Guest JDawg183 Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Ok, so here is another thought. The Blackberries came locked, and Verizon unlocked them. If we were to get the update they released for the blackberries, would that give some information that would be helpful?

BB is running on another OS/Chipset anything is possible though - BB forums....?
Guest key5000 Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post here. I just received my Omnia i910 from Verzion yesterday, would anyone please guide me through on how to unlock this i910: 1- How to turn on all the options that we discussed in here? 2- How to enable the External GPS setting ? (yes I known that the GPS is not locking yet) 3- How to turn on the internet shareing? 4- Can I customize all the application icon on the main Samsung Toady screen, Today or Today2 screen? and how. Thanks in advance. KEY

A CDMA Omnia was just released on Telus (see here). Anyone know if the GPS is supposed to be locked? If not, maybe we can get the pieces we need from someone on Telus.

Thanks in advance. KEY 2- Use a registry editor, goto HKLM/ControlPanel/GPS Settings, and delete redirect. 3- There is a Omnia tethering thread. Since it's just becoming available now, we should start to see some Telus users. If they have a working GPS, then we should only have to wait for a rom update to come out (as long as their Omnia is a i910 as well). If the Telus omnia is not an i910, but an i911 or i9xx (something other than what VZW has), then the actual hardware might be different, and that may not help with the GPS unlocking.
Guest h8isgr8 Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 I just tried gpstest for the first time. After a couple soft resets I managed to get a fix on 4 sats and received accurate lat/long info. I have never run VZNav and it is not currently installed. The only strange thing I noticed was every few seconds the lat/long info would come back with really long random numbers, but then would go back to normal. I doubt any of this is helpful, just thought I would share. B)

If you go to the telus site, it is an i910, but gps isn't listed as an included feature. Under features that you can add the site says "navigator." Edited April 3, 2009 by dhoppy

Guest Omega Ra Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 okay, by deleting redirect that enables external GPS...what is external GPS lol.
Guest WhoTheHellAmI Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Ok, so I found the above at PPC geeks. It seems like its just a sync update, but the fact that it is an update at all made me wonder if it might be able to be dissected to help our cause. Has anyone tried this yet?
Guest WhoTheHellAmI Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 okay, by deleting redirect that enables external GPS...what is external GPS lol. External GPS is for when you have a bluetooth or usb gps for your phone...most likely bluetooth only, because I'm not sure if there is a usb gps cord for this phone. sorry for double post
Guest Omega Ra Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 okay, since I don't have an external GPS device I don't really need to do that then.
Guest johnnyboy239 Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 so i started GPSTest on my i910, sat it in the window, came back 20 minutes later.. no satellite lock.. wtf Yeah, me too, I've tried it 4 or 5 times for 15 minutes a piece, No dice.
Guest Reisco Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) Yeah, me too, I've tried it 4 or 5 times for 15 minutes a piece, No dice. make sure 1 you are not plugged into the usb 2 active sync is not running via task mgr Posted by jakedoza March 5 (or 4th), damn you short term memory... Had the same issue until i did one and two. ETA While playing around I opened google maps and got a "GPS Active" and it located me in the Atlantic ocean. Looking at Google Earth, it looks like it just located me at 0 degrees north, 0 degrees west. Looking out the window, I am pretty sure that I am not in the atlantic, too many cows. The way I did it was to open google maps, switch using Task Switcher (assigned to a button), open GPSTest, go back to google maps using Task Switcher, and it will then say GPS Active and locate me (wrong, but will allow google maps to at least use its GPS software (although it never actually recieves and data from the GPS). Guest WoZZeR999 Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 To anyone who has not been able to get a lock, can you dial *228 and press option 2 to get a new PRL? (this will reprogram your PRL automatically) Try GPSTest after this, and if that doesn't work, try *228 with option 1 to reprogram the phone? If GPSTest works after that, then the AGPS is reliant on cell towers too.

Thanks in advance. KEY I use WalkingHotSpot, works great to create a wifi from your Omnia to your laptop. WMWifirouter has always been a problem for me, never worked. I use an external keychain bluetooth gps, with TOMTOM installed on my Omnia. Works great. Found it for $60 on ebay.

Is that completely automatic too, ort do I need to know something that needs to be entered? Also, is there any risk in either of these actions, or are they both non-destructive?
Guest WoZZeR999 Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 What do you mean "reprogram the phone"? Is that completely automatic too, ort do I need to know something that needs to be entered? Also, is there any risk in either of these actions, or are they both non-destructive? It's not destructive. I do the *228 option 2 at least once a month, it helps with cell reception too. I've never done option 1 on a non-hard reset phone, so I don't know if it deletes anything, but I'm fairly sure it doesn't. They are both automatic OTA programming. Basically you call *228, and voice menu will come up, press 2, and you'll hear some music. After about a minute or 2, the phone will ask to reset (soft). Try running GPSTest after that.
Guest Chugworth Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 From what I have seen with GPSTest, the phone has to be COMPLETELY still for it to acquire a lock. I have never seen it acquire a lock while in a moving vehicle, or even while I am holding it. Simply set the phone on a flat surface, start GPSTest, and wait about 3-5 minutes.

It seems like its just a sync update, but the fact that it is an update at all made me wonder if it might be able to be dissected to help our cause. Has anyone tried this yet? I did it, It just makes it so when you first turn on your phone it asks for you to set up wireless sync, i am not sure what that was so i just skipped it. It also offered a few more options for the today screen. There was one that made it so you could have a little widget like thing that displayed missed calls, text, emails etc. better than the one with the samsung today. I didnt dig in to it much, but those were the only differences. The only reasons I posted it while it doesnt seem relevant to our cause: 1. You guys are cool, thought it might help somebody out in their day to day as Verizon never tells us when updates are available. 2. Someone mentioned that part of the reason they couldnt unlock it was because Verizon had never offered any updates, so I was hoping it might help.

Guest key5000 Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Does anyone know is the setting for "GPS program port" , "GPS hardward port" and it "baud rate"?? Thanks
Guest WhoTheHellAmI Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 (edited) Great news! Could or could not be hearsay but Samsung has supposedly noted a firmware update that will unlock the GPS along with a number of other issues... http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...10-coming-soon/ quite a runaround, but i believe it might just be legit! Guest aceofrazgriz Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Does anyone know is the setting for "GPS program port" , "GPS hardward port" and it "baud rate"?? Thanks if this is in the external GPS settings... its useless unless you have an external gps. but the settings for the builtin gps are hardware port com1 and program com8, not sure on the baud, think i saw 38400 or something in the registry? but yes, the update could be legit if verizon lives up to their word. at the time of the original announcment i'd believe they should be close the the end of the testing phase. still no reason to stop what we're doing here.
