Well, I'm about to leave work, go home, and try and flash the new ROM. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Hopefully I won't be posting here in a couple of hours crying over a shiny new brick. :excl:

I've followed all of the instructions exactly. How long exactly should the update process take? My phone's screen says "Do Not Disconnect..... Loader Image Download.." But it's been stuck at 10% for about 15-20 minutes now. Do I wait? If not, what next? Start over somehow?

New ROM is working great for me. I used SPB Backup to back everything up, flashed to new ROM, and then executed the SPB Backup file that was created from the backup. SPB Backup gives an option to restore in "ROM Upgrade mode", which worked wonderfully. I did notice that I lost a couple icons for custom apps I had installed, but a reinstall of the application has fixed it.

On the original ROM, I was never able to get Pandora mobile to work. I just tried, for the fun of it, and it works now!! Woot woot!

I finally flashed today! Went absolutely perfect. I only have one issue:

I can't get GPS to work. Can somebody please post the exact settings that I need to change the External GPS to? The first tab (Programs) has GPS Program port set to COM8. The second tab (Hardware) has GPS hardware port set to (None) and baudrate set to 57600. The third tab (Access) is checked to manage GPS automatically.

Are there any other files I need? I really want to enable the GPS.

I flashed this using Windows 7 Ultimate build 6.1.7084.0.winmain_win7rc.090414-1900 and it went perfect.

You should not need to set anything in the external gps (at least I never did). In the phone settings, change GPS to location on, in the programs, most you can let windows manage, but some may need you to set it to com8/57600.

I had to set "location on" in phone options and then choose COM8/57600 in Google Maps, to get GPS to work correctly. Letting Windows manage wouldn't work for me.....

I reflashed my Omnia a few days ago, have been playing around with it for a few days now. There are some things I like, and some that I don't.

Irritating changes/"features" are:

New simplified settings menu.

"All settings" button seems to be difficult to select. I've only found a small spot in the top left corner of that enormous box that will actually select this option.

Phone often will slow down, and that "progress wheel" will flash and spin in sequences of three. This item is always on top, so it gets in the way and is very irritating.

Awesome features:

THE GPS WORKS!

THE GPS WORKS!

THE GPS WORKS! WOOOOHOOOO! :excl:

All in all, well worth it.

btw... has anyone gotten the following to work with the new ROM?

Resco Contact Manager

Today2 plugin

SPB shell

I flashed the other day, love it, but no weather bug... Ssays Can not make XML Dom or something like that. I have seen others with that, but never a solution yet.

GPS works for me, locks on even in the house if I zoom in close in google maps.

Phone works good fresh after flash, but if I add SPB pocket plus or Mobile shell.... it starts to lock up a lot. Even with nothing added it freezes at times. Overall seems a lot faster, but I miss mobile shell. Wonder if this is due to one of those programs... I downloaded them fresh from the site. Also, hope this works with the new SPB mobile shell 3 (I'm gonna have that, looks awesome!!)

By the way, Microsoft Myphone works great as a backup of contacts (with id photos), texts, etc. I like it a lot.

Also had a few issues with opera and skyfire locking up more than I had ever noticed before??

Not everyone has had luck with GPS. I will say most have, but don't think you are alone if you can't get it to work. Weatherbug stopped working for me today after I did a hard reset, but I am using another widget that Adrynalyne found and posted on another forum. It works just as good. Link:

Am I the only one experiencing the blinking / flashing progress wheel?

It blinks on and off every few minutes, even if there are no noticeable applications running.

This is by far the most irritating thing I've experienced with this ROM.

Does anyone know how to simply DISABLE the progress wheel?

I think I saw it happen once or twice out of the blue, but I assumed I had an incoming text or something. Maybe it's one of the new widgets that you have, maybe it's refreshing every couple of hours or something? Like the weather one?

so my phone has been flashed for a couple days now. everything works fine except for one very annoying thing. the "Add Word" function seems to be broken. every time i try to add a new word, while typing up a text message/email, the input box comes up for a split second and then disappears. can't seem to find a way to fix this. anyone else getting this problem?

We've heard the "rumors" of a May 11th release of the Official Verizon ROM.

Could this be one of the reasons?

windowsmobile65-mix09.jpg

Windows Mobile 6.5 slated for May 11th

Microsoft has identified May 11th as the official release date for Windows Mobile 6.5, according to a corporate blog. The date coincides with the opening of Microsoft's TechEd 2009 conference, where developers and IT specialists will be given a demonstration of the OS accompanied by a list of planned changes. TechEd visitors will also have the option of attending separate sessions on v6.5 topics, such as touch and gesture commands.

