Guest giliav Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Hi, My Omnia runs an ancient Phone part rom: i900DXHK2 I want to update it to the latest (DXID1) but it keeps failing. I tried using the rom updater (XP) and using USDL on Vista - all fails and the old phone roms stays the same. Other parts update just fine (PDA). Is there a way to "brute force" burn that rom? maybe using an SD or something? Thanks!!!
Guest lonely2k5 Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 more info would be helpfull does update procedure runs ok till the end and then in winmo it says phone hk2 or is the problem when the procedure says switching to phone - if here it's modem driver problem have you tried simple mode to update or grandprix? did u use the cooked rom with or without phone part? some roms are without phone part...
Guest giliav Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Thanks! I want to update the phone.bin only so I tried GrandPrix. It downloads the rom to the 900i then says "jump fails" and ends. When I reset and check the info I see it's still in the old version :-( Also - the famous ! sign is showing on reboot. My rom is a custom Shoka 6.1 one. Any idea/tips?
Guest =MZ= Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Install Samsung CDMA Driver, take GP 1.6.4, check "Phone Bootloader Update" and flash DXID1 phone standalone. Tested on russian i900 many times with various FW versions (WinXP SP3 clean).

Does your phone part works (can you answer or make calls)?
Guest giliav Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Does your phone part works (can you answer or make calls)? Yep. Works fine. But as the phone rom is old it's crappy (i.e. - can't conference people and some other annoyances).
Guest =MZ= Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Try my advice, posted above: clean XP SP3 with Samsung CDMA driver + ActiveSync 4.5 + GP 1.6.4 Update only phone. Be carefully - if you flash PDA part in phone, your only further way will be Service Center, or JTAG.
Guest nasirahmed Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 me too....... same problem here. PDA part updated fine, but phone part can't update. It says jump fails.
Guest giliav Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Install Samsung CDMA Driver, take GP 1.6.4, check "Phone Bootloader Update" and flash DXID1 phone standalone. Tested on russian i900 many times with various FW versions (WinXP SP3 clean). I can only find GP 1.5.2 for XP (1.6.4 seems to be Vista only). I tried and got vm creation errors. Any other ideas?
Guest ronaldb3 Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 (edited) Hi, My Omnia runs an ancient Phone part rom: i900DXHK2 I want to update it to the latest (DXID1) but it keeps failing. Is there a way to "brute force" burn that rom? maybe using an SD or something? Thanks!!! Hi giliav, Did you know that not all of the cooked rom versions have the phone part? This is because the phone part does not change often and the flash runs quicker for us without the phone part in rom every time. The cooks only have the phone part in their roms not too often. Sector's rom L2 does have the phone part DXID1. Versions M3 and the new N1 do not. So just do a normal flash (not Grandprix) with L2 and you will see the phone part download (also the file is about 20m bigger). Then flash N1 and phone part DXID1 from L2 will remain on your Omnia (or just stay with L2 if you like). Hope this was clear. Ron... Edited May 16, 2009 by ronaldb3
Guest giliav Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 (edited) Hi Ron, Yeh, I know it's doable. I'm also using executor to extract the phone part yet all runs other then the phone part. I really like my Omnia but wish to enjoy a better Radio rom. I found this on another forum: 1) Download the official samsung omnia updater for Singapore. 2) Run the i900_EXEcutor.exe to separate the LOADER, PDA, CSC, and PHONE binaries. 3) Run the USDL_GrandPrix_v1.6.4_VISTA.EXE and populate the LOADER, PDA, CSC, and PHONE boxes with the binaries from step 2. 4) Click Detect and turn on the phone. 5) Downloading begin..... This is where i got my 1st problem. The PHONE update failed. 6) Disconnect the cable and reset the phone. 7) Check the PDA version and it's now updated. But PHONE version still i900DXHH3. Turn off the phone. 9) Get back to the original samsung omnia updater exe file and run it. 10) Activate the Window Mobile Device Center and Turn On "Allow USB Connections" and "Allow data connections on device when connected to PC" 11) Tick the 2 check boxes, turn on your and click verify device. 12) A prompt with Incorrect Software Version will still appear. Click Ok. 13) It will download something (not sure what it is but may the boot loader). 14) it will prompt you to manually turn on your phone. I tried turning on and off, but nothing happened. 15) Exit the omnia updater and turn off the phone. 16) Run again the omnia updater and instead of the 2 check boxes we now have 3. The 1st 1 say for emergeny update only. leave that one unticked but tick the other 2. 17) Click on Verify Device and turn on your phone. 18) Downloading will start... from 1st to 6th files. Just wait until completed. 19) All done. Did someone try that? How do I know which original rom updater to use? Edited May 16, 2009 by giliav

Hi giliav, 19 steps seems like a lot more work and more complicated than just doing a normal flashing twice. (using XP) Ron...
Guest giliav Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 GP 1.6.4 for XP Thanks a lot MZ! that solved it!! It's GP 1.9.2 (!) for XP and it burned it on first run. I'm on DXID1 now! Yipee! Thanks again!

Guest Jeroi Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 Hey giliav, so what are the steps to just update the phone.bin? I have the new DXID1 phone.bin and just want to flash that one. I hope this solves my charging problem because my phone starts up with the little phone !!!! . I have read somewhere here on Modaco how to do it but that was a long time ago. It seems like there are so many more posts than before. Thanks Jeroi
Guest giliav Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 Hi Jeroi, My name is Gilad btw :-) I simply got on a XP SP3 machine and installed the CDMA drivers for xp (on the threads here somewhere). Also installed Activesync and connected my Omnia, allowing it to take it's course and install all drivers. Then disabled USB connections inside activesync. Ran the GrandPrix attached here. Choose phone and browse to phone.bin (make double sure it's the phone ROM otherwise you'll brick it!). Un-checked the "Format my storage" options - I don't want that.... Click "detect", connect your omnia and soft reset it. Once detected click "download" and wait. Will take a while - don't give up! It ends with your Omnia resetting itself.
Guest Jeroi Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) Thanks Gilad, going to try tonight. I got the phone.bin from one of the posts by Chokka. <_< Thanks, Joeri ps. I've been waiting and looks like nothing is happening?? Now I have this in lower left hand corner; OnDeviceChange:DBT_DEVTYP_DEVICEINTERFACE (1) Device name:5&b68bcae&0&4 PDA Device 1 detected. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PDA 1 starts downloading... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PHONE will be written. Don't plug it out until the label becomes blue!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Start downloading phone image. PHONE finished! Than the top right says: PHONE1: Download complete launch!!! and phone did not reboot itself!!! I checked on the phone version and it says DXID1 so I assume all is good. Thanks for the help Gilad One more thing. battery still won't charge with a wall charger. I get the red batt icon and the led remains white?? Edited May 17, 2009 by Jeroi
Guest Jeroi Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 Thanks Gilad, It worked!! I still have my charging problem. Red batt!! It used to work with one of Tarils old roms
