Guest syrguy1969 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 aleis....I did all that, thanks for replying, I appreciate the help! ChrisColumbus....I will try your instructions tonight, the hard reset (I had read in other threads it wasn't necessary) and the turning off part are different than I tried, I appreciate the help!!! I will report back tonight!! P.S. Has anyone flashed to this ROM, used an SPB backup (full) file to restore your apps/info?? I know SPB says it's full backup files are ROM upgrade safe, but I have never tried it!!
Guest joex51 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 (edited) Quick Questions, Which way is everyone using to Flash the Phone? Sansung PST or the UMDL_OMNIA I keep seeing people talk about checking Boxes and Not checking boxes for the phone/Radio, but the PDF has nothing about check boxes. According to what I see in the PDF it is a unified Image and you have to click the button that includes everything in the UMDL_OMNIA Sounds to me as if there are 2 ways to do this? Could we Also Please Stop Taunting VZW, I Know it is great that this was unlocked, but if we get the user responsible for getting us this ROM in trouble we won't be able to get anymore goodies from him in the future! Please use discretion when posting, if he gets in trouble other people will be reluctant to post any other goodies for us. Edited April 9, 2009 by joex51

I did a full back up via Active Sync last night as well as a full SPB Backup and now I am waiting to hear if either one worked to restore the contacts and settings. I wonder how VZWs updater will work?

UMDL is MUCH easier and is reference to the "PDF" guide. Use that one, it's fool proof :excl:
Guest DeepBlueEditor Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 (edited) UMDL_OMNIA ONLY do what is in the PDF is what I keep hearing over and over. The PDF after all IS the Samsung method of doing an update so why would anyone deviate? At least that's my thought. The UMDL app does a lot of other things from the look of it but you only want to flash the ROM so unless things have changed, I keep hearing use the default settings when the program opens and follow that PDF. Guest bmn4711 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 I have a very interesting story. Last night around 1 I took the plunge and flashed the new rom. I DID check the 2 box's. After the dust had settled, I dialed *228 option 1 and it was successful. Then *228 option 2 and no such luck. Next I called a friend and it said I was not Authenticated... At this point I knew to switch esn etc... or to call VZW. However, the VZW site was down and I could not change it. So I called 611. I spoke with a serveral people as I was escalated through the Tech Support team. By the end I had hard reset several times, **772, then changed SID, nothing worked. She said the due to the system being down for repairs that I had to call back in the morning. At 8 this morning I call back and quickly reach the smart tech people. Same song and dance at first then, I have to manually set the AKEY. That did not work, so they make a new AKEY it loads but the phone will still not make or receive anything. Around 9 they tell me to go to the local store and get a new phone. I say ok have a nice day. Afterward I continue to tinkle with it, and make a test call, SUCCESS my friend answers. So I moved on to data, doesnt work. I call 611 again, tell the whats up and try to demonstrate the phone works nothing happens says it just says "Dialing..." so I hang my head and sorry to waste your time. She tells me that my phone is registered on the network, and that I should just go ahead and take it back. I agree and continue to tinker. It works SUCCESS and the DATA DOES TOO. So this made me think it will not work while I am talking to tech support, however it will otherwise. So I call 611 tell her the story and say I am simply testing to see if it will work or not. It doesn't. I say thanks hang up and try a friend and it works. So I can get online send texts and make and receive calls just fine till I call VZW. btw I was using an old LG phone that doesn't have a plan to talk to VZW. Any Ideas. I am downloading Google Maps to test gps never got around to it.
Guest necosino Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 bmn; save yourself the trouble. Just reflash with the intialize phone option unchecked (bootloader doesn't make a difference either way, so I'd uncheck that, too) Flashing with both unchecked results in an open GPS, so you're only making more trouble for yourself, and the more people call, the more verizon is going to come looking to see what is causing the problem :excl:

I dont have access to change esn to another phone. What can I try now?
Guest necosino Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Tesler, do you have another phone that you can swap out for on the verizonwireless.com site? If you do; go on, go to my services -> my phone -> activate new phone, put in the other phone's ESN. Wait a minute, the on the other phone, dial *228 to activate. Wait 5 minutes and repeat the process using your Omnia's ESN. This should take care of it. If this doesn't work, call 611 (tech support) and tell them that after doing a hard reset (don't say flash, it'll void your warranty) your phone is giving you this message when you try to make calls. They'll reset your device and you should be all set :excl: I've never heard of this happening after flashing with both unchecked, are you sure you did everything correctly?

Now im not sure if it backs up the stuff on "my storage..." but when i did the flash, it doesnt delete my storage, just the main program memory and stuff.
Guest rosenhauer Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Is this Verizons way of getting a beta test out before they release it for real? Not having a one click installer keeps it to the slightly more tech savvy group of users.
Guest aleis Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 we have to do something about this GPS!!! today i havent been able to connect at all!! and i am NOT reflashing! :excl: anyone else having this issue?
Guest necosino Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 lol Rosen. maybe.. If so IT WORKS!!! :excl: :excl: :excl: iGO8 is totally worth the money, too!!

I have no idea why you're having issues. Using iGO8 I have absolutely no issues, it takes about 1-3 mins to acquire a solid GPS signal, and it seems to restart the GPS somewhere in there, but after a min or so it gets signal :excl:
Guest necosino Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Aleis, have you done soft resets? Like hiting the force Softreset button on the top next to the power button?
