Guest samjuan Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Well, I wish there is someway to try the device for about a week or two, and then we decide to buy it! well, WM7? ahh, imagine microsoft develop a totally new operating system with totally new functions and feature! ahh new bugs and loads of nightmare! anyway, after the hard-reset and 26 hours had passed and only one problem that didn't need a soft-reset, bluetooth headset won't connect after it got disconnected, however after few hours, it connected "had to delete the headset and pair it again".
Guest samjuan Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Ok, just to update, I have hardreset as you might know, and 2Days 15Hours and 47Minutes has passed since the last soft reset, and the device went nuts again: 1. I received a call, so the device vibrates silently "although it was set on RING", and hung "couldn't receive the call although it was vibrating, actually couldn't do anything as it was vibrating", didn't restart the device, and kept it as it is "in its hung weird state" , after about 10 minutes, it was back to normal, however the call that was received was not registered anywhere! 2. The "My Storage" disappeared again, cannot be accessed and all applications and ringtones installed on it "naturally" cannot be accessed. 3. The "clicking Flick" scroll is gone, for example, if you go to massages, and try to flick the emails, it will choose the email you first hit, in messages, it will highlight the text you try to flick scroll instead. 4. Vibration feedback is gone from some applications, like Main Menu, Samsung Launcher, Opera... however it is still there for the keyboard, and it vibrate if I put it on Vibrate mode. 5. JUST NOW AS I WRITE this post, I have quit all applications from the launcher, including messaging, and now I cannot open the messaging application again, and I don't receive emails, SMS/MMS anymore. I am on i900DXHK1, applications installed: 1. Bredita B_Uptime "non-system application, to know how long it can stay up" 2. VXUtil "Network Engineer" 3. Garmin Mobile XT 4. MSDict "Dictionary" 5. Resco Explorer with the registry add-in 6. Vicsoft CurrencyConv 7. Vicsoft mToday 8. VITO Weather all of them are non-system - non-service applications, and non was running when this happened. Please if there is someone out there who is experiencing the same symptoms, let me know how did you solve them. Thanks.
Guest mobilehappy Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 (edited) I am now using Secany's version of DXHK1 without any problems, but others have reported that DXHK2 is more stable. I did use HK2 , but switched back to HK1 since it seem a bit faster than HK2, both worked without problems. The other HK1 floating around this forum/web i have not tried so i cant say if its ok or not. Other than this you might also consider using the official HJ1 available at the Samsung site instead. Some tips. In Opera write in config in the address bar and in the config go to user preferences and set the cache4 directory outside of the main memory. Also install and use MemMaid . You can then use it clean out the memory, notifications, custom defined folders and registry at regular intervals. It can also be used to optimize the speed of your device ++++ Edited November 30, 2008 by mobilehappy

It can also be used to optimize the speed of your device ++++ You see, that's the thing, I don't want to install any memmaid or SKtools or anything! I just want a stable phone out of the box... I am not running windows 95 or something am I? In anycase, anything that can be configured to be on the storage is there, opera, messaging, applications... however this happens to me always. I am taking it to the service center today, I will not leave unless they give me a new one, this is my fourth visit with the same problems!!!
Guest lupus_hegemonia Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Hi, I know many of you will be emotional and non realistic about this, however, I think I had it with this device! it took many MANY days of my life just trying to figure out workarounds for its flaws! major fatal issues had contributed to it, no need to mention all the flows, just take a quick look at this forum and you will see! I was one of the first who had a WM device, starting with the 2003, then I had it with WM, so I changed, then WM5 was announced, I was tempted, got it, then again I was frustrated, so I let go and moved on, then the Omnia got announced, I looked and searched, and really searched about it, and finally I got it, but since the day I got it, never a day passed without going through its problems!!! Black-screen of death, My Storage Dismount, Battery life, total hang/reset whole needed!, lack of multi-language support, very poor multimedia player, very low sensitive touch screen (compared to other WM devices of course!), very bad sound quality (what are you saying? repeat that again? come again!...), very poor built quality "very scratch prone to the smallest things", 16GB?? never been able to use it properly - 10GB of music? cannot import it to touch player! - programs to be installed on the 16GB? ahh please... I am not really asking for much, my configuration is as follows: 1. Email: 1 exchange account, 1 hotmail account, 1 pop account and 1 imap account 2. S2U2 for full screen receiving calls and screen lock 3. other non system programs "dictionary, coreplayer..." 4. .NETCF3.5 If you want to argue, yes this device is the perfect toy... you can play around with it to the limits, reflash million times, install applications, hard reset whenever you feel like, experiment on it, develop on it... play games on it "I doubt it would be that fun though"... and so on, but reliable? can I really depend on it in a normal day to day business tasks and environment? well WM is for business I know, but I can sacrifice functionality for the sake of stability, it really feels like a Win95/98/me PC, and trust me, there will be a day where Samsung will stop enhancing and fixing this phone, while still it is flawed, because they now have a bigger fish to fry! and expect this day to be very soon... Look at the i780, it still has WM6.0! although Microsoft said devices can upgrade, however it still has WM6.0, oh, yeah and upgrading alone is another story... The sad thing is that this thing cost me an arm and a leg! so I am totally lost... Sorry for the long repeated(many times) post, but I just have nothing to do except write here on this great forum, which is the best thing I got back from this Omnia, however even the man himself is changing after less than 3 months... ahh well... Honestly my friend... ALL these things you wrote, are EXACTLY the opposite in my case (since I've "flashed" a "cooked" rom, of course) and EXACTLY why I like Omnia... Obviously, you was unlucky with your own phone, sorry for that...
Guest cac2us Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Well I also feel for the OP, I have had my i910 for about 1 month now and I have allready learned the finer pionts of the art of cooking.. After using the HTC 6700, 6800, 6900, and now the i910, I realy like the i910 the most. And with all the new "Rollups" being released lately, there is a language pack for most of the ones that I can tell.. And with the kitchen I use (osKitchen New UI V1.15), I can convert most cab files to EXT and coock them in.. I know it seems that most of the time Hardware manufacturers don't work well with the Software developers. And then there's the Service provider, who doesn't want to have to pay their techs to help the end user configure all those settings for apps that can just be locked out of the software. But hey, that's where WE THE END USERS come into play. I'm sure the things discussed in these forums are being seen by enough people that we should have the very best PDA/COMM device, but it's all about marketing. It would be nice if the overseer would bless me with a new PipBoy 3000 model A3. But until then, I will have to build my own... Now where did I put those spare water chip parts?

