Guest lambi1982 Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 WOW...I'm impressed with the thought and organizational tactics you guys have come up with....i'd pay for those skills. sarcasm or compliment? :D The main goal of the site is not to be like the other forums, any forum can post link to roms and other files. The forum section is to centralize ROM information all in one place. as far as the ROM downloads, this will be a menu system broken into i900 and i910 within those will be roms in categories and within that the download link. that's it.
Guest Nomad76 Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 sarcasm or compliment? :D A compliment...definitely a compliment.
Guest bpivk Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 (edited) i expect a clean site with not so many junk posts or can be asked in general sections. u will need some mods for the better organization of the forum etc. implement diff sections for roms, themes, programs, games, utilities, QA, general, sales, porn etc etc. :D I have checked your site and i agree with sector's comment (quoted above). The site has some unnecessary comments already (look under i900 section). You should just make some kind or repository for roms so the cookers can upload there instead of rapidshare/mediafire and implement some kind of browsing system to find the roms that people are loking for. Eg.: What kind of phone do you have? What OS are you looking for? And the final answers would give you the rom/s you're looking for. Cookers would have to fill out some kind of form before posting so that people could get a result from the browsing system. Forum is just like the one here so that will be useless once the admins here make a seperate section for i910 and some subsections so you're basicaly doing the same thing that already exists and it will become just as cluttered over time. I 100% agree with this post from Emre. Because he has the same idea. http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=&sho...t&p=1005173 Edited May 2, 2009 by bpivk
Guest Emre SUMENGEN Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 I'm having difficulty in one thing... Will this be a "repository" or just another forum site? Both would be useful, of course, and I don't want to be mean, but IMHO what the community needs is a "repository". That can be backed up by a forum, of course... Anyway, just my way of thinking.
Guest amahfouz Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 yep , i think u need a repository with a forum supporting it, rather then another forum and with a repository. maybe a blog format could work, each cooker has his own blog under omniaroms and the rest of us mortals post comments on those blogs for bug reports and all that another way of doing this would be using a source code repo (we dont actually have to have the source code upped) like svn for instance, that'll give us better bug reporting, tracking, assigning and all that stuff

Guest CobraMods Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 yea from the looks of things you have already lost a handle on posters there bud, the riff raff is gonna make it just another place for people to go run their mouths if ya dont tighten things up a bit there
Guest thetwiztidfreak Posted May 2, 2009 Report Posted May 2, 2009 I think this would be a great idea for all the omnia roms floating around. I remember when Halo custom edition came out there were a couple sites i would go to for homemade maps and they were great. creators would post pics and descriptions as well as download links. Made things really organized and easy to find what i was looking for. I know i will definetly be joining your site.

Guest ZtF Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 (edited) So... for each rom there has to be ( (M) = mandatory, (NM) = non-mandatory ): - (M) Device (eg. i900, i910) - (M) Description + HOW-TOs - (M) Standardized version number - (NM) Based upon (eg. DXIA5) - (M) Release/Revision date - (M) OS & version (eg. Windows Mobile 6.5, Windows Mobile 6.1) - 1-N User interfaces (selectable, possible to add new) - 0-N Added applications (selectable, possible to add new) - 0-N Removed applications (selectable, possible to add new) - 1-N Screnshots - Q&A section - Bug reporting (may be within the Q&A section) - Optional sw (linked to cab repository) Cab repository For each cab (which will be uploaded by the chef or downloaded from a specific location to the system) there has to be: - (M) Version n. - (M) Date - (M) Description - (NM) For specific ROM - 1-N Tags (which would tell us what section it belongs to; selectable, possible to add new) I don't think there has to be something like SVN (that's an overkill), however some versioning system might be usable (in time). There really doesn't have to be a bug tracking system like Bugzilla or Mantis... too complex IMO. It doesn't seem too hard to write a sw like this (maybe including an app for WinMo which would let the user download the CABs from the repository and install them). What I would use is PHP+Zend Framework (and PostgreSQL or MySQL as DB engine), jQuery, Adminizio Lite for the web part and .NET CF for the client app... Too bad I won't have the time to do it in next 2 months :D Edited May 3, 2009 by ZtF

Guest lambi1982 Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 I would like to ask that If anyone has ideas for OmniaRom.com to PM me instead of filling these forums with page layouts and Ideas. comments are welcome. the rom page will be up sometime tomorrow starting with i910s i900s have many versions of roms and I would like to find the most popular. I would also like to note that I will be hosting the Most recent/current Roms. if there are 10 versions of a similar rom only the newest will be posted. This site is to be an effortless way of retreiving roms. Version systems and Winmo apps are not my goal at this time, please check back sometime tomorrow for the new face of OmniaRom.com. THANK YOU

I think GetGecko can be integrated, as soon as it's finished :D It'd be the next-gen App-Store for WM (which MS seem to fail in doing)
Guest lambi1982 Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Omniarom i910 Repo is Online i900 section coming soon
Guest thescope Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Fantastic Idea!! Please, 1 small request, as an Omnia I900L user can you make a sub-forum for the I900L just as there is one for I910? it also needs specific Phone parts and ROMs for who wants to keep there 3G. and since this phone has only started to get sold in its 3G form this will only get more and more people involved. Thanks!

Guest John Branthoover Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 I wanted to mention that I have purchased OmniaRom.com and going to build the site in the next few days. I am hoping this site will be dedicated to Omnia roms and be a central location for roms to be uploaded/downloaded. A one stop shop for cooked and official roms. My idea is to allow users the ability to share their roms and also make it easy to find a rom that suit your needs. This site will also give cookers the ability to upload their own roms and make changes as need be, one place to find updated roms without digging through forums. Server info: 150GB of storage space 1500GB monthly bandwidth Linux Based I am open to any ideas to how roms should be listed and the look of the site. Hope this site can be useful Hello, I have been trying to register at your new site, OmniaRom.com with no success. I keep getting an error. Also, there is not an email address that I can get help from if I am not registered. This is a real problem. HELP! Thank you for your time......
