Guest Adrynalyne Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 So I guess I'll be reviving this thread. For those that have changed the Click and UpDown registry change - have you experimented with the values? Does increasing or decreasing make sensitivity better? IMHO - I think lowering the values for each makes the sensitivity better. Still playing with them.
Guest Adrynalyne Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Ok, here are my thoughts on updown and click. I adjusted each with the "improved" values. Didn't notice much, if anything. I adjusted each separately with extremely low values: 50 for updown, and 200 for click. Once again, didn't notice much of anything, EXCEPT when adjusting updown, it changed the speed up the little arrow slider thing in Programs. It made it extremely fast, almost too fast to use. Obviously I went through numerous soft resets betwen tests. So my thoughts? Click doesn't do crap. Updown adjusts the speed that the slider works in Samsung apps. Lower seems better. Otherwise, they don't do diddly, imo.

Ccurrently I have my UpDown set to 250. Unfortunately, we don't have any values to set for "pressure" like the htc devices.
Guest lantony Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 hi lantony :( wellcome :P you don't like I.S.?!:D A.C. B) ehehe toh chi si rivede :P yeah i do like the protection of the Invisible Shield, what i really hate is the eccessive grip especially on the touchscreen where under some conditions is quite difficult to operate a finger gesture :S Is there any other alternative to the Zagg? Cheers !
Guest mnakaie Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Use a Brando Screen Protector instead Zagg, keep Zag all over the body but screen. Its really nice, Brando's has no grip and has a really good protection
Guest CO-Diver Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Ok, here are my thoughts on updown and click. [edit]... Click doesn't do crap. Updown adjusts the speed that the slider works in Samsung apps. Lower seems better. Otherwise, they don't do diddly, imo. When I changed the Click to 2000, I had to press harder on the screen to get it to accept anything. My 'simple' test at the various settings for Click was touching in between the Phone and Main Menu locations at the bottom of the Today screen; then sweeping my finger upwards to launch the Task Manager. Using a setting of 2000 for Click, I couldn't get the Task Manager to launch, no matter how hard I pressed on the screen. Using a setting of 1250 for Click allows me to launch the Task Manager rather easily from the Today screen. I like the 750 setting for UpDown. But obviously your mileage varies...

Guest Magpie2000k Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 When I change my values and do soft reset the old values come back any ideas why?
Guest Adrynalyne Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 When I change my values and do soft reset the old values come back any ideas why? You are soft resetting too early. You must give time for the registry changes to commit. Usually ~20 seconds is sufficient, but I have had it take up to a minute on some things.

Guest susankeb Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Ok guys, I've written a similar topic on our local Polish forum and everyone seems to be very fond of my very simple yet very effective solution.... Some of you might have experienced problems with screen accuaracy and sensivity in Omnia. I've seen seen ppl (including myself) complaining that Omnia's screen is very insesitive and inaccurate ... and I have found the culprit B) . Most of these problems are due to bad screen calibration. This issue is related to Omnia only and with other devices it does not exist (at least with the ones I've had so far). Omnia's touch screen is covered with and extra layer that is soupoused to protect the screen. This in turn causes makes that the touch layer is about 1 or 2 mm away from the layer that you actually touch with the stylus. This little fact causes that when you change the angle at which you look at the screen, you shift your perspective and you might tap exactly the same spot but from a different angle it will seems as another spot on the touch layer. In turn, most of us badly calibrated the device and therefore the screen seemed as less sensitive and inaccurate... In order to fix it, you have to calibrate the screen properly... This is very simple when you take all these factors into account. You just have to look at the screen properly from the distance. Here is what you have to do: 1. Put the phone on the table so it is paralel to the ground (just do it) 2. Get your eyes above the screen but from a distance at 30-40 cm (this is very important) 3. Enter screen alignment menu 4. Use some sharp object to calibrate and not the stylus 5. Calibrate That's it. You will be suprised how this little trick will get your screen to behave better :( .

