And with this post, I dub this thread CLOSED!!!!

Closed why? You act like this is a completely resolved issue. I won't consider it resolved until the official 100% working release is out.

This ROM is a buggy POS if you ask me. It took multiple soft resets yesterday to get GPS working, and now today it isn't working at all. My phone has been outside for searching for sats for like 3 hours now. If you call that a success you have very low expectations.

I'm really getting tired of reseting this phone. :excl:

Hey idoc . . .

Y'know those sporadic DPRAM issues you and others were having? I notice in the "Select a Platform" window at the top of my UMDL_OMNIA_v2.3 screen there are two SCH-i910 profiles: one with and one without the DPRAM tag. I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't hit the mouse scroll wheel while viewing it beside the _v1.7 version from the pdf instructions Azintegra posted.

Y'think this might be the source of those issues?

BTW I'm just fixin' to get ready to flash. :excl:

no... DPRAM is dual ported RAM or dynamic ram, which, i think is what our phones are.

i think the issue is more of people not hard resetting their phones, and some of these registry changes are messing with the install of the firmware.

----------------

if anyone knows more about that, please correct me!

Then why would there be a profile for "SCH-i910 || (WM6.1)" and another for "SCH-i910 || (WM6.1)[DPRAM]"? It appears that "SCH-i910 || (WM6.1)[DPRAM]" is the default profile.

How can registry entries affect a phone who's OS hasn't even booted because its in a flash mode?

This thread SHOULD NOT BE CLOSED until the official rom is released, and everyone is able to successfully update with no issues.

This rom is causing bricked phones, issues with GPS and other problems. So no, this issue is STILL not resolved.

Looks like the issue is resolved to me. I guarantee you that some people are going to have issues even with the official release.

Good for you; consider yourself excluded from this thread then.

If tomorrow or the next day your GPS just randomly stops working; we don't want to see any posts by you complaining about it.

Yes good for you. But all throughout this thread people are documenting issues. I havent really seen too many issues with a official rom, because its been tested and has better a installer.

The bottom line is this, we are using a untested, beta rom, which is causing problems with peoples phones and this thread should stay open until a legitimate official rom is released, plain and simple.

Well, it really doesn't make much difference to me. But the thread requests a way to unlock the GPS, and now we have one.

And really, the build seems pretty solid also. I have been running it for a few days now, and have found no significant issues that would surprise me to see in a final build. So a few of you had back luck flashing the device. But there's one thing that I feel quite certain about - the problem is not with the image.

I think there is more than a few.

Only a few people bricked yes, but a lot of people are reporting inconsistencies with the gps lock, issues with a-gps(someone even started a thread about this issue), issues with weatherbug widget, etc. The rom is not stable and we shouldn't be passing it off as a solution.

I'm glad it worked for you but we shouldn't be sweeping all the issues everyone else is having under the rug.

If you were having issues, i guarantee you wouldn't pass this off a solution either.

And most of that has nothing to do with GPS. This thread is so torn up it no longer makes sense and is a pain to search through. The problem areas already have new threads started so this one being closed will hurt no one.

Yeah, I'm with blazing wolf... there are already threads that got started to deal with specific problems... This one just needs to be closed for the sake of keeping problem specific issues in their respective threads

ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION!!!!!

LOL

Guys and Gals I found something very interesting today.. I have had all day to play with my GPS.. If you guys could confirm this this may make some difference for the time it takes to get your location  with the GPS.. Im am thinking that this is why AGPS is so handy.. I was having a time getting satellite lock with GPS on google maps.. I can get it no problem but it would take 5-10 mins (one or two retrys) to aquire satellite lock.. this is what I have come up with and I hope everyone will try this especially if it is taking you a good while to get GPS lock..

First I have my settings set to "let windows manage" my gps connnection.. I had it set to com 8 Baud 57600 but i would sometimes get "gps receiver not found" would have to do a soft reset and then reload taking another 10-15 mins to get lock.

I changed it to "let windows manage" and leave it.

since we are playing around with GPS we know where we are.. (i hope noone is lost outside of your home in your yard and I hope you know where your house is on a map)

When you open Google maps I want you to ZOOM in to your approx location...

AS SOON AS I ZOOM IN TO MY APPROX LOCATION IT LOCKS WITHIN 3 seconds.. no more waiting 10 mins for a lock

I have tried this with soft reset after soft reset after soft reset.. drove home from work with google maps closed and got home, opened google maps.. it will say "searching for satellites" then time i zoom into my approx location I have 5 or 6 sat lock in a second even before it loads the map itself..

Im thinking that is where AGPS is coming in handy, if the Big V will eventually allow us to use it.  The AGPS puts you into the "approx" location like I we are doing zooming  into where where we are, and then the satellite will lock within a few seconds...

PLEASE TRY THIS and CONFIRM.. especially if you are taking 10-15 mins to get a satellite lock..

now if you are lost in a mountain range.. I dont mind waiting 10-15 mins to get lock so I can get out.. but when I leave my house I want GPS within a few seconds.. I believe this may help

CAN EVERYONE CONFIRM THIS..

thanks, Chris

P.S. This also worked with Windows Live Search.. so I really dont think I am dreaming it up...

I'll try too!

I just tried it again in my living room.. I work like 15 mins from my house and I had Google maps turned off.. I went into my living room... all glass windows on 2 sides and zoomed into approx where my house is and had 3 active satellites within the time it took google maps to load the actual map of my street.. I think this may be a win

i've been zoomed in to my approx location before and it took a really long time to find any sats... maybe because i'm inside? I doubt it, but in playing with my phone the other day I was zoomed in to just my apartment and a few others around me and tried to get a lock, took awhile... I've also tried it zoomed back a bit further too, but no dice.