An updated Windows Mobile may be critical to the software's persistence. Though currently widespread amongst smartphones, the v6.1 OS is threatened by a growing wave of platforms more friendly to touch commands, such as the Apple iPhone and the Palm Pre. Windows Mobile 6.5 has been designed to be easier to use on touch displays, for instance through the accommodation of large icons on the Home screen. Phones preloaded with the OS are not expected until the fall.

Mine won't even let me specify how many words to add in the settings so even though the box is checked, it is "off". I have no word suggestions. :excl:

Ok, so this might provide a little help to those of us who've had no success with GPS after flashing, who've had the activity wheel spin at random times, have had the phone not wake up from sleep mode, who've had the phone drain battery and overheat like nobody's business and also never fully charge even leaving it overnight.....

Last night, I was fed up with how the phone was acting so I decided to do a hard reset. It reset with the new firmware as it should but nothing changed, at least with the GPS. Since I figured I was a the most basic state, I decided to re-flash the phone. No harm, right? I ran through the process again and got everything re-installed (GoogleMaps, Live Search, Pandora - Which I think I got lucky with...). I went upstairs, started up google maps and placed it against my window. Within a few seconds, I had 4 satellites. Lattitude worked, Live Search worked......

The best part is it charged fully, doesn't have the spinning activity wheel (although that started a few days after the previous flash) and seems to be waking up from sleep much better.

I can't guarantee this solution is perfect but if you're having issues, this might be a positive step. Also, when I flashed the phone this time, it was significantly faster. It took maybe 5-10 minutes total last time to flash. This time it took about 2-3 minutes. I used the same software as I had before (didn't download a new copy or anything).

I'll post later as I test out the GPS usability and as I use the phone a lot today while outside. But, right now, that second flash seemed to do the trick. It might require a few flashes for some but coming from someone who has had nothing but issues with this phone since the first day I owned it, I can say I'm much happier now.

I seriously doubt it. Companies tend to drag around on new Windows Mobile releases. Though it will be "released" on May 11, I don't expect to start seeing it on phones until late Summer or Fall.

Besides, if Samsung was planning to release a 6.5 firmware update in-sync with the official 6.5 release, then these unofficial leaks would have been running a beta version of 6.5.

I do think that an official 6.5 Omnia firmware is a real possibility, but I think we would be lucky if we got it before the end of the year.

Icrew, I was thinking of doing a reflash just for the hell of it, to see if it fixes the GPS problems Im having. I have also noticed my phone getting really hot, but I cant remember if it did it before the flash or not. It might have, it might not have, I cant remember for sure. Did you put your phone on Active Sync mode, or Mass Storage mode?

The blinking/spinning/flashing progress wheel relates to the weather bug. You can actually drag the wheel over to the widget bar and the weather bug widget icon will show up. This started happening to me a few days after the flash process. Basically the weather bug is malfunctioning. if you don't want to see the progress wheel, you can move it over to the widget bar and you wont see it.

if anyone can figure out how to fix it, please let everyone know.

Bwonish, did you go into the weather widget settings, and change it so that it only updates manually, instead of every 6 hours or whatever? If that doesnt work, go into the widget settings and just delete the weather widget.

P.S. My GPS is completely bipolar. Today I was riding around in my neighborhood, but on a different route than what I take during the week to work, and it started working within minutes and kept access to 4 to 6 satellites the whole time. I guess mine isn't broken after all, maybe its just the areas Ive been trying it in dont get good coverage?

FIX for Add Word:

well sorry not really a fix but more of a workaround. I generally use T9 but once inawhile when I have to add a new word just change the keyboard to the full keyboard and make sure that it's on the "xt9" setting and not the "abc". After you type in the new word you want to add, just choose the word to the far left and it automatically adds that word into the dictionary so when you use T9 again the option appears for that new word.

Great Job - I had never changed or modified the OS in a phone. I did it a while ago and so far, it works great.

I was able to lock 5 satellites. Just what I found...

1. After restarting you phone and going through the basic settings...

2. Install google maps

3. Change GPS location to ON

4. Restart (soft reset) phone

5. Under GPS Settings leave 'Managed by Windows'

6. Start GPS

ENJOY!

Thanx for all the hard work... will be donating to the creator of the ROM.

Thanks again... the reason why I bought this phone was because of GPS - 5 months later I get to use it!