Guest ssyed Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 Okay, I know this thread is old but I have finally solved this issue. I've been trying to increase the sensitivity on my omnia ever since I got it (1 Year). Changed registrys, calibrated it a million times, tried everything posted in this thread, did everything possible but never any result. Always had to use the finger nail to touch something. After getting sick and tired of it, I decided to replace my digitizer (the screen part that senses the touch) So i bought the digitizer from ebay for about $25 cad. replaced it in 30 mins and now the screen is super responsive. I could compare the touch response of the omnia to an iphone, (im not talking about multi touch, just the touch response).  Honestly, its really simple to replace the screen, if you can do it, do it and you will never have to use ur finger nail again ever! I am so excited right now that I dont think I will stop touching my phone lol!
Guest Omega Ra Posted April 8, 2009 Report Posted April 8, 2009 ***** Notice ***** I know that our screens and makeups of our phones may end up being slightly different from phone to phone - finger to finger - typing styles - etc. -- so give this a go to see if it works for you - as well as it did for me! ok - thats out of the way - so after seeing some of the posted results of the calibration test - I decide to take a technical stands on the results that were found but - also what results would be "perfect" in said test. With my phone being pretty stinkin' new - I figure "ideal" results of this test wouldn't be too far off the marker!... some result I read that were found in the registry: 519,503 177,881 182,129 847,127 849,872 516,512 164,887 165,134 848,131 815,885 when i compared my numbers to these - they were all very close - in between - give or take some -- so -- I rocked the test again - and if my eyes and mind don't trick me - in pairs - the points on all outside points will share a X point - and in pairs of them - we will see the same Y points. the first point being the middle - and judging by those numbers - compared to my own - the middle point -- remember, ideally: is 500,500 - being the middle spot of the screen. the next two I sorted from the two different point on each side of the screen - looking at it sideways: * * * * * knowing this - I knew that the points on the bottom end would share a Y position - being the same number - the same applying to the top points. Also - spliting the screen in two, vertically, the points on the left and right were going to have a common X position - so - comparing these numbers and trying out a few positions and typing an email - heres what I believe to be the ideal results for this test -- listing it as it would show in the registry: 500,500 165,875 165,125 835,125 835,875 has been working like a dream - even the samsung keyboard is awesome now! Hope this helps some of you out there! I have used your settings and they seem to work well. I was able to use the small keys on the samsung keyboard and the fingerboard 2.1 (both portrait) and there were minimal errors.

