Guest WoZZeR999 Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Has anyone tried this? http://samsung-sch-i910-omnia.handster.com...p?id=88&num Claims to work with the Omnia i910, but who knows what that's supposed to mean... B) It works with stupid people as well... Most shops have a simple script. Also, Most GPS software works with the i910, but it doesn't work with the INTERNAL Gps. They are not lying when they say it's gps software and works with the Omnia.
Guest phantomguy1 Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 $18 per call?? wow... pick a day and ill call a couple times... Guys.... be real. They get paid to take calls. Thats why they work in a .... call center. Calling is just going to make the lines longer and waste your time, not theirs. They go home when their shift ends and they wont remember your complaints about the gps. Just wait it out.... this isnt american idol...

Just wait it out.... this isnt american idol... be real? lol you must be a call center agent or a verizon spy, awesome, glad to have you here, anyways, yes you get paid to take calls from people either trying to renew a plan, enroll in a new plan, or with a legitimate question/problem, our purpose is to waste verizons time the way they are wasting ours, if a few thousand people sit on hold tying up the lines with silly questions then they stop getting those renewals and new activations, so while they are paying people to answer our calls they are not generating any new revenue and maybe those callers will go elsewhere and that simple question call turns into a cancelled account.
Guest somedude Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 (edited) So if we really want to hit verizon hard, we have to hit them during peak hours, on a busy day. Im assuming peak hours are in the morning, between 9am and 12am, with the busiest day being monday(most places i call on a monday morning are pretty busy) I say that every monday, we call and ask about the gps. I ride the train in the morning, so i can do it on the way to work. Lets keep bugging them until they decide to get off their ass, and release the fix. Ive been patient enough. It doesnt take 6 damn months to undo some stupid gps encryption. LETS ORGANIZE THIS, IM READY!!!! Edited March 20, 2009 by somedude
Guest jjfs85 Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Monday mornings between 9AM and 12PM EST?
Guest Paul_Bunyan Posted March 21, 2009 Report Posted March 21, 2009 Amazing. Hahaha, I feel kind of dumb now...But yeah, I was inquiring about the internal antena, but hey, that doesn't matter because it's now compatible with ALL my Stupid People! YES! FINALLY! What we need to do is get a hold of a few auto-dialers with a nice pre-recorded message and let them have their way with Verizon B)
Guest JDawg183 Posted March 21, 2009 Report Posted March 21, 2009 Ok, so I have been in correspondence with a verizon representative and they have called you guys out. Basically what this guy says is if you had any technical experience you would have figured it out by now. Just thought I would add some fuel to the fire. Here you go. Sounds like fightin words to me. Start from bottom. "J, I apologize for some of the information you have received regarding the unlocking of the GPS function on your Omnia. Not anyone can unlock this function. I am sure that there is someone out there that can do this. There is no guarantee that this would activate the service. It is a procedure that we do not authorize. I apologize for the inconvenience regarding this matter. I make it my personal goal to resolve all of your wireless concerns. I hope I have done that for you today. We appreciate your business and thank you for being the best part of Verizon Wireless. Should you have additional questions or feel your concerns are not resolved, please reply to this e-mail. Sincerely, Ron Verizon Wireless Customer Service -----Original Message----- From: @yahoo.com Sent: Thu Mar 19 15:33:16 PDT 2009 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: Other (WFM41800204) Ok, so if anyone with the technical knowledge could do it, why cant I just go down to my local Verizon store and have them do it? And why is it taking so (explitive deleted) long for you guys to get it unlocked. I am pretty sure that seeing as you guys are the ones who locked it in the first place, you should have the method to undo it quickly. And why are the people from Modaco (who have unlocked the GPS on several other phone) been unable to do it after months of working on it?As far as being a security issue, I fail