Guest Chugworth Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 event121: Windows Mobile 6.5 isn't expected to start appearing on phones until some time around September. In the coming weeks, or at least some time before July, I expect Verizon's i910 to be updated to the same level as the Canadian i910's. It would be awesome, though, to see Windows Mobile 6.5 appear on the i910 before the end of the year. It's a possibility.
Guest Adrynalyne Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 VZW has provided feedback to Samsung about the i910. Samsung has verified that most of the things "wrong" with this phone are simply just working as intended. However, they have responded to VZW as recently as March '09 that an update is being worked on. There is no release date and no information about what will be included. The only official known issues with this phone are the 8gb memory not displaying (fix: soft reset) and the silicone cover was originally sold with no hole for the speaker on the back (fix: replacement done at point of purchase). There is an update coming. However, after Samsung provides it to VZW, it will be tested. This is to make sure VZW does not provide an update to its customers that bricks all your phones. The only rumors about this software update is that VZW does not know if it will be delayed to also provide WinMo 6.5 or if it will contain said unlocked GPS - something VZW wants on this phone just the same as it is on the Storm (believe me, they want it, they also don't want it to suck). Lastly, if you call into VZW about the Critically Low Memory issue and you don't know how to fix it, you will most likely be told to hard reset and start over. Then you will be provided with information on how to manage your memory and applications (most of which they pulled from sites like this in their free time to address their own problems with this phone). So please stop calling us, err, them. P.S. VZAppzone and VVM are the biggest problems with VZW's i910. DO NOT INSTALL. They are getting updates very soon as they are causing major issues. IE VVM opens itself multiple times and runs in the background (can't be seen in any task manager so far as they know) and causes lots of random issues. IE VZAppzone once installed will incrementally eat up your Storage Memory little by little every day without even being run a second time. Still not buying it. BS. Verizon cannot be that blind, nor can Samsung. I can think of quite a few issues that effect every i910 on the market. First and foremost: Escalating ringtone issue. Don't give me the working as designed, because there are two settings, ring, and increasing ring. Both do the same thing. The registry fix is a bandaid, and breaks other things in the process, i.e. you cannot shut off system volume, because it kills the ringer as well.

Why do you think they will not unlock it?
Guest Adrynalyne Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 Because talk is cheap, and text on the internet is free?

I installed and have been using VVM from the day I got the phone, and have had absolutely no problems with it at all. I despise everything else that V put on this phone, don't use any of it, and am generally disgusted with their nickel&dime business model, resulting in things like crippled GPS hardware. However, I have been very pleased with VVM, and would not like to be without it. For the record, my phone is one of the most customized, tweaked, hacked around -- to the extent possible on the i910. So it can't be that I have a "vanilla" setup that happens to work with VVM.
Guest JDawg183 Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 I have an idea, how bout we all just stand around and hold our breaths til this happens. 1.2.3 go OHM!!! B)

Why do you think they will not unlock it? thats exactly why i cant believe it.. its floating around in the forums instead of something official do me a favor and tell everyone that aliens brought me the new omnia version 3 years from now in the future and im selling it to the highest bidder.... its true! its gonna be all over the forums
Guest krelvinaz Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 (edited) First, there is no firmware upgrade coming from Samsung for the i910 that VZW hasn't already approved. I kind of doubt that VZW has the ability to change the firmware, it just tells Samsung what and how to configure it and then they test what they got. Any problems and Samsung needs to update it again and start the process over. As an example to upgrading a VZW Samsung phone, when my Samsung i760 had a firmware upgrade, there was news of it a week or so before it showed up. It was then announced on the Verizon website, but the link to the actual firmware download pointed to the Samsung website. The firmware needed to be downloaded to your workstation and was a multi-part upgrade process. It required a hard reset before starting. Doing the upgrade required you were plugged into power and that you didn't interrupt the update. Both made perfect sense. The upgrade itself was not that big of a deal and easy enough for most people who own that type of phone. I would imagine that there are those who can't read instructions or are confused easily and would need help, but then they would always need help. I don't know that the stores had the ability to do anything with the upgrade. Never talked to one. 2-3 weeks out, is certainly within the time frame initially mentioned by Verizon for unlocking the GPS. Most are hoping that the release is not at the very end of the 2nd QTR, at least I do. After the GPS unlock however... the next *itch will be that the GPS uses too much power, or makes the unit too hot... or is not quick enough .... Guest aceofrazgriz Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 krel is right, i had the i760 too and updated when the WM6.1 update was out. quick and easy, get it from the sammy site, they detail the process well. so if this TRUELY came from a T3 Sammy rep, then its possible, and would be within the timeframe they've stated. and yes, the GPS will use too much power... if your constantly updating your position, one of the reasons cells mostly use aGPS instead. again, we can sit around and wait (and hope) for this, or for those of us trying we can keep making progress on unlocking it ourselves, which is more fun anyway.
Guest Adrynalyne Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Who knows, there is nop official announcement of any fw update, just rumors and speculation. My wifi works, FWIW. It just doesn't like some routers.
Guest Rooster Misfit Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 will the wifi issue be fixed? whats wrong with it?
