Guest jamesLJ Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 GpsViewer.exe 22k in size, runs at about 80k in memory so it is fairly light. This just displays what sats are available and the signal strength of them and speed if you are moving. just to update for all those wo dont like reading through the thread, as of right now, the only way to get a quicker lock with gps is to get a program like this, or gps today and keeping the gps warm and then using your gps program...I can lock in about 15-25 seconds when using gps today then switching to google maps.....also those concerned with battery life, I have used 20% in 6 hours and I use my phone quite a bit, so GPStoday as far as I can see right now dosent have a BIG impact on battery life.
Guest Peter Brauer Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 GOT IT WORKING <5 second fix, indoors, from cold start. So I have been following all of this for months, and made some efforts before but once again this shows the value of the "group mind." Taking into account all of the different approaches and things that need to be done, I messed around a bit and am now able to get a full COLD lock in sub 10 second times, usually around 5 seconds. This is without BAF Toggle, GPS Today, or anything else. Basically I went with the approach that I had probably horked my phone so much with different things, I decided to start from scratch trying one set of mods, and found the path that works. Here is what I did, someone PLEASE try to replicate and let me know if you can repeat my results. 1. Reflashed my phone to the "Leaked ROM," i910WM6.1REV10.CC20.VZW.img (to get to as clean an image as possible, with full CSC, etc.) 2. As soon as the set up screen loaded I then flashed again, this time to WoZZer's FlashOS 6.5 Lite.02.bin 3. On reboot of the phone, as soon as I got an ActiveSync Connection immediately via CERegEditor enable the External GPS control panel for Connections HKLM\Contol Panel\GPS Settings -->deleted Redirect Key, added Group --> DWORD value 2 4. Enabled Location services via Phone Settings, GPS-> Location on 5. Via QPST made the mods there for leaving the two options unchecked from DMK679 6. Installed Beeline GPS (my GPS monitoring tool of choice) 7. Soft Reset the device Booted it up, fired up Google Maps, and had my lock in less than 5 seconds!! Please someone please try to reproduce this!

Guest Adrynalyne Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 How did you go into QPST, for mine I can't go into diag mode or running dmrouter or any dialer code. Which QPST settings? Because none of the other things are the reason aGPS would be working. I've already shown that the setting in advanced config is only for HTC phones.

Guest dmk679 Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 Reading helps :D And I really wanna know how enabling the agps setting that is for HTC helps the Omnia? Missed that part...Peter can you confirm your definition of cold lock, esp that it is not just a soft reset. To my knowledge, the HTC reg settings do nothing for the Omnia...to confirm this hypothesis I tried them about a month ago and they made no difference. With my current setup I cold locked in 40s this morning (clock out of date by 10hrs).

Guest John_F Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Hi, I have attached a copy of DMRouter - you should be able to place it in your \windows folder and execute it with /DIAG option. I did it and loaded QPST - following http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?p...=VerizonAGPSFix I ran into a problem on Step 6 - there are no two USB ports that you can add. I only saw 1 COM - Serial port that I could add. I am not sure what Peter mentioned here: "5. Via QPST made the mods there for leaving the two options unchecked from DMK679" I wish he had posted a more detailed explanation. Thanks, - JohnDmRouter.zip

Thanks, - John Hey there - which carrier are you using, bell, telus or verizon (or someone else)? You should not have to run dmrouter to get the verizon i910 to be recognized by qpst and make edits. Other phones require dmrouter, but from my experiences this is not needed. Make sure you set the correct USB mode on the phone, I think it is called through USB as modem (dont have phone in front of me right now). When you connect via USB, qpst should allow you to add the port that the phone is connected. The statement "5. via qpst made the mods there for leaving the two options unchecked from DMK679" is in a reference to one of my previous posted in which I left two boxes unchecked in the GPSONE tab within qpst. If you need more help in getting connected to qpst, please post additional information. Regards.
Guest eufouria Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I'm running iGO 8 on my i910 and it takes embarrasingly long to get a signal lock, will I be able to run GPSToday with Titanium still enabled? Any i910 users have any experience with an aGPS fix?

Any i910 users have any experience with an aGPS fix? With my current setup it takes anywhere from 30s-60s for a cold lock with google maps. I had not used my GPS in weeks and I cold locked in 30s the other day. I will post my setup once I am able to retrieve settings from qpst. I am running Wozzers WM6.5 rom v5.

Same here - running Wozzers WM6.5 rom with M2D. Yes, QPST does in fact see my phone. I think I just need a walk through for this.
Guest dmk679 Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Yeah I was able to do most of that. My settings for GPS one are a bit different so I will have to match yours. I also made those registry changes. Okay so you do use GPS_XTRA. I was about to ask about it. I have the version which pops up a console for editing options but they never stick - it always goes back disabled when I turn it on again. So okay - how do you verify is aGPS is actually working? Is there a definite test you can do? no - I dont use gps_xtra. I downloaded the xtra.bin manually and put it where it should be but it did not make a difference. I dont know if aGPS is working or not...I dont think it is because cold locks should be under 10s if aGPS was working. I do think the settings help obtain a quicker lock though.
Guest eufouria Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 I started using the full screen verison of GPSToday with great results, I get a lock in any program in under a minute now, I'll need a couple more days of average usage to determine the programs effects on battery life. I currently have it updated its position every 30 minutes.
Guest John_F Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 I think leaving on a gps program is the best we can do as far as I can see. Any other way requires too much work and still takes time to find the satelites. I am going to leave GPS off from my phone (it works and I can search btw) b/c its too much of a battery drain and I am not going to use it often enough to warrant so much work. I want to see what the VZ Navigator is capable of doing (not cause I want it or am willing to pay for it) b/c I bet it still experiences the same problem.
Guest yojoe600 Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 actually VZ nav has no problem when used with a non flashed Omnia
Guest Omega Ra Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 yeah I had VZnav on my glyde before getting the Omnia and it worked fine and connected instantly. But I like IGO better and don't want to pay $10 more a month.

I locked onto a signal in 40s. Do you get better results using GPSToday that you need to have running constantly? I dont use GPS enough to use a program that runs all the time.

I have it set to find a lock every 30 minutes, does anyone know of a program that doesnt utilize the today screen (BAF toggle) but still allows you to toggle the gps on and off? Im currently in Europe and it seems my comm manager shuts off GPS with the phone radio and its a waste of battery to have the radio looking for a signal all day.

There is no way to have GPS with out the radio on.
Guest dmk679 Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 GPS is part of the radio. There is no way to have GPS with out the radio on. I posted this a few pages ago: In cdma workshop under the NAM tab, you can set the mode as GPS only - this allows the GPS to work while the phone is off (flight mode). If we can isolate how this mode is achieved, we should be able to create an app to enable gps with the phone off. This topic is a bit off-scope for enabling aGPS, but thought folks would be interested that this option does exist right now.

Im currently in Europe and it seems my comm manager shuts off GPS with the phone radio and its a waste of battery to have the radio looking for a signal all day. Well I don't know if this is a solution for you but it worked for me.... Since I am using to WoZZer 6.5 rom and a like using the default windows 6.5 Titanium PlugIn, I just installed a application called "Second Today" that allows me to have the BAF GPS Toggle on a virtual 2nd today screne that only shows when I press a button on unit and this way I can have plugin running and recieving gps lock data without looking at it and still have my main page as I want it. Now hopefully someone can come up with a way to have BAF GPS Toggle default to on state on restart. And for the record running this way I get lock usually in few seconds when I need it because BAF GPS Toggle inituates connection for me in background and I still keep my main home page without looking at stupid plugin.