It costs less than a good screen protector and will definitely make you reconsider getting a half-made android these days  Seriously - since I replaced mine I wouldn't trade the Omnia for anything less than an Iphone with a front cam and multitasking! :( P.S. there's already a WP7 skin with most of the functionality available..I'm sure the Omnia will run some WP7 rom smoothly as soon as the first official leaks out! P.S.S I'd go every time for a Marvel/Intel CPU instead of the crappy Qualcoms, that even lack proper graphic drivers from HTC on top... 600 is more than 1000 sometimes :D Edited March 9, 2010 by DLCI

I press one time on the unlock symbol the message symbol appears. After that when I slide the message symbol to right/left the message screen sometimes doesn´t appear and the phone stucks on homescreen  I can´t go into start menu or in messages. I can only scroll down and up on homescreen (titanum) This problem seems to be unsolveable xD I flashed my phone about 1000 times, did hardresets but it didn´t help. I always have to make a soft reset via stylus or taking out the battery and putting it in <_<

I can recommend the latest S2U2 - with most of the options disabled it works like a charm and shows more appointments/events than the standard lock screen (some power options, lock in call, events preview, volume ctrl, etc. don't work correctly on omnia). if you disable the haptic feedback it's blazingly fast piece of sw

BUT, i didn't find my replacement yet. on every phone i find something that breaks the deal. i thought about HD2 a long time. but it's expensive and it doesn't have and Amoled screen...since i saw it on omniaII, my next phone wont be without. i also considered nexus one but it seems to have some hardware mistakes... this also stands for omniaII+the slowness so, after almost 2 years, omnia still doesn't have that "all in one" good replacement. let's se what WP7 brings us. ....damn i'm boring xD

Guest claus1953 Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 (edited) Hey guys In my case i have changed from an HTC Touch Elfin to an Omnia i900L, and i must say i love it. I is blazing fast compared to my previous device, the video playback is excellent, not choppy as before, music playback the same. Love the built in GPS and the g sensor, the big screen etc etc. I have no stability problems at all, never need to soft reset, but i do it all 2 to 3 days, and battery lasts almost 3 days, but minimum 2. The only problem i have is the small device memory for programs, which prevents me to use Mobile Shell which was my favorite UI before. I was trying to put it in My Storage or in Storage Card, but it always installs to device memory. I also tryed to move it with SK Tools, but that also did not work. So i am trying to find a nice, light and stable cooked ROM, which still has most of the Samsung goodies in it, as i like them. It should of course have a better memory repartition, to avoid my current problem of running out of RAM. Currently i have 15 MB free out of 88.17 available MB. I have read that the proble is that Samsung reserves some amounts of RAM for internal use. But besides that i am really happy with my Omnia. Edited March 10, 2010 by claus1953

But besides that i am really happy with my Omnia. go for old taril's roms (stable, fast, original omnia feel)... almost identical to original but with more free space. they're all 6.1 because they are about year old. if you are mor 6.5 ish try pdhee's roms, they don't have samsung apps but they can be installed by cab anyway. also stable. the basic rule is that almost all roms are good out-of-box. but when loading additional SW also comes to problems.
Guest Fa310tx Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 You could always give the htc vogue a try. That's what I used to have and it was rock solid from day 1. The only reason I switched to the omnia is because of the faster cpu (makes fpsece better). Honestly, I've never thought the omnia was as good as the vogue, in terms of reliability. I cracked my first omnia's screen with 1 drop and I've dropped the vogue many times. The touch sensitivity and accuracy has never been as good as the vogue's (and I'm including reg hacked omnia against default vogue). Cooking roms on the omnia is more difficult than with htc phones (ppckitchen rocks). Htc's programs are a lot better than samsung's programs, to me. The proprietary samsung jack is awful. The lack of a proper d-pad is annoying. Finally, I'd like to meet the guy that decided "Hey, they don't really NEED a stylus with our new ui". I'd give him a friendly handshake. Hehehe... But... With all of that being said, I am currently using the omnia. My vogue is sitting in its box in my office. I did install a zagg screen protector, just to be safe. I think the extra speed of fpsece is really the only reason that I continue using the omnia. JJ
