Decisions, Decisions - Omnia or Omnia 2

i wish i could trade places with you. i wouldve easily waited for the omnia ii.

Theres reason why the omnia is low, in terms of technology, its on its last legs. Hell, you can barely even see the screen in sunlight. Omnia ii just blows it out of the water. Even something simple like having a 3.5 mm headphone jack is worth the wait. Patience is a virtue!

Now I do have 2 more questions and then this thread can finally be at rest. I am a rather decent graphic artist and I would like to know what is a good (and free, don't forget free) WinMo Theme/Icon Designer program that I could start my itching fingers to design? And secondly, after searching through some of the stickies, what would be the best roms to load to enhance overall performance?

Thanks for help guys, I plan to stick around for awhile.

a good interface thing to use your graphics skills with would be wisbar advance desktop 2 (wad2)... you can read about it in my blog about it just go to the "wad" tag and it will bring up all teh posts where i talk about wad

as for the roms your going to have to wait till the phone comes out and people start developing with it since it will be a whole new setup and programing

think its over looked a bit in this forum, but the Omnia I resolution really sucks and prevents it from being the super phone in my book. Not only is web browsing not as good as it should be, everything looks blury to say a touch pro. Get the Omnia II, its a huge upgrade.

Well I finally made my decision. I went to Verizon today to see about the 99$ deal for the Omnia but of course, they would not go down from the 199$ and I walked out deciding to wait for the Omnia 2 possibly. That is until I got home to find an email concerning my order from newegg. Apparently there was a discrepancy with my address and once I fixed that, the order went through completely.

So while I appreciate everyones input on either waiting or buying now, I decided that for the moment, 50$ for an Omnia outweighed waiting a few months for 200+ Omnia 2. Gives me time anyway for the next year to play with the phone and make it purr.

good choice, i think. get to know WM and omnia, then upgrade when omnia 2 finally comes out.

-i tried almost all themes. point ui is good, throttlelauncher was good, mobile shell was good.

-then i flashed my phone with leaked cc20 rom. things started improving (speed, touch sens., ui in general)

-now on adrynalyn's 6.5 rom (over at ppcgeeks-check them out. 3 people making custom roms for i910)

-i couldn't imagine going back to previous themes now that i am using WM6.5.

-you can also use M2D (HTC's ui) on omnia

were you able to get insurance with the phone thru newegg? just in case something happens when you flash phone. i didn't have any problems, but if you don't follow everything to a T, it could. insurance helps.

good luck, chris

I am glad that newegg came through for you...

I am not sure about Theme/Icon desigener programs, but the ones mentioned in previous posts are various user UI which can be skinned. Mobile Shell and WAD are not free.

In terms of ROMs - dont rush it. Play with your phone for sometime, see what you like and what you dont like. Most cooked ROMs do not have everything that is included in original ROM. One big issue with WM6.5 ROMs is that mouse pointer does not work on those. So if you will like this feature on your Omnia then WM6.5 will not work for you.

Considering you got your Omnia for only $50 and can probably put it on your existing contract it makes sense to use it until the Omnia II comes out.

http://omnia.samsungmobile.com/ (Oh sweet jesus my shorts just shrunk)

WAD2 is probably the most customizable interface out there...but it's not free ( ;) ) $14.95 last I checked.

As for ROMS, this week I'm using Wozzer's naked.

Is re-flashing/flashing is covered under insurance/warrantys? I wouldn't think it would be. I figured it would be a "at your own risk" type of thing. Now that you mention the insurance, I checked my bill and no, I didn't get it. I had it checked but must have unchecked it when I redid the order. Can I get the same type of insurance through Verizon directly? To be honest, as long as I know its do-able and I can re-flash it to factory one way or another, I rarely have issues aside from registry woes but thats pretty much anything microsoft related. In the past if I had any conflicts on other phones, I just removed and reset.

When I mentioned Theme creator, I meant more along the lines of a Skinning/Graphics Developer toolset for winmo. Wasn't sure if you had to re-write individual .cab files and the like or use one program like S40 Theme Studio for Nokias.

I think I would have finally waited for the Omnia 2 if I hadn't been shown that 50$ newegg price but that was just too good to pass up and worse comes to worse I cancel everything within the 30 day window and re-sign up for the Omnia 2. I will just have to be extremely careful at first.

As for the non-free shells, if I decide to stick with the Omnia and I like the customization and the ability to do my own graphics with them, then I wouldn't mind paying as long as they are stable and not memory hogs.

flashing will void your insurance even if you are flashing a rom they made... any sort of stuff like that needs to be done by them... so if you flash and have to take the phone back for what ever reason then make sure you flash back befor you take it in...

as for getting insurance, you can call up verizon and get it added on.. since you just started your contract and its in the 30 day return thing.
