Then I have no idea what your issue is. I can see a possibility of an issue if you're standing outside in bright sun with the backlight off, but in the car? Most cars come with a thing called a roof. That roof blocks the sun and provides shade.

I dunno... maybe try taking it out of the cradle on your dash and therefore out of the sun. And once again, make sure the backlight is turned on.

Seriously, I can't be the only person in the world with some sort of super Omnia with a screen that can be seen outdoors.

I kinda wish I had bionic eyes. Then I wouldn't need these glasses that I've been wearing since high school.

No you're not the only one. I just stop or find a shade if i need to use my phone in direct sunlight. And that's only when i go to class so i have to set the phone to silent mode and that really is the only time i have that problem.

I bought my Omni in Italy about 6 months ago and have been battleing with it all that time.

1.) The screen is so soft that even a plastic stylus scratches it. Attaching the included stylus like object will completely destroy it.

2.) The included stylus like object is ridiculous.

3.) The camera closes whenever you turn off the phone making it a three step process to take a picture and impossible to catch any changing event.

4.) The connection for charging the phone is propritary and so picky that the only thing that will charge it is the included adapter so you have to carry it around every where you go.

5.) The data connection is propritary so you have carry another cable everywhere you go and this cable will NOT charge the phone.

6.) Whenever you try to use the scroll bar the phone switches to some whacky zoom mode that it is almost impossible to get out of.

7.) The included navigation software, Route 66, is horrible, no search function, cannot even put in an address. Route 66 refuses to provide updates in .CAB format, I have asked, no begged, and just got rude replies that said I should use Windows which is funny because Route 66 started off as Mac software.

8.) Turning on Bluetooth destroys battery life.

9.) The reset hole is so tiny that it is difficult to find an object that will fit in it when you desperately need to reset it, several times each day.

10.) The Power connector is on the side making cradles and auto mounts pretty useless.

11.) Headphone jack or actually lack thereof.

1) Press softer. In 6 months of using my stylus my screen is scratch-free.

2) Personal preference.

3) That's not unusual.

4 & 5) Who says you can't charge via USB using the standard cable?

6) That can be disabled if you don't like it.

7) My Omnia came with Garmin XT, which works flawlessly.

8) Yeah, and?

9) Yeah, and? The hole is small so that you don't accidentally reset the phone. Besides, the stylus fits fine.

10) My Omnia came with a Samsung car mount that can be rotated vertically or horizontally. No cable issues at all.

11) Like so many other phones.

You sound like a whiney kid who didn't do his research before buying the phone, or who's too lazy to figure out how to use it.

..sorry buddy, never had this problem with any htc...ever. so, drive with one hand on the wheel, the other covering the screen, yeh, right. i'm not the only one with this issue. you've probably got bionic eyes.

How about not using your phone while driving?

I'm loving my Omnia. It's by far the best mobile device I've ever owned. I've tweaked it a bit to get it to where I want it, and have no real complaints. Yes, I wish the standard battery lasted longer, but I really can't complain too much considering how much I use it during the day. During work, I use it to check e-mail, hop on Facebook a few times, and listen to streaming radio over the internet, as well as use it as a phone. I kinda expect it to drain the battery when I do things like that. When I only make a few calls, the battery lasts for days, which is on par with every other regular cell phone I've had.

I'm thinking about flashing to WoZZer's WM 6.5 ROM tonight, which will most likely make me even happier with it.

berberloon, you can get as low as RM2000 for Omnia now. Of coz a lot of people thought that Nokia5800 is as good as Omnia and way cheaper at RM1100 will buy 5800.

Not sure about pictbridge, I usually send picture if i want to print them to photo kiosk via bluetooth. That something that Iphone can only dream to do.

kodak_G4_kiosk_2.jpg

You can also insert the memory card in the kiosk if you want to print many photos. Oh wait iphone cant do that too right?

I don't have Iphone cant help u...any way THANK chokia.

Do omnia wm6.1 will upgrade to 6.5?

I have my omnia for 2 months now ... and this is the best phone i ever used ...

I always used WinMo devices because of its flexibility ...You can do almost everything with it ...

Yeah Yeah .. there are bugs .. but enough work-arounds are on the net for it ...

I must agree with what is said here ... its the user that is the problem ...

Here some random points I like to say ...

- I don't expierence any lag at all using my phone ... actually ... Its pretty darn fast

- I can do anything with my phone what I like to do (read this line carefully: 'what I like to do' ... and this is a lot of things :D )

- GPS works great ... fast fix, enough software out there that will suit your needs ... TomTom, Garmin, Igo, MCGuider, Destination, Route66, ...

- I agree with the samsung today screens .. they are all not usefull .... but there are so many today screens out there ... I use M2D ... wich is perfect! (WinMo 6.5 ftw!)

- I flashed like 10 different roms from this site (great support here btw) and now i have a phone that PERFECTLY suits my needs ... really perfect

- The photos you can take with the omnia are superb!! ... the flash works really great ... (pretty good flashlight too)

- HTC doesn't have a flash and the photo's ... are really not so good ... taking good photos is important for me!

- HTC has a better screen -> . <- Omnia's screen is good enough for me (with all the other things you can do with it!)

- There are also a good amount of minor issues with the HTC phones ... omnia has that too .. (of course .. what else  )

- With Omnia, you can take photo's really close to the object (and still is sharp) ... important for my work ...

- Omnia is maybe not so good in direct sunlight ... but for me .. i can live with it

- I don't use the stylus a lot but I didn't expierence any damage/scratches on my screen while using it

- Actually since last week ... i didn't use my stylus at all ... too many apps out to make it really finger-friendly ...

- Finger mouse is good ... but don't use it .. (in winmo 6.5 it doesn't work) ... DPad could be better ...

