Guest limwilliam
Dear Guys I'm newbie here at Modaco I'm from indonesia, I just bought my Omnia in Singapore My Current Version is PDA: I900DZHJ1/DZHJ1 Phone: I900DZHJ1 I want to Update / Upgrade my Omnia to New Official Samsung Firmware i900DZHK3, I have learned and searched for this topic a lot in Modaco and other forum, I have also installed Microsoft Active Sync and Samsung Modem Driver, and download the i900DZHK3_updater_xp.exe form samsungmobile official wibsite (106MB) My Question are 1. I just follow the instruction and update my firmware, is it really that simple? or there are other things i should do? 2. I affraid that my Omnia will be bricked after the update process, how big the chances that i will bricked my Omnia (eventhough i will use official firmware dan follow the complete instruction form Samsung and the expert here in Modaco) ? 3. Does my computer need to connect to the internet when the update process begin? please, i really need all your help Thanks A lot
Guest Natsirt
Close all running programs and applications on your computer before starting the updater. Then just follow the updater and just wait until it finishes. If it gets stuck at the Eboot section, dont unplug your phone or it will brick, just leave it plugged in and reinstall activesync and the modem drivers and restart the flashing process. BUT dont flash based on my answer, because i am not entirely sure if its correct, so search around and see others can verify my answer. the chances of something going wrong arent that high, and bricking ur omnia is quite slim. Many ppl flash their omnias regularly without problems. hope this helps :)
Guest meabigbaldguy
You already have AS and the Modem Driver. It also sounds like you already have the new ROM as well. Flashing is quite straight forward, as Natsirt mentioned, close all other programs on the PC and run the updater. Follow the updater which will begin and finish on its own. Your phone will also show a status bar and then reboot itself when the task it completed. Samsung mobile's website also has good instructions for flashing the new ROM. The whole process will take around 10-15 minutes. You will have to reload all of your applications, tweaks, and any other programs once the new ROM has been flashed. Guest cooluisgzz
Thanks for the help, any other opinion for me ?, the thing is i really need to know, "It is safe to update official firmware ?", Thanks Again Well you are never safe upgrading a Rom, something always could happen. When i First came here at modaco I was REALLY doubtful about flashing my cellphone (you know the $600 price tag), but believe me is worth it. Flashing with an original ROM is REALLY but REALLY easy, I would say is 99% safe, you wont brick your phone flashing it with a Original ROM, pretty safe just follow the samsung steps, you cant start the upgrade phone if you did something wrong so there is no real way you could flash your phone wrong. Flashing with a Custom ROM that was a big deal for me. You need to be sure you have installed the Samsung Modem Drivers and using Windows XP, its not hard but its a higher risk, i would say you are 95% safe, I flashed my rom with Taril's custom rom and believe me, ITs WORTH the risk, awesome performance, youtube, awesome battery life, awesome sensibility you will get alot more from your phone by flashing it with a custom ROM. Good luck and give it a try, if you need any help dont hesitate in sending me a PM, since everyone helped me here (specially Sector) I feel I should help new people too. Guest shokka9
just thought i would add my 5cents... Put it this way, us (chefs) have to test builds out, so we have to flash them to test them (unless you have emulator), anyways, this can be upto (and in excess) like 20-40 times over a weekend, as an example. And trust me, depending on what we do to our ROMs, depends on the reults after flashing. I partially bricked mine a few times...yellow triangle at boot, no screen, all sorts. But thats so we know we have a product to let others use. Once you have flashed yur Omnia once, the process is second nature. It never changes, so it kind of automatic after a while. I have NEVER bricked my Omnia, i only have one (on contract), so it is quite valuable to me. Chefs don't mess with the eboot.nb0 file that the Omnia needs to boot sucessfully, so no matter what we do (or you), it will always boot to an extent, so it is always recoverable. If you experience any difficulty during the flashign process. Just restart the process with a known good ROM. There is no real difference between using Official ROMs and custom ROMs. It involves the same process, bringing the same risks. The risks are super low of bricking Omnia. If you do brick Omnia, then you probably had a faulty handset. People flash these all the time, numerous times a day, they work perfectly. As long as you follow the correct procedure, then all is well. Flash away and enjoy your Omnia experience.

Guest kuebs
Thanks a lot for the advice, i will try to flash my omnia, wish me luck I have never been succesful in updating a ROM with the loader. Each time I get a PDA not found message and a time out. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I used the modem drivers from the Samsung website, but sometimes on XP it still says it has found a new i900 device. If anyone could direct me to drivers that work better I would be very appreciative. I have attached the screenshot of the results I get when I try to do a ROM update.
