If I remember correctly, I think I had XP installed on a separate partition, when I did my first flash from HG3. It was after that I flashed via WMWare.

Can you install XP onto a separate partition?

Do you mean you have it installed on a separate partition in VMWare? How do i set that up?

No, I had installed XP on a separate partition on my computers hard drive, which was required to run some software I had; once I had acquired VMWare, I no longer needed that partition. But as I said I think my initial flash was on that installation.

Couldn't you create a new partition on your drive and install XP on it.

If you decide to do this, be aware that you will have to run your vista disc to repair your vista startup files; do a google search on dual boot vista and XP.

The computer i use for now is also my work computer so i am not try to do anything with creating another partition( I dont really have any space left on here anyway). Its either VMWare or nothing at all.

But like i said,i give up. This is just too stressful and ive wasted enough time.

UPDATE:

I was finally able to install the rom.

I had to use a laptop with xp on it, VMWare just wasnt working for me.

So my advice to anyone who receives this error is to use a machine with a xp operating system already on it for best results.

I flashed my Omnia with WIN XP running inside VMWare.

I flashed from XXHH9 to DXHJ1 with no prob.

Hi I have flashed about 5 times now using VMware and have not had any issues.

I run VMware workstation 6 with xp pro in a windowed vm. Activesync 4.5 is installed but for flashing you need to disable usb connections on activesync. Activesync is used for copying files and installing programs but not for flashing.

The Samsung modem software needs to be installed then once you connect the Omnia to the usb you need to make sure the USB port is connected to the VM by using the menu > VM > Removable Devices > USB devices > ( here make sure the samsung modem is ticked.)

The Samsung modem will only show up just after the Omnia is restarted so you need to be on the ball the first time to make sure you assign it to the VM and not your host OS. (vista, linux etc) Its best to do this before you try the flashing exe to make sure the connection will be available. Also make sure you are using the VM and not a window on the host OS. Whilst you are using the VM it should default to connect new devices to VMware and not the host.

You can check this will happen by using VM > Settings > USB controller and making sure the two boxes on the right are enabled (Enable highspeed support and Auto connect new USB devices when VM has focus) If for some reason the VM does not have a usb controller listed click the Add button to put one in. ( in which case this was your problem)

It best whilst flashing to keep the VM in focus ( ie keep the cursor inside the VM and its title bar activated, to prevent problems with the host OS picking up the USB connection.

Once you are happy the Omnia gets picked up as a modem after a soft reset you can go ahead and flash using one of the EXE - I have never used grandprix as it seems more prone to problems. Once the exe is started reset you phone whilst plugged into the usb and the Flash EXE should pick it up fine. If you had lots of stuff in My Storage you may want to tik to format this just to keep the file structure neat. I have flashed official roms and the Modaco and Passoa Roms. I am currently using the Passoa lite rom and its just the job so far.

Once the first phase (PDA) of the flash is complete the Omnia will restart and the 2nd phase will commence (Phone) Watch out here as when it restarts the Omnia may appear as a different port in the USB devices so again be quick on the balll to make sure its in the removable devices and is ticked. After that its all plain sailing. Dont remove until the EXE tells you the phone is done. Then I suggest you also hard reset the phone to be on the safe side.

The only issue I have had using this process is I once had the Phone section of the flash fail ( could not find port) But this was due to not keeping an eye on it and noticing the modem port had changed an was not connected. I just reflashed and all was well.

Hope this helps. Please feedback your findings. If anyone else has a better way please post and perhaps we can come up with the definitive How to for VMware.

i'm also was having no pda found and with this recomendations all perfect. THANKS SKULLSTER!!
