Yeah, that was the first thing I tried...but it won't boot to the point that the update will take. Sucks. Guess it'll be a trip to Verizon tomorrow, unless anyone else can think of some magic to work.

I am indeed bricked. VZ is sending me a new one next week. Crap.

One question...Do we flash this OFFICIAL ROM the same way we flashed the leaked ROM? I see there are different links and instruction. But if I just download one of the mirror links and just do the same steps I did when i flashed the leaked ROM...that should be fine right? I mean I read the instructions and it seemed like doing the flash through the website is a lot slower then doing through UMDL.

I cannot seem to be able to use the official update. I had flashed to Bgills rom (MD2) previosly, and when the official update tries to restart my phone, it does not load the new rom. Instead it just restarts with Bgills rom and works normally. The update software then says I need to restart my phone manually (which I did) and relaunch the update. When I do that, the same thing happens. The bottom line is that after flashing to Bgills rom, it does not appear that I can flash to the new official Verizon rom using their executable upgrade software. Any help/ideas?

Actually, I'm NOT bricked. They couldn't figure it out at the store, but I tried a few things at home and managed to get it going. Now they're still sending a new one and can't recall it....but the old one works for now. Guess I just have a new on on deck. Just as well, I guess.

not sure if it is the same , but i got caught in the circle

phone would reset , power up and then pop up would say to manually reset and restart update

the fix for me was to CLOSE active-sync when the up grader screen says to reset phone

Well after sitting stuck at 60% for an hour and a half while updating to Cf03 emergency mode finally kicked in (although it might be because I forced active sync usb connection to kick in) and it did a reset of my phone and it booted to the standard widget screen.

I think my phone was actually fine at this point, but since the instructions said to reset and run the upgrade again I did... Once again it stuck at 60% for over an hour until I fiddled with active sync again and emergency update kicked in again.

This time though my widget screen has no widgets! I don't even have the option of "samsung widgets" under my today screen items. Is it supposed to be there?

Also google maps locates me in Russia immediately upon booting, but will not get an actual satellite lock.

Guess I need to try again...

Well, I tried not be a complete idiot. And that helped quite a bit. I'd never done any flashing before, and I was arguing with the wife at the same time (mistake). So I followed the directions to the T. BUT I'd never heard of a 7z file. So, I thought that I had to rename it to the .bin. I tried to flash the .pda with that renamed .bin file. Then I got an error and the the Omnia was stuck. I tried to "official" tool, and it wouldn't boot to the point where the update would take. I called tech support and they couldn't help, tried to hard reboot, that didn't help. Then I went to a store, and they couldn't help. So, they're sending me a new one. When I got home, I figured I had nothing to lose since I was getting a new one, so I started taking a look at the problem and did a search for the .7z file, and found that it was a type of .zip. So, then I actually tried to flash it with the real .bin...and it booted enough to start taking it.

Moral of the story is to make sure your wife is out of the house before doing any sort of detail work. Unless it's on said wife.

Why so many are bricking their phones with the latest CF03 Rom from Verizon? It does not sound like a good Rom if it's bricking phones left and right. I think I will stick with my 6.5 v 5 of Wozzer's.. had no issues in the last 3 months and love the GPS funtions.. but would like an answer on my first line in this post though. Have a good one guys...

well so far through this post there have been what i counted is 3 people including myself that have bricked there phone and for me it was a stupid error on my part by not having the battery charged while flashing (dont make this error) othere then that a lot of people have been successful. also with this being the official rom verizon will replace with no problems (i am getting my replacement on tuesday)

I flashed everything successfully and everything is working fine. I even flashed Bgills new COOKED ROM with the CF03 release. I seem to be having problems getting a lock...well its more like a hit or miss. After I flashed Bgills ROM, I turn my GPS on with LOCATION ON...then restart. I established a connection first before I used GOOGLE MAPS. The first time was great. I got a lock with like 5 satellites and it located my location to about 900 feet away. I have my GPS setting to MANAGE BY WINDOW. I turned the phone off and took the battery out and put it back it in and restarted. Open up GOOGLE MAP and try to get a lock..it took about a minute. I installed Garmin GPS software. I used that too with the setting set to COMM8. It locked on pretty fast. I woke up this morning to go to work and on the way there I was testing the new aGPS out. Again nothing has been changed...all settings has been kept the same...it took me about 5 minutes to get a lock on the highway with full service. I soft reset the phone and again use GOOGLE MAP...it locked in about a minute. Exit out of the program. Got to work and opened up GOOGLE MAP again and tri8ed to get a lock...and nothing! For about 5 minutes or more no lock. I was sitting outside in the parking lot so I wasnt inside the building. I thought aGPS is suppose to help our GPS to get a lock faster but it seems to be slacking off.

Anyone experiencing the same problem? Any solutions?

Ok, probably a couple lame questions here. What is Vanilla and Manilla 2D? I take it they are just user interfaces for WM phones? What's the difference between them?

Thanks

Well Manila 2D (also M2D, Touch Flo, Touch Flo 2D, TF2D, etc) is a popular windows mobile interface based on HTC's Touch Flo 3D. You can find plenty of info on it here and elsewhere on the web. While it is a bit of a resource hog and battery drain it is very functional and customizable. I've been using it for several months now with various custom roms (6.1 and 6.5).

I'm gonna guess that Vanilla indicates the Plain/Stock/Regular/Ordinary/Factory/Base configuration of Windows mobile.

ok maybe i am retarded, but i read every single post here and i just want to clarify something:

This (official) rom will give me A-GPS, but not GPS, right?. However, people make it sound like A-GPS is better, but isn't GPS more accurate location and A-GPS is just triangulated guesstimate?

agps will get you started on your way.... in google maps and after a min or so the actual gps chip will kick in giving exact position

aGPS = Assisted GPS. When you first open your Nav software, it will use cell towers to triangulate your position until your GPS chip gets a solid lock on the GPS satellites. aGPS does not replace GPS, as it is fairly innaccurate and designed only to give you a rough starting point until your GPS chip locks. Please note that not all GPS software utilizes aGPS, so you may not notice a difference.

Your GPS chip is still unlocked after going to settings-personal-phone-services-GPS-Location On and soft resetting.

ok but in order to even get GPS unlocked, you need to be using some cooked firmware or this newest update, right? As in, my original firmware stock from verizon is not going to let me use anything, correct?

Yep. You'll need at least the Verizon/Samsung upgrade.

So has anyone gotten the update to work on vista x64?

After 1st phone bricked with the super new verizon update - i got my replacement phone today. Figuring the first brick must have been due to a low battery problem i made sure this time it was 100%. Turned off my AVG antivirus, and firewall and proceeded to install again. Followed the process of disconnecting USB cable first, remove battery , - replaced battery, hit start and connected usb. Rom appeared to start downloading fine and progress shown on screen was good - then BRICK!!!! I have no idea why, the screen just goes blank and now the phone will not restart! Now i have to send back 2 phones before i can get my next! I will be staying well away from this until more people can validate successful installs.

The first time I tried it it sat at 34% for a half hour. I exited the update tool and relaunched it which put it in emergency update mode. It basically attempted to install the new update again, which worked like a charm the second time around. I'm about to install Google Maps and see if GPS works.

Used an XP 32bit machine for the entire procedure.