to understand how it affects the security of your network in any way. The only people whose security it could affect would be the people who own the phone, and don't you think we should have a say as to if we feel concerned about our security? Cant you just have us sign a contract or something saying that we dont hold you responsible for any security issues related to enabling the GPS?Look, the reason this is so frustrating is beacause I have paid for the hardware. If I had bought the I900 and went with another provider, I would not be sending this email right now. If you went down to your local car dealership A and bought a brand new car capable of getting 40 MPG, but the dealer decided that it would be better for you to only get 20, so they modified it accordingly, wouldnt you be upset? Especially when your neighbor bought the same car across the street at dealership B and is getting 40 MPG? Just some food for thought. Just thought you may want to consider your consumers perspective.Josh P.S. Why wont Verizon just come out and admit that it is not a "security" issue, but an issue of, they feel that they can make more money by charging people monthly fees for a product that is substandard to those that can be purchased at a one time cost, or even free? --- On Thu, 3/19/09, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: RE: Other (WFM41800204) To: @yahoo.com Date: Thursday, March 19, 2009, 6:38 AM Dear J Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our web site. At this point, our Software Development team has not indicated a date when the GPS feature will be unlocked on the Samsung Omnia. While we can understand your eagerness to utilize its GPS functionality on your Omnia, Verizon Wireless has higher standards of reliability and security than our competitors. Though these policies do result in our being slower to add new technologies than other companies, With the addition of Alltel's customer base, there are now nearly 80 million people on this network, 80 million people who know that when Verizon Wireless adds a service, it will work and 80 million people you can call and not use a single minute of your monthly plan. Further, the GPS capability has not been crippled on your phone. Anyone with the technical knowledge could enable this service on your phone. New and emerging technologies, such as location-based services, provide great opportunities to increase efficiencies, decrease costs and simplify processes. Implementation of these new technologies and services can vary based on many factors including the strategy, goals and policies that drive the business. At Verizon Wireless we value the security and privacy of our subscriber data and user information and we have taken this into account in the development of our location-based services, which include GPS (Global Positioning Services) functionality. To alleviate concerns regarding access to data by malicious applications and misuse of location information, Verizon Wireless' location-based services utilize a solution that requires each location request to be authenticated and accepted prior to a user's location being obtained through the network and used by authorized applications. This solution requires the use of a custom security API (Application Programming Interface) by authorized applications in order to minimize the potential for "man in the middle" attacks and misuse of information by "bad actors." Verizon Wireless is aggressively working to expand its suite of location-based services in a way that does not compromise our dedication to privacy and security while still offering value and flexibility to the customer. If you have other questions, please reply to this message and we will assist you. There has been rumor lately that the GPS will be unlocked soon. I was just wondering if you could tell me approximately when it would be unlocked? My plan expires soon and I am considering leaving Verizon for a carrier that doesnt cripple it's phones so badly, but if the GPS is being unlocked before too long that would be enough to keep me. Thanks
Guest maldonj1 Posted March 21, 2009 Report Posted March 21, 2009 gonna add one more thing, when i first looked at this phone on the verizon webiste it said as one of its features was "Internal GPS", i go look again today.... no mention whatsoever that this phone even has a gps, talk about shady.., i swear if my company didnt pay for my data plan i would switch to SPRINT in a heartbeat. but i will let the girl that orders our phone not to order any more omnia's and get the free phones instead.

