So what actually throughput are you getting?

That would be very interesting for all devices, not just here on the Omnia forum!

My X7510 can only acheive a sustained 300KB (Kilobytes!) per second- this is tested using the WLAN connection to transfer a file from my media server which connects via Ethernet to the router. Not very inspiring!

Well i can try downloading a torrent trough my Omnia and i can post you the results if you want.

did a similar thing with my router in G-Only mode with a 700MB movie using Opera.

topped at 555kb/s, but wasn't consistent at all, full signal strength.

Mostly jumped between 250 and 450 kb/s, most often in the 3-400 range.

Its a cell phone, i wouldn't give it the possibilty of topping out the conn. speed, or even topping 1mb/s really.

Thx, but that may be a little inconsistent as it depends on web speeds. It would be better if possible to do a local file transfer across the network using Resco File explorer which gives a transfer speed readout.

No big deal whatever- just idle curiosity! Testing the X7510 at my office with a BT Voyager router (G only) gives 20% better throughput than my much newer Netgear router at home!

I am not disagreeing with you, but just to note that an earlier post said g was weaker than b. :D

Very confusing for someone as I who knows little about b vs g.

I wish someone had the equipment to verify if changing reg value from 4 to 8 and back changes b to g and back. Also to verify which gives greater range, b or g. And which gives greater speed.

Instead, we are now just relying on contradictory anecdotal stories. Bummer.

Ron...

We don't need to do tests to verify those... I mean, it's verified that 802.11G gives better throughput and bandwidth wrt. 802.11B... 802.11A has the same 54Mbps as G, but have a longer range (and lesser chance of interference because of the existence of more channels.)

Unless the hardware don't work as it is intended, these are the facts. (for isolated environments of course, external interference can change everything when it's about wireless).

By the way, try disabling Wireless Power Management in Start -> Settings -> System -> Power. That can change the way your wireless radio behave.

G IS ENABLED... no need for ANY changes.

How do I know this?

1. At work we FORCE G MODE only and it has always worked 100% .

At home I DO NOT fore G mode and it runs at the same speed so it must be on G evan if there is B avilable.

2. TEST your WIFI speed using:

http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1

Post the results so we can compare

im not instaling this cause i think its a whole bunch of stupid... it might work on the phone the app was originally created for but this isnt going to do anything to the omnia... if you can prove me wrong then great but im a firm believer that you cant tweak something thats not there.

It will never work since we have a different WiFi Driver/hardware... It's like adding drivers for a DVD drive when u have a BlueRay.. pointless...

If you go in to the Registry you will see that the folder dose not evan exist...