- YouTube video's plays good on my phone ... Touchplayer isn't that great but It doesn't skip frames for me ... coreplayer is of course the best ...

- Can't complain about battery life ...

- Using Opera and internet (in general) is very good on my phone

- I don't have to reset my phone frequently .. with use of a good taskmanager .. memory is always good and no open programs in background ...

- And the phone's size is really great while offering all those features !!!!!

- Touchscreen sensitivity is good ...

- ....

Voila ... these are my 2 cents ... just a bunch of random points describing my point of view !

This phone needs customisation to suit your needs ... for me ... winmo devices are not perfect out-of-the-box ...

And for that .. you need to do reseach ... with the lack of research .. you know the answer ...

That being said ... my wife would really hate this phone .... but I really love it ... is that the phone's fault ?

why is this post even here? This just panders to Emo kids. How sad is it that you have taken your time to complain and defend your complaints on a forum dedicated to people who like the phone. On top of that, this thread has actually been used to convince people to use the phone, thus defeating your intent.

If the phone is so horrible there is a little thing called a return policy, use it. If you were given the phone, quit complaining since you didn't pay for it.

Unlike others i will not defend my phone, the simple fact that i use it, and that i chill on a forum dedicated to it shows that i like it.

To anyone who is on the fence about the phone, or anyone with problems, post with a descriptive topic. You will be amazed how helpful people are here.

Cheers

mate, first, not all cars have roofs!! secondly, some cars have large windows!! thirdly, the sun is not always on your back!! somehow you do not seem like a car driver. you really must be from planet "night". doesn't your dash board ever get warm..normally from sunlight??? i was going to say "on yer bike" but even then, on my bike, here in the netherlands, the phone is even worse (and yes, we do get sunshine here and i do have a bicycle cradle for it). anyway, point is, in sunlight phone is a chocolate tea pot, with any navigation s.w. i don;t understand, why do you defend this point so vehemently? if it's a fact that it's poor in the sunlight, then so be it.

wat een onzin.. ok enough bullshit. listen the phone is not really good in sun light..as for almost all phones. I use mine a lot in the car.. with a car holder which connect to the windows.. never problems with the sun. If your not able to get this right in the car (cabrio's aside) your doing something wrong with the positioning or you need to take glasses ;-)

if you put backlight to manual and on highest level the only moment there is a problem is with is when the full sun on it.

anyway back to this topic... the one who started this topic is an idiot!!

ive been using windows phones from several manufacturars and the all have issues.. so dont come with this htc bull (eventhough their phones are quite nice) when the difference is quite small.

anyway my response is already a waste of time...........................

Or you daft or just plain old slow?

Yes don't tinker with navigation while driving. I usually do that before I even sit in the car or before I turn it on. It really doesn't matter when you set it up 5 minutes before or after you sit on the bicycle, car, plane, boat, sub,... If the screen is your bigest problem then I suggest that you use the old BW screens on the older phones.

I can send you a Nokia 3310 free of charge if you pay for the postage from my country. The battery will last you for a week and the screen is crisp clear on sunlight. And no BT problems what so ever.

You won't have a GPS but seing that you can't use it now it really doesn't matter.  :D

Sorry for being harsh but you're starting to sound like a whining brat.

It almost sounds like you have a defective phone. Maybe you should take it back and exchange it for something else if you're having so many problems with it. I know I'd much rather own a phone I actually liked rather than spend time whining about the phone I have to complete strangers on the internet. That just seems kinda silly to me.

I drive an hour each way to work, 5 days a week. On top of that, I drive all over the state of Georgia for work about ten days each month. On those days, when I'm not driving, I'm outside at an electrical substation, usually in the sun. (I design substations for a living). Believe me when I say that Georgia is mostly a very sunny state. And with all of that, I don't have any more of an issue on my Omnia than I did with any other phone I've had.

Like I said, maybe your phone is defective.

i'm not whining, youre all just getting excited over something silly as a telephone. point is, in the sunlight, in the car, doesn't work well. my previous telephones did. simple! so everybody elses works crystal clear...give yourselves a medal.

I flashed to WoZZeR's latest WinMo 6.5 Lite ROM over the weekend, and now I love my Omnia more than ever. And now that I know how to use the settings for the camera effectively, it takes wonderful pictures. I'm even using it in place of the department's digital camera for taking pictures out in the field.

I couldn't be happier with it.

Hey people,

Why argue to fiercely? He doesn't like some aspects of the damn phone, and he's written it. If you have something that can help, that's nice... Other than that, why?

I mean, I saw a few "Why is this thread here" posts... It can directly be said (with more of a logic) to those posts back. If you don't like the title or have nothing to share with that topic, just "DON'T POST ON IT"

By the way, I don't like the heating issue of the phone, the screen (especially outdoors) brightness and softness issues and the non-standard connector it uses.

But, the same time, I do like the camera and the photos it get, the overall look of the phone (while in design details, it's not that great, or even faulty) and it's comparable speed.

Anyways, in general it's a nice gadget and can make someone happy for a long time. But, I don't think I'm that someone totally. So, it too won't be my device-for-10-years. Will change it as soon as I find a more valuable candidate, just couldn't find one yet <_<) (HTC? Come on!)

Nothing to link to, sorry. Just do what I did, and take the same picture over and over again, mess with the settings each time until you find what works the best with certain conditions (lighting, indoor/outdoor, etc.) It will take wonderful outdoor pictures. Indoor pictures aren't quite as good, but not too bad if you find the right settings.

umm i havent read a large chunk of this thread, so what i'm saying might have already been mentioned here.. but .. regarding the gps and the direct sunlight dilemma whilst driving.. doesn't the gps program have voice navigation? so there really is no need to look at the screen.. (well the occasional glance to make sure the gps isnt lagging or jerking u around) ..