Well he's right, isn't he? Haven't some of you used existing GPS hacks and managed to see your location info (though through an inconvenient timing method)? If that's the case, then it would certainly be possible (and probably not too hard) for someone with the knowledge to write a proper Omnia GPS hack. The only problem is that no one with this knowledge has tried.

From the Microsoft site it has a description of the "Verizon Samsung Omnia" under devices and a link to purchase it thru verizon. Under Hardware it lists internal GPS. SO it can purchased thru a Verizon link and it is advertised as having internal GPS hardware. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-...ails.mspx?id=91

You calling will not result in cancelling any accounts unless you cancel your account personally. You jump off a bridge doesnt mean everybody else wants to. You need to realize there are busy days and slow days.... you people calling will just make it a semi busier day than it would have been. Then everybody else goes back to their own lives and youve done nothing. So waste YOUR time in trying to make something happen that wont. You dont like the phone being able to use only the navigator? oh well you knew that when you purchased the phone. The quarter is almost over. They wouldnt tell you anything even if they knew. Just wait until the 31st.. really its not that far away. I dont want to come off like a jerk by any means but you guys just need to wait. If you dont like waiting, then buy a GPS keychain for 60 bucks.. maybe even cheaper. Edited March 22, 2009 by phantomguy1

It's a waste of time to complain about the GPS issue to the employees of the Verizon call centers or stores. They have no power or influence over that issue, and chances are some of them would like the GPS to be unlocked just as much as we do.
Guest Case-1 Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 You guys are going about it in the wrong way. Gather all this data and take it to the media, I am sure local news comapnies would love to have a field day on Verizon.
Guest danagin Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 Rant, rant, rant. What's the deal here? This is not a rant about verizon being a bunch of bastards forum... (we already know that) Why don't we have any roms, why don't we have any development conversation? The i900 has all kinds of roms with useful upgrades and functions, better camera options being one of them. I wish I was a dev and had the time to chip in, unfortunately I don't though. I hope some of you good devs and hackers pick up one of these omnias and figure this mess out, it would make many happy. Any many others quit bitching and flooding the forums with repetitive nonsense. I personally love this phone aside from the gps, it I could get a cooked rom with the manila2d and gps, there would be no equivilant phone in my eyes.
Guest JDawg183 Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 I discovered something else last night. I am sure you have probably already found this, but if not I hope it helps. I was looking through my file explorer last night and I selected to view everything in my device and there were 2 options in there that I found interesting. One of them said GPS_XTRA, and the other was GPS Settings. I clicked on them and they would not open, but maybe someone else knows something I dont. If you have seen this and got them open, let me know how. Also, some people have said that they have "external gps" under settings in the menu, how did you get it? Thanks
Guest aceofrazgriz Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 i just want to add my support in here as a new member on this site, this topic got me to register because of the great people i see here trying to do something B) just got my Omnia last week, and was shocked when i found out the GPS was blocked out. I'll be keeping an eye on this and offering any possible help i can. We REALLY need to stick this to Verizon and get it working before they do. Also, the idea of taking this issue to the media wouldn't be a bad idea, and would be even better if we had the GPS working, Maybe this is something we can look to in the near future. Lets gather and keep evidence of things like them "promising" to fix it and the advertisement about internal gps to make a good story for the news.
Guest natedawg1013 Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 (edited) Lets get back to "UNLOCKING CDMA I910 GPS" as the title suggests, and stop "SLAMMING VERIZON EVEN THOUGH IT WON'T SPEED ANYTHING UP" please. I have some files that could be very useful to this cause! I have attached them below. They are all the ones I could find pertaining to the GPS. I hope they're useful because I couldn't copy them, and had to learn how to and do a rom dump, extract the partitions from it, extract the files from the partition, and decompile the file to see what it calls on. That is as far as my knowledge goes, so hopefully someone can use these to help get the GPS going on all of our Omnias!Omnia_i910_GPS_Files.zip Edited April 2, 2009 by natedawg1013
Guest JDawg183 Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 ok, so poking around in the registry i stumbled upon something called "software disable". It is under hklm/services. Could this be of any help at all? Sorry if not, I have never tried any hacking before. The current value is set to 1 in the group "isenabled" which I am assuming means the software disabler is enabled. Any thoughts?

I've heard that the i900 needs gpsgate for some programs to work so if anybody has easy access to that please give it a try. Edited March 23, 2009 by ren74

Guest aceofrazgriz Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 i looked at this key and the "FriendlyName" key in there has the value of "Software Disable Dialog Service" since its a software label, i don't think this may help much. Just my 2 cents.

Guest jbullington Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 I took a different approach and emailed samsung instead of verizon to ask about the GPS and here is what I got back. What I got back was suprising and I went to the Samsung site and their literature no longer lists GPS as a feature on the phone see pdf link. PDF "Dear John, Thank you for your inquiry. The built-in GPS feature of the phone supports Emergency 911 only. This is so that in case of emergency, you can be located by emergency services. There is no support for the use of 3rd party GPS devices at this time, nor do we have information about future development in this area. Do you have more questions regarding your Samsung Mobile Phone? For 24 hour information and assistance, we offer our new FAQ/ARS System (Automated Response System) at http://www.samsung.com/us/support/faqs/supportFaq.do. Be certain to check the Handy Resources links at the bottom of the page for quick access to things like the Owner's Manual, Warranty Information, Accessories, and more. It's like having your very own personal Samsung Technician at your fingertips. We do thank you for your interest in Samsung products. Sincerely, Technical Support" Original Question (choose Samsung i910 when sending in question) The GPS on this phone is currently locked. Verizon blames this on samsung and says it is waiting on you for a firmware update, and that they are hoping to have unlocked GPS functionality available by the 2nd half of 2009. Can you confirm this is the case and about when you will be sending updated firmware to verizon?
Guest flyinc Posted March 23, 2009 Report Posted March 23, 2009 I would venture a guess that if it works for VZNav, then there is a way to get it to work with GoogleMaps and Windows Live, etc. I can't imagine it only being for 911. It comes out of the box for 911 location only, but you can change that.
