saving. All the problem with WIFI still running during your phone on sleep mode. It's not death actually. It's runing by the phone window not work only cell phone service. I tried to call then phone not ring anything but i can heard my call are in and wait for answer. So, my experience with BSOD was WIFI RUNNING IN SLEEP MODE IS THE COUSE. Just ckeck power saving on WIFI that all. Go to Setting>System>Power>Scroll to the end of tape WIFI>Check on "Enable Wi-Fi power-saving mode". I believe your hope will no more stupid Sumsunge Blank Screen of Death anymore. "switch off ettiquette" can happen in small case when you roll your mode in very small chance your phone on sleep mode only. So dot care much about this. Thank :excl: :excl: :excl: Cambodia, Angkor Temple. Brian
Guest Nick Le Lievre Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) I had the Standby of Death SOD this is when the phone fails to come out of standby with a power button press. This issue only affects some people on some networks. I'm not sure if its a network problem or a software problem but as only a minority of people have it, I suspect its mainly a network problem there is a software solution. The solution is to change the phone settings band option from auto 3G/2G to either 3G Only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) or 2G Only (GSM + AUTO) depending on your requirements. Also read this thread New Sim solves problem where the resolution was to get a new SIM. Obviously this only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset. Guest compujas Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I just started having this problem with my i910. I shut my transmitters off (flight mode) during the day while at work because I get no signal, and at the end of the day I turn it back on. Once in a while though I have this problem where it is very slow to respond to the power on button to come out of standby. However, to complicate the problem further, my touchscreen doesn't work while this is happening, so I can't do anything without using the mouse. If I power off and back on sometimes it will start working again and sometimes not. Any new ideas?
Guest badtrip Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 So i'm not the only one who has a problem with this power issues.. Guys i'm really sorry for you as i am for myself. Do we really have the knowledge what messes out omnias? My problem is, when i connet my omnia to powerline or a usb cable, if i press the power button on the top first the led in it goes green-red-green red (intresting right?) And then, DIES !!! Soft reset wont work, no buttons work, until i unplug the battery and replug it. Actually, now the powersave mode is on! I'm trying to turn it off now, "Yep it dies again" but this time with no red-green flashing.. I'm using pocketshield, i discovered that while pocketshield is installed, and the screen should be locked by PS, the phone NEVER DIES ! Some one please find a solution. Hardware problem or normal, what it that? I have no explanation for this. And i think that the guarantee service wont have either. They would do the same thing that they do ever.. Flashing original rom that really SUCKS.. Just Help ...