Guest GodsGift Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 give us more info about this. there is a whole thread about this somewhere. It does seem that the new screens are excellent, I'm just reluctant to crack open my baby. ssyed - you say you did it in half hour. was it easy? tools etc .. GG
Guest Yunabeco Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 Received my digitizer two days ago from wholesaleandy @ ebay, installed it in about 30/45 minutes, and now I'm very happy. Came with a slide tool and a very small screwdriver. I had to use some strength to unscrew the device. The slide tool won't be big enough to take out the digitizer itself (which is glued to the screen), you'll have to use, like, a credit card.
Guest ssyed Posted April 16, 2009 Report Posted April 16, 2009 One thing I wanna clear up is that, the part you have to replace is NOT the screen, its the digitizer. Digitizer is the part that senses the touch. This is the same part that you touch on your phone. The actual screen is under this digitizer part. All you have to do is replace the digitizer. Trust me, i was extremely reluctant on replacing this because I did not want to open my phone up. Thus, I was convincing myself to live with the problem and also thinking that Prolly its not the screen that has the problem, its just the alignment.  After fighting with myself for nearly 2-3 months and getting sick and tired of the screen I decided to purchase the digitizer from ebay. I purchased it from the seller "overstock888". Actually lemme paste the link, lol. http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=190296508113 You will find that, the picture they have displayed of the part is diff. than your phone. I know the front side of the digitizer is black in the picture, but its not actually black, it was exactly the same color as the original one. It llooked no different at all. ( it even had samsung written on it). After installing it, i gotta say it was most def worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never use my fingernail anymore, just a simple light thumb touch, the way a touch screen should be :excl: Before replacing my screen, I've complained on many other topics that the omnia sucks, to be honest, now i love it cuz the screen is just so touchable lol. I've used many touchscreen phones before this and none of them were as good, believe me you want to replace the digitizer! Okay so how do u actually do it and what do you need? all you will be needing is a small philips screw driver. To open up the phone there r about 6 screws (i think, kinda forgot exact amount of screws).  Oh and I think credit card will be perfect to detach the digitizer from the screen. (i just used the screw driver, VERY CAREFULLY) First what you do is unscrew the 4 small screws that are in the back. after unscrewing them, you will notice that the phone doesnt open. It doesnt cuz there r 2 other screws behind the black frame. DO NOT FORCE and do not pull the shiny/metal side. if u do, u u will break it. (these 2 screws are placed on the sides of the frame u can kinda see them on the sides in the battery compartment) After removing the 4 screws what you need to do next is pull out the back part of the phone (the black part or white if u have the white version) the easiest way to do this is by lifting the back part from the sim card compartment using a flat screw driver. After u lift the back black piece u will see the 2 screws i was talking about, after unscrewing them the shiny part (front shiny grill) will fall out. Your next task is to unplug the screen from the phone. I think you will have to unscrew the mother board from the sides to take out the plug for the screen. You might also have to unplug the wireless card cable (this is a black cable with a golden round connector) after u have the screen unplugged, you now need to try to take the digitizer out of the screen (this is the part where u have to be most careful becaused its stuck together, dont worry your new digitizer comes with the glue/sticky so it can be joint again) As suggested above using a credit card might be the best way about it. You might have to use a little bit of ur force for this one. Try to go arund the side by poking the card in and forcing out the digitizer. whatever u do, MAKE SUREEEEE u do not damage the internal screen. Just because I did this in 30 mins doesnt mean you have to rush, take your time, take as much time as u need in doing this part, it is the most crucial part. So after having it out put ur new digitizer in (there r gaps/grooves made to ensure a perfect fit. so try your best to allign the new digitizer within the grooves. (make sure to do it right the first time because i dont think it will stick as good if u force it out and try to stick it back in again.) oh before u stick the new digitizer in, make sure to clean ur screen/digitizer and have no dust particles inside, i used a microfiber cloth for this. After having the digitizer perfectly on top of the screen, lol take a break. After ur break, put everything back in together and that shud be the easiest part. OH dont forget to plug ur screen in and ur wireless cable lol. Also, in trying to open the phone, you can view this link below, it might help  u open the phone, but its in another language so good luck trying to understand it. http://www.pdamobiz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=200610&PN=1 Now, turn ur phone back on and say goodbye to the painful digitizer. Oh btw, with the old digitizer u might find satisfaction in ripping it apart. Did u know, u can actually rip it out into 3 pieces. lol trust me, i did it! Also, I poked it, cut it into pieces, and then threw it in the garbage. I gotta say, doing  justice to the old digitizer was fun, i know this sounds crazy, but u shud def. try it. If any questions, send  me mail, cuz i dont think i will need to be in this topic anymore :excl: btw, i do not take responsibility if u break ur phone :excl:. This is just a friendly guide based on how I replaced mine.

Guest Rednose5 Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Funny thing that is a thread being started about a sensitivity problem and we all end up buying new touchy screens at ebay. :excl: And I didn't even realise I've been so insensitive since I bought my Omnia. Must be because I'm dutch and since there have been questions on how people align their screens. In Holland we Smoke a joint :excl: , then go get drunk :excl: and when we have to take a leak we put the omnia in the toilet p.ss on the target and voila the screen is very well alligned :excl: FYI I'm a very happy Omnia user, just got a bad sense of humor ;) Seriously, I've been surprised about the idea of a better screen because I really do not have a problem with allignement or sensitivity etc... And I've had mine since september, vodafone branded no light sensor visible and I do use a Brando screenprotector.
Guest Rednose5 Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 (edited) FYI I use a Brando screenprotector which I bought on ebay. This one is very good, when applied correctly you don't see it and you will not feel a difference using your Omnia. :excl: I could have editted my last post, sorry. Edited April 23, 2009 by Rednose5
