Um, wow, just.. wow. Word sure travels fast, and some people have really big mouths. Everyone download quick, because after seeing the link below, I come to one of two conclusions. 1. Verizon is going to put a cease and desist order out FAST, 2. They are going to officially release the update. Submitted for your approval (or disapproval) I give you... "the link"

I cannot believed this worked.. you know Verizon will have no choice but to officially release a new rom now.. THANKS to all!! I have Verizon in so much litigation about this it is not funny.. Thanks to all that complained to your local attorney general's offices and to the FCC about this.

2 words for Verizon

"SUCK IT!!!"

btw.. Windows live search is also working..!! for windows live search to work make sure you change gps settings to use "GPS intermediate driver" under settings

That's nothing. Check out the official Verizon Wireless PDA & Smartphone support forum. Someone went there immediately to rub it in their face.

OK....I know I am going to get a bit of flack from this, but I am really trying here. I am trying to update my Omnia on a Vista laptop (unfortunately...I prefer XP) and following the psd file to a T.

I uncheck the USB option in Windows Device Manager the psd tells us to uncheck in Active sync, run the flashing program, hit the appropriate choice and load the update file/image and then select the final button (detect), power down the Omnia (I am assuming pressing the top button), and plugging it into the laptop via USB, and then powering it back up..........then nothing!!!!

As I mentioned, I am trying to follow the instructions exactly, maybe I am missing something, maybe other Vista users did something different I can't pin down, but any info to help me out would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

I couldn't get it to work on Vista either (basically the same issue). I ended up using an XP machine instead. Sorry for not being much help.

This is what I did with Vista..

I did a HARD RESET on my phone before I started.. that wiped out my phone however, my storage and my storage card was not touched

install software from the VZAccess Manager Software CD for Samsung Omnia modem drivers

restart computer...

Start WINDOWS MOBILE DEVICE CENTER WITHOUT, WITHOUT!!! the phone connected goto Mobile Device Settings, Connection Settings and uncheck the "allow usb connections"

close WINDOWS MOBILE DEVICE CENTER (you will not use it anymore)

start UMDL_OMNIA2.3

Select the file as stated in the instructions

Hit the detect button

TURN OFF YOUR PHONE!! NOT JUST THE BACKLIGHT.. HOLD THE TOP BUTTON DOWN FOR 5 SECONDS UNTIL THE VERIZON CLOSING SCREEN COMES ON AND THE PHONE POWERS DOWN

now connect your phone to the usb cable and hold the power button down for 5 seconds to turn your phone back on

you will then see in UMDL_OMNIA2.3 that 1 device was detected and the ROM and other files are being copied/written/deleted.. all that good stuff.. took like 10 mins..

You will then see on the UMDL_OMNIA2.3 under Device 1 JOB DONE..  Phone will restart.. the restart takes a few mins.. DONT PANIC!!

load up Google Maps or Windows Live Search then call verizon wireless customer service and ask for their Address and tell them you want to navigate to them with your new unlocked GPS on their Omnia I910

"SUCK IT VERIZON!!"

did you install the samsung driver?

i also had my omnia set to active sync in the usb settings.

i did it on windows 7 so i know it will work on vista (other did it on vista also).

make sure you have all the back end.

samsung driver, usb settings on the omnia set to active sync....

that should do it! :excl:

Hehe, I'd actually advise not doing this part, unless you want them to note on your account that you just voided your warrantee. You wouldn't want to call them later on when you have an issue with your phone and for them to say "Sucks to be you."

Advanced Config no longer works? That sucks.

Also sucks that you still need a cellular signal for GPS to work. Hopefully totally standalone GPS will follow. Patiently awaiting succulent aromas from the kitchen.

Any problems with PIM restoring PDA data to the new ROM?

Azintegra many many thanks. I'll be praying for your job security. And sending a small donation.

Ted

Edit: Hmmm . . . Looks like I will need to update my sig shortly.

Just did a little test.. Drove somewhere omw to work where I get no service (Couldn't call out or get data). Switched over to iGO8, and voila, sat's!!

So it's not aGPS, just the GPS is somehow connected to the cell radio, and turning the cell radio off turns off the GPS service as well :excl:

But, I think that answers a lot of our questions about using the GPS out of cell range, at least :excl:

Maybe I'm old but does it make sense for you folks to be bashing VZW, the folks that wrote the software you are all so greedily devouring at this moment? Seems to me that we owe them as much as we owe Azinterga. After all, he didn't write the code, we didn't crack it, all we did was find the company you all seem to hates software that they have been working on for us before they released it, and no, they don't have to release it now. They could say that due to hardware issues and software issues they can't allow an unreliable ROM out to the public for our own good.

Lots of things "could" happen including court orders. I still just think everyone ought to cool it for a while. There's a big nuclear waste clould out there right now and it's coming from this forum. You think they won't be interested in how this happened?

By the way, someone let us know if they do see any announcements about the official release. I think I may just wait a bit. Then again, I might flash in 5 minutes. : )

Huh.

DeepBlue; Verizon didn't create this ROM, Samsung did at Verizon's Request. They've had it for at least 4 months. As we've seen, there is no instability in the ROM, it works fine and does what it's supposed to (Unlocks the GPS and gives some updates). I've put this new ROM through everything I put the stock ROM through and haven't had a SINGLE crash / error come up; that's BETTER than the stock ROM!

They could have released it within 2-3 weeks of testing, but they haven't.. And to say they don't watch these forums and watch us struggling to see if we maybe find a crack is just silly; they do.. I know I would...

So no, I don't think we need to get all riled up and bash VZW; we got what we needed and that's all there is to it. Be happy, enjoy it, and don't poke the tiger that isn't looking at you :excl:

Well it was Samsung that created this image. And I don't view Verizon as being kind and generous for allowing Samsung to unlock the GPS. The way I see it, Verizon is returning something that they stole from me.

And they haven't actually "returned" it yet anyways. We grabbed it back ourselves.

Anyone having trouble with the new ROM and ActiveSync? Mine keeps saying Retrieving Settings, but nothing happens. It just hangs?

Man do I feel dense this morning.... Spent hours trying to do this last night with no results.

Look this morning at this message and.. duh!! I never turned OFF the phone, just the screen.

Flash worked flawlessly after doing that.

Agreed Samsung probably cooked it up but you think they offered it to VZW for free? OK so maybe VZW didn't cook it but I'm pretty sure the profits from the few that bought into Nav are actually paying Samsung to work on the updates and unlocking the GPS.

Best news yet is that out of range you still get actual GPS. I don't know all that much about aGPS but it seems maybe we get the lock so quickly is that initial coords are from aGPS until we get a sat lock which can take a few minutes on my TomTom for example. Cool on the news that it works out of coverage areas.

Still, we all agree that we proSPAMbly have a working solution so I'm going to just relax, maybe flash mine today then. Just itchy about loosing all my settings and contacts and favorite apps. Then again, like a PC, maybe it needs a good flushing too.
