Updated from dutch HH9 to HJ1, no problems except for me forgetting to install the samsung modem driver at first (frankly I blame samsung, as it's not readily available on their software update page).

Googled the modem driver, installed, restarted the flasher, and worked like a charm.

I'm noticing the touchscreen is working a lot better, the gps seems to work better (but I also installed GPSGate recently so that may be it too), and the battery life seems quite a bit better (it was appaling on HH9, wouldn't last for more then 24 hours even without using anything draining). Despite being Dutch myself I hate the often badly translated dutch program interfaces (although admittedly it wasnt too bad on the omnia) so I'm happy to have an english version now.

P.S. I should add that I did have to install a dualboot XP before being able to flash, samsung should really release a stable vista flasher.

Orange Omnia - G5 to HJ1 update attempt.

Result: Bricked. Black screen, no leds, no nothing.

Updater reported Done OK.

Very disappointing.

A lot of people bricking their phones seem to have an orange phone. This was my second orange phone, the second to be bricked, using two different PCs, two different firmwares.

Perhaps I was unlucky, perhaps not.

Trip to the service center this afternoon.

I've got an Orange Omnia with the XG5 firmware, updated this morning to HJ1 and it went ok. Both phone and pda show up as DXHJ1.

Haha i have my first time rom success. Now i have HJ1 on my phone.

My home Desktop fail me many time and now i confirm most of ppl failing is due to samsung modem driver legacy usb too choossy.

My phone was on G4 when buy . Try to upgrade to official HH3 rom but fail on part 4 writting image to phone and bootup nomore phone function accept WM6. Go SC to reflash got HH3 but battery life suck. Try luck again yesterday to HJ1 rom , say to be better but again same fail on part 4 write image 0%. Retry many time still same.Try others rom version same. Follow all what ever firewall, antivirus or what still same. Try to disconnect all others USB device on mine, ext hardisk, dig cam dodge, wireless mouse+keyboard accept usb mouse . Then can see my first time part 4 writing image move but unfortunetly stop on 14% max everytime. This make me to suspect usb on my desktop not good for samsung cdma modem. So bring to my company and flash on my office PC, hooray part 4 writing image successful 100 and job done. To confrim this, i have try my office 4 more pc, only 1 pc failing. Try use my compaq laptop also job done.

This make me think usb on PC usb port or others gadget driver must be conflict with samsung modem. Anyway now i happy can change what ever rom i want. By the way, HJ1 battery life really good. Until now still 24 hrs still have 70%.If HH3 all flat lioa.

Me too. I had Orange BV HH1 firmware. The process seemed to go through fine, all the way to 'job done' then nothing - just red led. Tried removing battery, resetting, leaving it for ages ... nothing. I certainly won't risk it again, unless someone can say where I went wrong (all instructions faithfully followed...)

After updated to HJ1

+ Touchscreen more responsive

+ Faster menu

- Battery drain very fast on 3.5G, WIFI (from full level after recharged for flashing purpose, played with the phone GPS , camera, youtube extensively , in 2 hours battery low notification.

- Geotagging ON, camera takes forever to load ("Loading...) - know this problem since HI1, I2, now J1 still. i suggest get that part from HH1 and put in HJ1

- Garmin taking so slow to lock and show map location

- After re-backup free storage become very low 4-10mb

So i restored my Omnia back to HH1 where these good features retain:-

+ Geotagging ON, camera still can load and not status "Loading..." and the satelite logo is inactive waiting to lock and still can use the camera. Yes with Longitute, latitute and Altitute working fine.

+ memory storage 115.48MB, use 35.48MB, free 80MB

+ memory program 96.71MB, in use 36.2140MB , free 60.5MB

+ i like my youtube playing in Window Media Player (it strethes to widescreen automatically)

+ Garmin mobile XT very fast on HH1, the moment i click GO, immediately map appear showing my location, 3 seconds later the voice navigator will tell me which route to take.

I think Secany should keep those good features of HH1 as metioned in the next ROM by doing the below

1. improve the battery like G4

2. improve the screen responsiveness like J1

3. improve RAM and free the ROM by deleting useless and redundant applications in the ROM like:-

-a. Streaming Player (redundant!, WIndow Media Player can stream and play Youtube too and in full widescreen),

-b. Digital frame (useless),

-c. Googlemaps (better install Google Navigator 4++)

-d. Google launcher

-e. SimTKUI (for what?)

-f. Touch player (no need, Window media player can handle more format even better with Core player)

-g. Opera mobile (useless without flashlite3.1 support), Skyfire already working in HTC devices

-h. Make few Apps in the ROM removable like help, getting started, opera mobile, windowlive, touchplayer, calculator, media album, photoslides (useless), SHozu (if we can directly upload to youtube, why we need Shozu?)

-i. Remove Samsung Today 1 and 2, and those stupid Samsung widgets and the whole unproductive widget interface.

4. Just Make flashlite3.1 works everywhere, so we can have nice flash theme infront, watching youtube, porntube xtube, daily motion, etc natively. Once these flv playing in the phone, the file (flv) are already in the phone, and we can play it in other time with no more hassle convert this and that.

5. Improve camera LED, to stay bright (not dim to half) when video recording

6. Improve video framerate to 30fps (Omnia can record 120fps in QVGA, so whats a problem capturing 30fps?)

7. Improve the USB charging for any USB port, PC, wall, car etc

I think al the above discrepancies are firmware related and not hardware.

any update on the battery?

I flashed mine yesterday brand new from Vodafone... there are a few improvements all be it pretty minor, the most important thing was to get rid of the Vodafone software. Strangely enough my battery hasnt improved infact probably slightly worse actually. i havent used any of the apps on the phone, like Wifi or bluetooth or the players etc, only used to make and receive about 25 calls.

Does anybody have an idea if something more has to be done?

i just download it and intalled it and it works perfect!! battery life is awesome!! works more quickly than hh1 for me this is the best rom xD

Right.. gave it another go after my last post. battery life has improved substanially but you need to remember to switch of wifi when not using it, battery life seems to shorten drastically when the wifi is turned on and it searches for networks periodically, having switched it off and using it for nearly 45 minutes today, i still have 4 bars on the battery after 48 hours, which is simply awseome..

i was on the verge of returning this due to the poor battery life, but now tempted to keep it as the rest of the phone seems brilliant.
