Guest Tim-H Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Anyone else having trouble with the phone getting hotter than normal after the flash. Just had mine shut off completely randomly. Also It constantly wants to connect to the data line, even if im not running any programs.

Also It constantly wants to connect to the data line, even if im not running any programs. I can't duplicate this. It's probably something you installed. I actually did nothing to my phone for like 45 minutes after flashing to see if anything would happen and did not notice any data usage, heat, etc. Keeping the GPS on for a period will create heat just like being on a call or using data. I have a case on my phone that actually helps dissipate the heat quite well (like a heat sink) and I haven't noticed any heat from my phone except when I was installing iGO8 because of its size, which is normal.

Also It constantly wants to connect to the data line, even if im not running any programs. It did seem to me last night that my phone was running hotter than normal after the flash. However, I just chalked it up to a long period of constant usage. Flashing, installing apps, setting settings, draining the battery to about 40%, charging while using, then letting it run down again.. Everything seems fine today.

I would guess the phone wants to stay connected if you have selected the Location On function since it is probably trying to stay in touch with VZW and stay connected to aGPS for when it is needed. I would also guess the flash process is pretty intense on the ROM chips. Takes a bit of voltage to reprocram a ROM and keep the connection open for 10 minutes, etc.

It was doing it last night right after i installed the new flash. Maybe it was because i setup the weatherbug app. Would want a constant connection for about 5 minutes then i could shut it off without it reconnecting. Yeah I know using the data connection causes a lot of heat. I figured the gps would as well. Maybe its just a combination of the 2 producing more heat. Anyway on a good note. I downloaded todays and yesterdays adam carolla podcasts and it used a lot less of the battery to do than before. So maybe they did something to conserve battery power too. Maybe its all in my head. lol. The random shutting off of my phone this morning was odd though. I'll clean the battery contacts and post up it if happens again. Edited April 9, 2009 by Tim-H
Guest necosino Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 The location on setting only allows programs to access the GPS, it doesn't actually keep anything connected or in contact constantly, just when a program is trying to acess it. Otherwise the phone blocks programs trying to access the GPS chip (except 911) "for your privacy."
Guest aleis Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 guys it worked after the soft reset using the little hole!! :excl: i`ll monitor it but after i did that i got a fast connection with gps using gmaps :excl:
Guest curnj Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Ok, I'm still not able to ActiveSync since I did the ROM. I tried uninstalling it off my pc and re-loading it. Still just get Retrieving Settings forever. Anyone else seeing this?

I was able to active sync over the data connection with google sync. Havent tried the hard wire yet. try your usb connection options in the settings menu. Menu/settings/all settings system tab. open the data connection setting. try playing with that. Edited April 9, 2009 by Tim-H

Guest joex51 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 we have to do something about this GPS!!! today i havent been able to connect at all!! and i am NOT reflashing! :excl: anyone else having this issue? Which way did you Flash the Phone with the UMDL or the Samsung PST? BTW IF you Flash your phone and you can't dial out or get data, Call VZW support and tell them word for word " I did a Hard reset on MY phone today, now I can't Dial out or get to the data network WOuld you please reset My A key?" Don't mention the word Flash!!! 1. It will void the warrentee on your phone( not sure about the insurance) 2. It will attract unwanted attention for VZW If it is not too l;ate already. On second thought I don't recall but when skywing unlocked the GPS for the vx6800 did they care about it at all? Well anyway it is better to play it safe. :excl:
Guest curnj Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Thanks....Yes it's enabled. It connects, but then it just spins with Retrieving Settings. The phone is set to ActiveSync on USB as well. Is there another setting I'm missing? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Software resets are fine, but those little hardware reset buttons actually reset all the hardware in the device (doesnt clear anything out). It's like resetting all the safety switches after a breaker blows :excl:
Guest Tesler32 Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Thanks for all the help. I called vzw tech they re auth my phone and GPS is now working too. Locked to 5 sats in about 2 minutes outside or course. Thanks for everything.

Phone data should be on default "Internal data call" Make sure usb setting is set to activesync, not mass storage device. Doesn't work: Restart computer, soft reset phone with the hole next to the power button.

Yeah, like Tim-H said, if you're trying to sync with the cable, make sure you've reenabled the 'Allow USB Connections' in ActiveSync. Have you reinstalled any apps yet? Or are you trying this just after you sync? When I did mine, I reinstalled a bunch of apps really fast and somehow was not longer able to sync with the computer, with google, or even download my email. I guess I should've been soft-resetting throughout as my apps wanted me too.. In the end, nothing like a good hard reset to fix it all :excl: Soft-reset again? Else try a hard. Guest curnj Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 RE: ActiveSync: Thanks to everyone for their input. I figured it out. In case anyone is having the problem, I 'UnChecked' the Enable advanced network functionality box in USBtoPC setting. I reconnected the cable it work immediately. Thanks again!!!

Guest i'mdangerous Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 I haven't gone back and re-read this thread since i last posted, but GPS works with the new build... These are my findings... 1). Flash the ROM using the instructions here... http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...-for-omnia-i910 2). During the flash option, make sure you have both the Phone Bootloader and the one next to it checked. This replaces the radio drivers (required). 3). Install WLS (wls.live.com) 4). Call Verizon and get your phone re-authenticaed - Or better yet swap ESNs with another device for an hour or so then switch back. Be carefull to swap ESNs to another device otherwise this could mess up your data plan. 5). Enable the Location option under Start > Settings > Phone > Services Tab> GPS 6). Soft Reset phone 7). Launch WLS and click Map then Track Me Using GPS After a short time, it will place you in the ocean, then shortly after that, your actual location. It takes a minute or so to get it going, but once its working you should be good to go. The instructions i read said to not check the boxes you refer to in #2. i flashed without them checked.
Guest Adrynalyne Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Right. No special instructions or tricks during the flash should be needed to enable the GPS. Its unlocked in this rom.
